Sheahan with another good year.  Funny how the crowd that was negative on him went silent.  Her served it this year.

These stats are awesome, thanks.

Always love seeing your charts.

Zach and Kelly are nearly identical in points per drive.
My wife is amazing!

Sir Blue and Gold

Sheahan the 6th best punter from our side of centre (which is almost all his kicks on the year save 5).

What a stud. Killing it Jamie-boy!

Winnipeg Blue Bombers individual penalties

I still have a few teams to go but it looks like the dubious distinction of the most penalized player in the CFL goes the Brendan Bordner of the Elks. He was penalized 20 times in 2026 for 139 yards.

Looks like Major has more yards than that in only 10 penalties  :-[

DPI penalties are called at the refs discretion.

Plays per game - 2026 vs. 2025

Although not a stated goal of the 35 second clock, there was an expectation from many (including myself) that the 35 second clock would result in more plays per game.

The average number of plays in regulation time was up by 2.1 plays per game but it wasn't a result of the 35 second clock. An increase of 3.7 plays per game in the final 3 minutes of a half is where we saw the increase. In the 54 minutes of the game before the 3 minute time stamp we actually saw a nominal decrease of 1.6 plays per game.

It appears that the reason for the increase in plays is the result of the hard stop at the 3 minute warnings. Other than that, the 35 second clock merely resulted in the shuffling of the deck.

What the new 35 second achieved, in spades, was a more consistent time between plays. On most 1st & 2nd down plays, teams actually had more time at the line of scrimmage to survey the defence. This may actually be part of the reason for the increased scoring in 2026.

The biggest effect came when substitutions were required, usually on 2nd & 3rd downs. We saw an increase in the number of timeouts being burned to avoid time count penalties or to rethink a decision to kick or gamble.

In 2025, there were 44 time count & delay of game penalties. That number increased to 54 time count & delay of game penalties in 2026 (excludes 2 defensive delay of game penalties charged to Darnell Sankey for moving the ball after it was placed).

Major has said that he'll readily take a DPI instead of giving up a TD.  A lot of these are him doing that when he's beat cold, rather than him panicking.

I'm ok with it.  It also means QBs are targeting him more.

I think he had a stellar rookie year and look forward to seeing him develop.

Ya, so the 35s clock turns out to be kinda a nothingburger.  And since our team seemed to be middle of the pack (or worse) for getting discombobulated because of it, I'd have to say I don't like it.

I also don't like how on some plays the refs are scrambling to place the ball and then holding up the play and backing away with under 10s left on the play clock.  Makes it look way too much like NFL, and surely flusters the players.

And I reaaaaaaaallly hate the 3min pause.  I'd say more than half the time the O is already breaking the huddle and fully expecting to get the play off.  Then the refs whistle it dead.  Lame NFL-like.  And that's a major buzzkill live in-stadium, as the crowd has amped up the noise for a critical play on D and then suddenly it's 1.5 mins of commercials!  Then the bad-guys O gets to have a free 2 min huddle and the crowd isn't nearly as into it post-commercials.  Lame.

If it didn't really have the stated effect, one would think it should be looked at to be abolished or tweaked?  I still think the 35s should be used as a "benchmark", not as a hard limit.  Ref/stick crews can be graded on how well they fit within that 35s, but 20s play clocks are still whistled in.  The biggest stated reason was to stop the MOS-type HCs from taking 60+ secs to think about and sub in players... surely there's another way to limit that?
