Title: Darnel Sankey
Post by: Austin85 on August 26, 2023, 05:29:55 AM
Hopefully the bombers can sign him, that would help down the stretch! He is a tackle beast .

Can?t see it happening for a bunch of reasons but primarily this would create a riff in the clubhouse as this defense is Biggies and we don?t need any possible distractions or votes of non confidence by signing him. Biggie may have lost. Step but he?s our leader and if he is one thing it is durable. Just not going to happen, not MOS s style at all.

Chris Jones should sign him, he needs all the help he can get righting that ship

Ya.  The only way I see us getting Sankey is if Biggie is hurt (knock wood).  We're happy with our NAT depth at MLB.  I don't see how Sankey could pick up our entire system that quickly anyhow.

As for future replacement?  I'm not sure I like him there either.  I'm not sure he's the best fit.  I'd love to see Singleton come back and us pull a Biggie and snipe him.  Not many other MLBs I'm interested in.  I'd have to sleep on it.

Good player, not the right time imo.

Singleton?
The guy has been a starting LB in the NFL for a while!

Ya, but like most ex-CFLers, don't we expect him back at some point?  Isn't that the M.O. for like 85% of Canadian NFLers?

LB's aren't a problem for the Lions. They aren't going to bench Hladek.

Oh my god, Singleton has made a boat load of money playing in the big leagues, he ain?t ever ever coming back to the cfl, ever.

Biggie's future replacement is already in town, Wilson starts at MLB and Clements slides into WIL.  If O'Shea says no to  that option, time to bring JSK back home!

Is Wilson big enough to be MIKE?  Isn't he like 50 lb lighter than Biggie?  Looks like it.  I don't really doubt he could handle the IQ part.  But he just seems like the wrong body type.  And Wilson isn't young either, and he's been a bit injury prone.

You'd have to sell me on the idea more.  And then we'd have to find the next great ELC WILL.  I'm pretty sure Clements isn't it.

It would sure be cool having a super fast MIKE though!

Bighill and Wilson are. Roughly the same weight, I believe.

Biggie has about 20lb on Wilson.

He signed three-year contract worth $18M with the Broncos back in March, so I'd say so.

Wilson is also 3" taller so different body type. I'd prefer he excel at WIL and a new candidate at MLB be brought in eventually.

Singleton is an NFL player.

But, has said as recently as this week that when he's done in the NFL he wants to finish up his career with Calgary (as long as it's still Dickenson and Hufnagel and the coaches he knows).

Players want to play.  If the NFL window closes, and they still can play, CFL is not a paycheck as much as something to do.  Sure, if they have other life plans, they will have the resources to avoid the pain of football.  But after pro ball, life can be boring.  Jon Ryan, perfect example...

I feel like if we keyboard GM's and coaches look at the bigger picture and that's the second half of the season and playoffs, its going to be teams with the most efficient RB's/run games and front 7's that will dominate and have the best chance at winning the Grey Cup.
That being said, why can't we pick up Sankey to shore up the run defence. Bighill is probably the most versatile MLB in CFL history. he's got extremely great range and could probably be moved to SAM on a run down and then you put Sankey in the middle. Passing Downs you can confuse the hell out of an offence if you flip Bighill and Sankey. Bighill has been known to drop back in coverage almost like a Strong Safety and in that case Sankey can slide into the middle of the field.
If you eliminate any possible run game then the the DC's job gets easier as you can prepare for everything to be a pass. You need to be prepared for a team like the Argos with the ability to dump passes off to Ouelette and Harris.
....then again i haven't really been impressed by Kramdi at SAM but the last few weeks im noticing he is extremely quick to close into the ball carrier.

JSK transitioned from WIL to MLB and now he's one of the CFL's best.  Playing along Solly in BC Bighill was at WIL, in todays game as long as a player has good mobility and a high football IQ, the 2 LB positions are almost interchangeable.  I think the most important assets of a MLB are good communication skills and game knowledge, Gauthier could help with run stopping as needed.  Rather go with Wilson than an old school LB like Sankey who can't cover receivers or drop off into pass coverage.

I think that a 3-4 defence might be quite a fun thing to watch in the CFL, 3 DL would mean rotating Jake, Ricky, the Jeffs and one of Lawson, Bennett and/or eventually Haba means more rest, and having stone cold tacklin assassins like Bighill, Sankey, Wlson and Kramdi creeping up on the line, and sometimes falling back into coverage will have QB's pooping their pants.

We see 3-4 looks all the time in the CFL. Every game, basically.

Arms? Where ya been? Linebackers have to be able to stuff the run , as well as pass cover.  Bomber starters at that position are as good as anybody..

nice pick-up, honestly if any team outta the east has a chance to knock off T.O it's the Als. they know it. Well T.O is heavily favored to win the East and represent in the GC, Mtrl. does have a shot....

They lost Harris and Geno in the off season. I?m sure they have tons of space.

Makes sense.  MTL's LB corps is a weak link.  It's a smart move.  Though I really don't see MTL going anywhere in the post-season vs TOR with Cody at the helm... I guess they have to make their best effort at it.

This. I doubt Lemon was expensive.

It's a real travesty that in 2023 a so-called professional league like the CFL can't disclose salary info about its teams rosters.
