https://3downnation.com/2023/11/15/toronto-argonauts-qb-chad-kelly-reveals-he-suffered-concussions-during-east-final/
If this is true, I take back what I said about poor sportsmanship.....I'm still not a fan of his though I do respect his abilities as a QB
He didn't say he'd been medically diagnosed with a concussion. He's saying he thinks it's one. He also is describing shellshock, or getting beaten up in the biggest game of your life so far (GC 109 doesn't count because he didn't start and had no pressure except for a few plays, and he succeeded which is easier on your person than failing).
I think TOR may owe it to the league to confirm an actual medical diagnosis because if we believe Kelly then it makes the CFL (and the Argos) look really bad that they let a concussed player continue. And then point out which play it happened on, as there weren't many whacks to his head.
I guess he could have had a minor one that doesn't manifest very clearly or quickly. But he makes it sound like a full on KO'd wonky wobbly Jon-Cornish-final-season concussion. It certainly wasn't that.
Maybe he's not lying, but we're going to need more of the story.
Kind of surprising considering he wasn't looked at by staff during the game.
This development needs more information but this incident reflects poorly on the Argonauts and the league.
Reminds me of when Kevin Glenn's Twitter account was "hacked" after his "account" said all that bad stuff about Ottawa after the expansion draft 9 years ago
Strange for this to not come out until today. ???

This feels like damage control by the Argos for a poor performance in the east final. IF (big if) they knew he was concussed and still continued to trot him out for the rest of the game it is a very bad look for the Argos organization. Its not like they didn't win games with Dukes at the helm.

I don't buy it either. Irresponsible to continue playing if that was believed.
the only time i saw a possible blow to the head was on the second short yardage stop, when he was tossed to the crowd his head does seem to hit the turf, but he showed no effects then or right after.
the only other indicator would have been on the sidelines with coaches or anyone interacting with him, that he didn't seem right, and further examination might be warranted.
You cant blame the spotters, numerous times throughout a game players get contact with the head on the turf or on blocks etc. The player has to take some responsibility to say something. You know that every player is gonna want to stay in but they need to be educated on this.
I feel bad slandering a guy who is claiming he was concussed, but man does this seem like a convenient excuse.
He probably got concussion looking at the film.
If he was concussed, did it affect his play? Unless it was on the first drive, his play was consistent throughout the game... from the pass directly to Daquoy in the red zone, through the rest of the game, he was m'eh at best...
So, unless he was concussed early, and that's why he threw to Daquoy, I don't see it as much of an excuse... and as others have said, if he thought he was concussed and didn't say anything, that's both selfish and self destructive, and in no way something a $600k /year leader is supposed to do. There is hard money being thrown at him...

Yah, that pass shocked me, Dequoy was standing right beside the receiver when he released the ball, it made absolutely no sense to attempt that pass.

It was a lousy pass but give Dequoy full marks for spying that very well. Kelly never even noticed him: https://youtu.be/wreEAXnnTSM?si=oCBWS8wHCXYkwjBR&t=40

He took one back against our guy too...He is very good at football.
So Kelly acted like a jackass and performed poorly because he was concussed?
Hmm. Like others said - awfully convenient, factually questionable and no confirmation.
How about the part where he would return to the Argos if he was not in the NFL. I don?t see his recent history helping him given his track record, but we will see. Lots of NFL QBs are going down.
This is total BS. Chadwick, be a man and just suck it up after stinking the joint out...you were embarrassed and didn't want to talk to anyone after the game so you scooted to the dressing room to hide like a coward. Then to top it off, you throw your team under the bus claiming you were concussed. Brutal. And if you were concussed, and this was legit, why not pull yourself from the game if you knew your head wasn't right?? Because it didn't happen. This is total fabricated BS.

I had the same thoughts that IF he was indeed concussed to the extent he claims.....then you owe it to your teammates to pull yourself out of the game. I mean, he threw 4 picks and two went back for sixes. It really casts a dark shadow over his team for coming out with this after the fact.....hmmmm?
Want another one ? "Come on down to Winnipeg"

Exactly.
"Excuses are like ***holes: Everybody's got one and they all stink". :)
The medical staff of the Argo's are probably a little upset at his excuse. It sort of implies that they weren't doing their job.
Ultimately though, I think it's BS .. he's just making excuses because he played SO BAD !!

