Blue Bombers add defensive lineman to roster
WINNIPEG, MB., April 15, 2024 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American defensive lineman Chauncey Rivers.
Rivers (6-2, 259; Mississippi State, born: June 12, 1997, in Stone Mountain, GA) most recently played with the Houston Roughnecks in the XFL in 2023, recording 16 tackles, five tackles for a loss and 2.5 quarterback sacks. He signed with the D.C. Defenders of the United Football League in February and was traded to the Birmingham Stallions before being released in late March.
Rivers began his pro career with the Baltimore Ravens, signing with the club as an undrafted free agent in 2020. He appeared in one game with the Ravens, spending the rest of the season on the practice roster. The Green Bay Packers acquired Rivers off waivers in 2021 and he appeared in four games and making two tackles.
Rivers began his collegiate career at the University of Georgia in 2015 but was released for disciplinary reasons. The then suited up for East Mississippi Community College, where he was part of the Last Chance U documentary series on Netflix. He finished his collegiate career at Mississippi State, and made 67 tackles, 15 tackles for a loss, 7.5 sacks, three pass knockdowns and one forced fumble in 25 games. He was named Second Team All-SEC by the Associated Press in 2019 and was a 2020 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Participant.
Seems a little short for DE and a little light for DT...
More competition, though, gotta love it. UFL only had jobs for half the spring league players, and had a new crop of college grads to choose from as well. But any pro snaps is better than none.
Checking further I think he has played as a LB.

That's what Kongbo played at when he went south, right? OLB...

Hes the same height as Haba and 9 lbs heavier, which tends to be the case when they come to the cfl.
like you say good competition
I remember this guy from the excellent reality show Last Chance U. I knew the name was familiar. Wikipedia has him as Blue Bomber linebacker.

Exactly. You have to be some talent to succeed with that size... Are you suggesting he has Jeffcoat or Lemon skills?
On the outside, you want more height and wingspan. Does he have freakishly long arms? Talent can overcome that, but its better to have the basic frane.
In the middle you need some mass to push hoggies around. Again, technique and speed can offset that, does he have that inside rush technique and speed?
I'm all for him being the next Jeffcoat or Lemon, just the norm for those spots puts him as a "tweener" from what I can see.

Do we still have Cole Adamson under contract?

He was released last year. Not currently under contract.
