Ticats without star corner Jamal Peters for rematch with Montreal
By 3Down Staff -August 9, 2024

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will be down a lockdown corner for Saturday's rematch with the Montreal Alouettes.

Jamal Peters (thigh) has been placed on the one-game injured list and will not be able to avenge his team's Week 9 loss. The 27-year-old defensive back was Hamilton's prized offseason acquisition after three outstanding seasons with the rival Toronto Argonauts and became the CFL's highest-paid corner in the process. Through seven games this season, he has 13 defensive tackles, three special teams tackles, and two interceptions.

Kordell Rodgers will step in at boundary cornerback in his Ticat debut. The five-foot-eleven, 175-pound native of Lufkin, Texas dressed for 12 games with the Montreal Alouettes last year, making nine starts at boundary cornerback and two starts at field-side cornerback. He recorded 37 defensive tackles and two interceptions.

On the opposite side of the ball, veteran left tackle Joel Figueroa will start for the first time this season after nursing a shoulder injury for the first eight games. The 35-year-old played just five games in 2023 after joining the Ticats in free agency as the league's highest-priced blindside protector. Rookie Brendan Bordner will be a healthy scratch after helping down the fort to begin the year.

Rounding out the roster moves is the addition of rookie Canadian defensive end Luke Brubacher. Veteran Benoit Marion will be a healthy scratch.

QB Davis Alexander lands second start for Alouettes with Cody Fajardo still limited
By 3Down Staff -August 9, 2024

The Montreal Alouettes are rolling with Davis Alexander under centre for another week.

The 25-year-old was a full participant in practice this week despite a minor hip injury and will make his second career start on Saturday against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. In six quarters of action since taking the reins at halftime in Week 8, he has completed 34-of-45 passes for 440 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.

Face of the franchise Cody Fajardo was taken off the six-game injured list two weeks ago but remains limited in practice with a hamstring issue. He will miss his third straight contest this week.

The Alouettes will endure a change to their quarterback depth chart after backup Caleb Evans sustained a season-ending knee injury last week. Veteran Dominique Davis, who was signed on Tuesday, will draw into the lineup to handle short-yardage duties, while rookie James Morgan earned promotion to the primary backup job behind Alexander.

The QB shuffle is the only change to Montreal's game-day roster from last week's 33-16 victory over Hamilton.

Ticats off to a brutal start in this game. First two possessions, two turnovers. Now BLM has been pulled and the Ticat gong show continues.

Hard to believe the Ticats would be blaming BLM for their struggles. I think they just switched up QBs to try to get a spark. I expect to see BLM back in this one.

Do we have a QB controversy brewing in Montreal? Alexander looking like he might be better than Fajardo.

Milanovich when interviewed at the start of the half sounded like he had seen enough of BLM and blamed him for the INTs. I think he's done with him.

Barker and Dunigan wouldn't defend BLM either saying BLM's stats were all ABD (After Beat Down).

Is it time for BLM to hang them up or does he still have plenty in the tank?

Hamilton hanging around in this game. Good long drive there for another FG but it gives the D a rest and establishes some momentum. Anything is possible in an eleven point game.

He hasn't had anything in his tank for 2 years now. I can't believe Hamilton went with him as their starter, they should have went after brown.

TD Als!

It's a three score game now. I don't see Hamilton managing that against a very good Als defense.

Powell has played well since replacing BLM. They are moving the ball although the deficit may be too large. BLM may not play again for this team.

Ten point game again and a good response to the Als TD.

Hanging in there.

I have found the non Bomber games entertaining this season, but this one, and the last couple this week have been pretty boring.

Overall, lots of last second finishes, good defences, and some exciting games.

Can't say I will miss Bo if he's done. That int... threw it right to the defender.  No obstruction of view, no duress. Nothing to excuse it.

As a player I will forever dislike him  For his lack of grace with the "we showed them who they are" remark.

Thought he was good as a TSN panelist.

So I get home from dinner and what's on the PVR?  Golf.  golf.  golf.  Just like last year, we're treated to TSN screwing up the schedules for golf.

Ya so it looks like it was golf for the whole 1st half.  So I'm waiting until midnight to start watching the replay from the beginning.

Disappointed, TSN!

Yah I like Powell, he seems smart and reminds me of a young Collaros the way he throws on the roll out, he has plenty of time to develop into a good young starter.  Would love to have him as #2 but the only way to get him here might be to trade the Ti-Cats Zach!

2 Years? More like 4+ years! He got his throwing shoulder badly injured in 2019 and has been a shadow of himself since then. Bombers beat Calgary in the semi-final game in 2019 IN CALGARY which is almost unheard of in any era! :) Bo Diddley is done outside of a backup role. He had his run though so props to him.

I've been saying since pre-season Hamilton is worst team in the league. They only need to play Edmonton again to confirm it. They beat Elks in their first matchup only a few weeks ago, but the changeover from Chris Jones had not fully ran through the Elks team by then and the starting QB was still MBT in that game.

They should have made this move weeks ago so that BLM could have been released. Past veteran cut date so they're stuck with his salary. Unless another team is looking to trade for him? I can't imagine that but it was strange to pull him after 2 series.

This is the best year that BLM's had in several years. He's leading the league in passing yards and passing TD's.  He's not the problem in Hammy this year.

That's my thoughts as well. I ve never been a big fan of his, but heck, he isn't the problem on their offense. Their offense just sucks. First series told everything...receiver goes way offside and kills the play then BLM checks down to their fullback who promptly fumbles the ball away getting tackled—and it was put a bone jarring hit either.then there was the snap over Powell s head on his first play for a safety and then there was the one play where the ticat player literally ran into his teammate carrying the ball and fell down. They are the laughing stock of the league and the Elks will destroy them next week to prove that.

Agree, Milanovich has good player personnel at his disposal but for years now the Ti-Cats have underperformed.  It's almost as if they expect to lose every game and there's no reason they should, they play with a flaccid attitude which emanates from the top.

BLM has missed about 35 games in the last 5 years after only missing 3 in the 1st 8 years of his career.

He'll be turning 35 before next season. He's not the future and it's probably the TiCats miss the playoffs again this season. While it's not all his fault, the organization needs to move forward in order to create encouragement for the team.

Powell may not be the future either but they need to make that determination now.

I'm surprised how much better Powell looked compared to last season.  He could yet dev into a good starter.  Maybe another 2-3 seasons?

Ya, MTL was playing soft/prevent when he first came in, but once they started getting closer in score he was still decent when MTL started amping things up.

He was showing great patience and much better read security to avoid the MTL INT machine.
