No chatter on this yet? I'm making my way through the Sat May 25 games.
OTT@HAM:
Dru looked baaaad. If I'm an OTT fan I'm worrying about now that my team made a bad QB decision. Some of the other OTT QBs looked better, and led them to quite a few TDs, and the win.
Even scarier is HAM was really trying hard to get a win for their home fans. They kept BLM in there basically the whole first half. That's shocking. BLM stunk for 2 series but then dialed it in and was looking very snappy. No hint of noodle arm. In fact, before he dialed in he was overthrowing / throwing high.
However, his problem is he seems to take a few throws to dial in, and then late in the season he starts to get a weaker arm. We'll see if he has another season in him or not.
WR White was looking very good, but that's to be expected, and it's a bit unfair and cheeseball putting your #1 star players against rookies in a PS.
Surprised Leggs is still "the guy", but he was looking very good, and it will be ironic if he turns into the next Hara<insert 10 more letters here>.
Not many fans in the stands in HAM. A bit disappointing.
SSK backup QBs looked pretty good @EDM. Will give Mace a tough decision as to who gets to be #2. I would keep both vets.
EDM still having big problems with penalties, turnovers, and foot-shooting. Exciting finish for a PS game, though! I was cheering for that new PK at the end...
Some of the new EDM receivers looked pretty good. I would cut Flowers if I were them!

Dru Brown didn't look that good in training camp last year I thought but he really showed us the "real" Dru Brown when he played in the regular season. Consistent, accurate and smart. Easier to do that here because he had been in the system with the same players for a number of years. I would think he's still getting used to a new team.
Leggs only misses crucial extra points and last minute field goals. Would love to know his percentage on those alone.
I guess we will see if Dru was the result of a good OC and Oline, or if he has real talent.
I would have had no issues with him developing here under those conditions and being the next Collaros, sometimes a change of scenery does wonder, sometimes it is disaster.
We will see if his talent adapts to a new system, or if Condell can adapt to his talent.

Jones probably cut Flowers before he got back to the bench and deservedly so! I was impressed with both Shea Patterson for the Riders and Doege for the Elks, the latter looked a bit like Dru Brown with good composure and sharp passing. Two young QB's that may have a CFL future.

The answer is it's both. Dru Brown is a pretty talented QB but he needs a system that's right for him and talented pieces around him. Virtually every QB does too, but Brown isn't going to be a guy who can do it on his own very often and he's definitely not a scramble/sand lot guy. He needs to make plays from the pocket and that takes the team around him.
SSK Lauther was looking horrific, continuing the woes from last season, but even worse.
BC Prukop looked awful, still can't throw. I don't know why they bother trying. Didn't he have like 4 seasons in BC in the first place for them to determine he can't be a #2? Just use him as SY, that's what he's good at.
CGY Meier is looking much better. Really dialed in. Could this finally be his year? It's his last chance, methinks.

Prukop cut today by Lions.
It was the first pre-season game on a brand new team for Brown. Would not read too much into it. Did his mechanics look OK though? Bunch of rookie/green receivers in the first pre-season game too. Probably same for running backs and offensive lineman. Even Bombers stunk it up a bit in Sask in their first pre-season game. Streve's had better mechanics at least with short to medium passes I noticed. Not sure if he unleashed a long one as only caught part of the game on CFL+. That was always his Achilles heel before and regular accuracy. Let Collaros do the bombs, Streves can do the wild cat and surprise 3rd down passes. Could be a lethal QB combo this year for the Bombers IF they both stay healthy. Streves can do mop up time until no chance of other team coming back then throw in the 3rd development qb for some snaps. O'Shea has to think beyond this season too for the next Collaros unless he and Walters and other assistants TRULY think Streves could be that guy. Streves still has something to prove this year either to continue with the Bombers or another CFL team next year as think he only signed for one year.
Realizing this is training camp and not the regular season, I thought Streveler has done well both in passing and running. He seems to have polished his game and could be effective if Collaros ever went down.

Strev. looked like the same guy to me, just realized how vulnerable he is to injury playing like he does and predict he won't likely stay healthy through the season. He's pushing 30 now, so he'd better come to the realization he's not invincible or made of granite.

