I've always wondered what happens if a kick hits the scoreboard/speakers at the stadiums that have that wacky old-school feature like BC, CGY, EDM.
I guess by rule hitting any alien object equals a dead ball?
Not sure we've seen that in the last decade. I vaguely remember a kick possibly hitting a guy wire holding up a scoreboard/speaker in the last 5 years? But I don't recall if they blew it dead or just let it play out. Harder to determine if it ricochets off a wire, I guess. If anyone remembers which game that was, chime in.
For posterity, this occurred at 2Q2:31 in the WPG@BC 8/18/24 game.
"Which is pretty odd"
;D ;D ;D :D :D
Not the CFL but I've seen it happen in the NFL a few times. Same rule applied dead ball and re kick.
The official's announcement was gold
"The ball hit the scoreboard.................which is pretty odd"
Didn't we have one this year, not a scoreboard but pretty sure Sheahan had a kick that that hit something and the ball was affected.
It happens in the NFL a little more. Certainly a few times a year across all games. Some of the newer indoor stadiums especially.

Sheahan's kicks don't go anywhere near high enough to hit anything.
He took a page out of Wes McCauley's book on that call.

McMahon stadium NO LONGER has that overhead speaker. It was removed a few years ago. The 4 towers that held it up are still present though.
Yeah what if E.T. in a UFO/UAT hovers above the stadium and a punt hits that? What is the call? Do they have that listed in the rule book for hitting UFO's?! :D ;) Maybe E.T. thinks the football is a gift and takes it home! :D
Very rare, but have seen hockey pucks hit the overheard scoreboard too. Would be ACE if you could perfect a shot that deflected off the scoreboard to score a goal!! :) NOW THAT WOULD BE AMAZING SKILL! :D I think it's a dead puck in hockey too.

It would be treated the same as a drone incursion into stadium air space, a high security risk. The game would be suspended, teams sent to the locker rooms and depending on the risk the stadium could be evacuated.
The game would only continue if the risk is eliminated.

Like that Gretzky-Jordan commercial where they're calling it in off all kinds of objects. :D

Somehow I doubt a UFO would be eliminated by stadium security! :) They would just suffer the BEAM ME UP SCOTTY transporter! ;)

Hmm, that rings a bell. It is possible a Sheahan kick hit a spidercam wire, those can be very low to the ground, especially on a kick where the cam is directly behind the kicker.
If Sheahan does some really non-traditional, unexpected trajectory, the cam people may be caught off guard.

Crazy. You'd think that they would plan above-center-field objects to be higher than the highest possible punt? After all, right over C is where, on average, the peak of punts will be.

Giant scoreboards can only be so high so that fans can still see them.