Oh, absolutely. Medical and training staff as well as Dinwiddie and the team as a whole will be criticized for leaving poor Chadwick in the game.
The fact is, this didn't happen as there are so many protocols and eyes watching for concussions, players get yanked routinely for a suspected concussion. Remember Zack got yanked in a late drive to win the game....where were these guys for poor Chad??? They were right there, but he didn't sustain a concussion, rather he sucked the big one in the big game and rather than own what he did, he fabricated a massive excuse. Brutal. Wonder what the team and locker room think of their MOP!!!
And even if you did sustain a concussion and the yarn is true, real men don't make excuses and cry in their beer after the fact, they just move on.

Like!
In my 60 years I've never ever heard a QB come out after a game and make this claim after a very poor showing. His comments about the NFL and possibly returning to Toronto if he doesn't make it down there were also ill-timed. This is why I just don't like the guy despite his obvious talents as a QB. For that matter I never much liked BLM either as he dissed our Bombers on more than one occasion, however I dreaded when we played him....well up to around the end of the 2019 season, after signing Zach who has lead us to the Big Dance 4 consecutive times since his signing.

Exactly. Reminds me a lot of BLM (I've held a grudge against him ever since his comments about the Bombers "we're showing them who they really are!" at half time was one of them), both are (to quote the Fat Albert show) - like school in summer: no class.
Didn't see or hear his comments after losing, judging by what I'm reading here it was pretty pathetic.
So, are the Argos stuck with Chad, or with MBT returning to the CFL, would they consider cutting Chad?
Chad just doesn't seem to be "the guy".

Sounds like Chad plans to try out the nfl, based on what I'm reading here.
But - he did win a whole lot this year. As much as I don't like his attitude (again from what I'm reading here), it's not like he is terrible (other than the eastern final)

They just signed him to a 3-year deal.

Hyperbole, he lost one game he should have won, I think that indicates nothing.

He does at every opportunity. Yet, here he is.
Rourke who I believe has unlimited potential, is a lot younger than Kelly....and the NFL in general is a hard nut to crack for QBs leaving the CFL to play there. Even Doug Flutie who is considered the best player EVER to play in the CFL didn't have an easy time convincing the NFL that he could play there and be successful. Chad has one season as a starter and yes he won the MOP award and then had a nightmare of a final game which he now claims was caused by a concussion? I'm guessing at his age he figures he needs to pursue his ambitions now and if he fails...well then the Argos would be his safety net. It's having your cake and eating it however it puts the Argos in a bind either way.....because they signed him for 3 seasons as. the highest paid player in the CFL to be "their guy". Disappointing

Yup. How will this ?concussion? play in his NFL pursuits? History of recent concussion or dumb move to excuse total collapse and poor behaviour?
Unless MBT signs elsewhere before the NFL window, I bet he is still on Pinballs radar, whether or not Kelly leaves. He might actually be rooting for Kelly to get an NFL offer...

Can Kelly on NFL PR earn more than the top paid CFL QB he'll be next year?? Bird in the hand, and all that... do we really believe Kelly is
starting NFL caliber? Methinks not.

Not even close. Kelly is NOT a starter in the nfl. Not now, anyway. Could he be? Well, Sean Salisbury was after leaving the cfl, so anything is possible. But to just step away from a season as the MOP in the cfl and after crapping the bed in the eastern final - no one is signing him as their starter for 2024.

No, but like we've seen with Rourke, you hope to get on an active roster. I don't know if Kelly leaves unless he has an inkling there's a real opportunity for more than a PR spot, but you see all the injuries in the NFL this year and see all the really crappy back-ups play, and you think, "I'm better than that". I see CFL players talk about this all the time.
Kelly definitely not good for NFL. Rourke could stick there with a different team. Jags a bad choice. He'd be at least #2 with Jets, vikings, Bucs & some others.