He looked very similar to 2019 Strev. His reads & passing might be a bit better, though. Mechanics looked similar, but not identical -- that weird arm motion of his. Reads are the important thing in the CFL, not letting the D's fool you like they did Barriere. If he could have massively improved one thing in the NFL, it's reads. He looked very good in the PS1 game.
And he still has the oomph to run over LBers and DBs. I love it!! He doesn't have to do it all the time, just enough to keep them thinking about it.

He's not? ;) ;) ;D ;D 8)
I heard he's made of Strevemantium.

Is that like Vibranium?! :D Marvel Avengers movie goers will understand that reference! :)
Hate to say it, but Cody & MTL were looking pretty darn good. Winning the GC always gives morale and confidence a huge boost. It will be imperative we take them down a notch in week 1 by whipping their butts.
Mike Miller speaks! Can't recall him ever being interviewed before.

Picked up my tickets last Saturday and had a few minutes to watch the afternoon practice.
In particular, I was watching the QB's run a dual pass drill with short and deep passes running together.
Stev's deep balls were bang on...better than I remember during Strev1.0.
I really expect Strev2.0 to excel with the Bomber offence in the years to come.
He was good before and the time down south has made him better.

Malik Henry out for the season.

Sucks for him especially after the torn Achilles. Guessing it's an ACL.

He may have been when breaking those ST records.
Hey, when do these things air? Is it possible to get a reminder here on the forum 24 hours before air time?

They're on You Tube under "The Huddle", like, subscribe and ring the bell and you'll receive notification. According to Ed Tait, they plan to air an episode every week.
Dru Brown looking better tonight, he ll be ok in Ottawa.
Montreal has a pretty decent kicker returner, be interesting to see if he sticks to their final roster and if he doesn't I d pick him up.
I see NO stats for Janarion Grant for Argos today. Maybe did not dress as so late to camp.
To the conversation about trying to win your home PS game: the final stats are in.
Home teams went 6-3 in the pre-season, or .666
Clearly teams try to, and succeed at winning at home for their fans. They leave the starters in longer. It's pretty obvious.
The only teams that lost were:
- HAM (even with BLM starting a full half they seem to be just as hopeless as 2023)
- EDM (need I say more)
and
...
- WPG
And out of all the lose-at-home games, we got whooped the worst (21 point differential). EDM lost by a hair (1 pt), HAM lost by 9.
All of the top-4 favorites to win the 2024 GC won theirs... except WPG.
While "in MOS we trust", this must not please WM too much... it's bad from a hype & sales perspective. I went into the Bomber Store post-game in PS2 and the place was deeeeeeaaaaaad compared to any other game. Ya, it was just a PS with "announced" 24k attendance, maybe half actually there, but I expected some more people to be in the store! Losing by 21 isn't great for merch sales.
I don't care about merch sales.
I care about a new OL that has never played together. Brady running behind this new OL for the first time.
A defensive secondary without any practice calling out coverages to each other, a new look linebacker core. These guys talk on the field in order to handoff players as receivers run through each other's zones, etc. but they have zero practice communicating with one another in a game.
My fear is that we've jumped the shark a bit and are putting too much faith in our roster's experience, when we have an influx of inexperience this season.

The only OL that hasn't "played together" is Lofton. Dobson in for Gray is not new. Dobson has been with the team and filling in at OG for 2 years. Many people may suggest that Dobson is an upgrade.
Lofton, at RG, has a lot of experience, has worked with Costello before, and would not be starting if he wasn't ready to go.

So, the Riders are loser on and off the field?
Who'd have ever thought that with Mosaic II in a salary cap league, and being the only game in town, that a team could lose money?
Shocking.
Looks like we will be contributing to the Riders in "revenue sharing"...

It goes to show you that running a CFL franchise is really hard. Sometimes you're up, sometimes you're down and sometimes you're the Edmonton Elks. If the Riders can lose money, everyone can.

Haha, it's looking like the revenue sharing is this:
HAVES:
WPG
HAVENOTS:
everyone else
When even the Greenies are sticking their hands in our pockets, you know things aren't great for the league.
Is WFC allowed to keep any of its profit anymore?? :D :D :D
If any Greenie gives me any grief @LDC or BB this year, I'll be sure to remind them they are now a "have not" team with a lame fairweather fanbase! ;D ;D ;D :o 8)
SSK is going to have to be a lot nicer to us visiting Blue fans for their home games! Without our support that big loss would be even bigger last year!
The fans they have left should be on socials (and here!) begging us to come to their stadium! Haha
