Title: Argos at Stampeders GDT 6pm central
Post by: GOLDMEMBER on August 04, 2024, 12:52:00 AM
To say this is an important game for the Blue Bombers is an understatement.

Hopefully the Argos show up.

The Argos are good against the run and the Stamps are without their RB, Mills, so that may play in the Argos favour. Can Maier outduel Dukes? Maybe although the Argo secondary can be tough. I do believe the Argos are better than the Stamps. Really hoping for back-to-back Argo victories to put the Stamps at 6 losses and move the Bombers alone into third place.

We are in a bye this week so all we can do at this point is watch the scoreboard and hope for help.

1 BC 5 3
2 Saskatchewan 5 3
3 Calgary 3 4
4 Winnipeg 3 6
5 Edmonton 1 7

Wynton McManis has been placed on the 6-game injured list. Obviously he can be taken off if need be but it's still a daunting task to replace him.

Argos
In:
7 DL Folarin Orimolade
34 DB Kerfalla Exume

Out:
48 LB Wynton McManis - to 6 game
90 DE Thiadric Hansen - to 6 game

Toronto appears to have some problems in the injury front. McMannis was a rock for them. Hansen back on, the injury list. Tough game.

Battle of a couple of nicked up teams.  Maybe the Bombers can stay healthy now and keep winning.

No running back against no MLB. Stamps have a better passing attack but Argos defence is better IMO. Not sure how this works out but hoping for an Argo win.

Maier can't  get 200 yards passing. Who are calgarys receivers?  All of a sudden Bombers have an All Star receiving core.

Just a comment: this  last game plan was similar to how. The team played in 19.  Dink and dunk, great running game and then hit the odd mid range or kill shot. Coupled with a crazy defense.  Bighill had a great game.  This new guy Jones looks like an All Star. Even Willie looked hungry and accountable.  What a great game.

Nice to see it coming together.  Huge improvement by Johnson.  Does Lucky on short passes in space really scare the crap out of. The defenses? Well it looked like they could not cover him with LBs.

Lucky was worth the wait, Bailey doesn't stand much of a chance of displacing him now, can feel that 2019 vibe starting to build.

Jake yards passing. Third year as starter, this season might be his last chance in Calvary. Kind of up and down, but darn good when he can get out of his own way.

Due for a good game, so stumps should win.

I thought Dukes would be better, but so far, he's not catching on to things very well.

If I was a young qb, I think I would be hoping to get Maas as my head coach.

Argos and Stamps play again next week. If the Argos can manage to win both games (Stamps lose both games) the Stamps and Bombers will have identical records and the Bombers will get the nod for third place because they have the edge on point differential. Alone in a third place playoff spot after the horrible start they had would be amazing.

the short passing game is becoming more and more prevalent in the game, and it gets boring .
Defences are relying on pressure so much that its all the offences can do.
We relied on it heavily against BC as well. Which we didnt do in the past but we've had to adapt

Sheehan has a weak leg.
He has a weird skill set. He can kick end over end balls that are hard to catch. He is also a very directional kicker. You're right, he doesn't boom them, but he also doesn't outkick the coverage. I'm willing to continue to be patient with him.

Bombers really needed the Stamps to lose. It looked like we were in a fight for 3rd place with them. Now the room for error has shrunk again.  Can't lose to the Lions or Riders. The tide has turned them into the target fight for a play off spot IMO.

WEST is wide open for the taking. Riders could crash in second half of season again. Lions nothing special it seems really. Very hot and cold. Bombers have few mulligans left though. Argos also may be cross over bait potentially too.

Those gimme games against Edmonton may not be major gimme's anymore too. Cats are toast like I predicted in pre-season. Bo playing better, but can't throw a long ball ala Matt Nichols. He does not have a good running game or o-line to pull off the Matt Nichols offence unfortunately.

Meh.

We're within 2 points of first at this point. I don't even see this as a fight for 3rd anymore. I don't trust any of the 3 teams above us to be consistent over the last half of the season.

Meanwhile our schedule gets a little easier while we have all our bye weeks. With as poor of a start as we've had, we're actually set up pretty nicely.

Your math is off. We're 4 points out of 1st and we've played 1 more game than all 3 teams above us. We won the season series against the Stamps. That was our easiest route to the play offs.

It's possible to win one or both of the season series against the Lions and Riders. 3 of our next 4 games are against them before we get into the easy part of the schedule ( in theory ).

So sure. It's possible finish anywhere from 1st to 5th. All we have to do is start winning consistently.  That's just the reality at the moment. A Stamps loss would have been beneficial for the Bombers. 3 wins versus 4 wins for them but with a game in hand. Didn't work out that way. We're still in 4th at the moment.

It's starts with the next game against the Lions in Vancouver after the bye.

This is correct. We're two games out of first not two points. Calgary still remains our easiest route to the playoffs. Full marks to Calgary for coming back in the fourth quarter the way they did against the Argos but the Argo D now looks suspect and they may not be a very good team even if Kelly is playing in place of Dukes.

I believe the way our defense is playing we stand an excellent chance of performing well in these games.

Right. We can't afford many more losses if we want a playoff berth. Simple as that. Winning cures all ills.

Sure does and I'd be surprised to see VA back by then. BC's next game is against the Elks who performed really well against the Riders and are going to be a handful for BC to deal with.

2 wins, I meant to say. And I forgot to mention that we have the season series with the Stamps all wrapped up. Not to mention that Adams may still be out when we face the Lions for the tie breaker.

I feel pretty good about where we're at; Again, given our start.

Two wins but it has to be against the right teams. Beating the Lions gives us the season series but not 1st place. Beating the Lions and then the Riders twice might give us 1st or 2nd.  Two games on the road.

3Q2:00 Sopik on Logan DPI that was challenged:

That was 100% not DPI.  Not even close.  Almost as ridiculous as the phantom PIs against us the other week.  Literally nothing there.

I can see how the on-field refs call it, because Logan sold it to the max with the embellishment.  But command has to rectify these mistakes!!

Once again, this proves my thread about refs not overturning called DPIs.  Any other season and the refs would overturn all of these.  This year: let them eat cake.

Quote from: J5V on August 05, 2024, 12:14:10 AMBegelton is a very good receiver. He'd be a great Bomber.

Begelton would make an AMAZING Bomber.  He's 100% WFC locker room kind of guy, and with a good QB he is one of the top-7 Rs for sure.  He interviews well, is soft-spoken, and oozes integrity and heart.  And he never gives up even when everyone else on his team has.  And he takes the most wicked beatings and almost always jumps back up.

Too bad he's a CGYer for life... he'll never leave.  And they won't let him because they literally have no one else (until Henry returns).
