5Y to Take Zach Out Isn't Good Enough

He missed 6 entire games during the regular season. He was knocked out of games at least 3 times which probably account for 1 more games cumulatively. Now he's off the roster on IR for the playoff game.

It's regretful but I think his time is done. At best he must take a massive pay cut and become a # 2 QB. This is regardless of whether we have a strong choice for our # 1 QB going forward.

This is a real audition for Brown tomorrow. I wouldn't exactly guarantee him a starting spot in 2027.

Give the guy the complete play book, not a small package and see what he can do. This is his chance to prove Dinwidde wrong.

I can't imagine that he hasn't had that for a significant amount of time. Whether the OC uses the entire playbook is another question.

If they can figure out how to get Brady going early we have a decent chance of winning.

Sir Blue and Gold

Brown has been in the system for years (longer than Collaros) so the issue isn't whether Brown can process it and work through it, it's can we pass protect and run block well enough to call the balanced game we'd like to. And can the defense get off the field without giving up 400 play drives so we have enough chances. Both of those are where the problems start and end, not Brown's understanding of the book.

I wonder if it's the opposite.

If the Argos try to make run stopping the priority, if Dru can throw over the top like he did last week, then we might get something going.

Beating BC's 2nd string D who were tired because they didn't use some of the vets for the whole game because it was a nothing game, is very different than beating Toronto's 1st string D with the Eastern Final or go home on the line.
Plan for the worst. Hope for the best.

Amen! Given the game starts at 10AM here in Calgary I want to be sure I have finished breakfast as not sure I will have much of an appetite around laer on

I understand Zach's injury, a 300lb+ DL landing on you square is going to bruise/break ribs.  Zach had tried to toughen up his core, add some bulk.  Not sure if he was wearing the full flak jacket he used to, or if he had less padding hoping for more mobility.

Not happy to see a team get rewarded that big for an egregious foul, but it worked out in our favour. Sad note, however, to end Zach's career on such a low note.
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

Still remains to be seen.

Every team tries to take our run game out of what we're trying to do. Brady had a great game last time we played them though. Ultimately he's the key to our success.

The run game opens up the passing game and vice versa.

I expect the league to hand Cherry additional punishment for that hit, body slamming was once accepted but not in the last few years.  There's no doubt in my mind it was an intentional attempt to injure as every player in the league is aware Zach will be removed from the game if his head makes contact with the turf.

Ya, those talking about Glass Zach need to chill a little bit and realize this isn't one of Zach's mini-concussion head/neck things.  This is something completely different caused by a bad-faith play.

BC wanted to make sure that if they faced us in the playoffs that they would get the "easier" Dru.  And it would have worked had the refs not stolen the SSK/EDM game for SSK.

Quote from: Sir Blue and Gold on October 30, 2026, 02:07:36 PMHappens most games to a QB. The issue mainly is that Zach can't take a football hit anymore and no hand-wringing over the rules can solve that.

Not a hit like that.  A full-weight pancake by a really fat guy is the type of thing that regularly season- or career-ends QBs.  Lemon on Nichols anyone?

Quote from: Blue In BC on October 30, 2026, 12:22:17 PMBrown came in and immediately completed 3 passes and a TD scored. I don't believe that is a matter of the OC just figuring out the defence all of a sudden.

And loser Salter came out to start the game and threw like 4/4 for a quick TD drive.  Why?  Because the D was geared up for full run-stop.  It does matter what the OC/DC are doing.

Maybe Zach would have hit those.  Maybe not.  We'll never know.  Yes, there's probably at least a little of the fact Dru loves & is good at the mid-range ball.  Zach's more of the home-run and short game.

Other thread has the fine info:

BC defensive lineman Nathan Cherry has been fined for committing unnecessary roughness on Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros.

a) Because they didn't say "max fine" that means it's probably like only $1-$2k.

b) Should have been a suspension.

So BC took 5 yards penalty in-game and their backup DT gets a slap on the wrist fine that the team will reimburse him for under the table.  Job well done Cherry!

What a joke.
