Looking to sign in USFL. Technically that doesn't eliminate him from attending a CFL TC but indicates his current plans.

Depending on what we plan to do with Collaros and Brown there is not room for another QB for much beyond another arm in TC.

IF ZC is re-signed, I expect it to be with a low minimum and a substantial bump for games played and milestoanes achieved.  To sign him to a large base contract is just foolish at this point in his career.  Not saying he shouldn't get paid as a starter, but he's going to have to earn it with starts, assuming we keep him at all.

I'm OK with Pavia spending time in another pro system before/if he ever comes to us.  I think a lot depends on the braintrust's evaluation of Elgersma and his development.  If we re-sign Zach I'd be OK with keeping Elgersma on the Reserve roster next year if we feel he needs more time to develop.  If we move away from ZC with Brown as heir apparent, Perkins as #2, Elgersma as SY, we could bring in Pavia as an insurance policy on the reserve roster, assuming that's how we want to use the reserve.

Re-signing Zach again would be daft, whatever their other options are it's past time to move on and begin exploring them for better or for worse, the status quo is a no go. Bring on the future because the solution that worked so well in the past no longer achieves the expected results.

"He's the best QB we have" isn't really an option for O'Shea any longer, this past season was his last chance to show he could still  perform up to expectations and he failed to do so on too many occasions, plus he spent half the season in the sick bay. They're currently fighting to avoid last place in the West, this season wasn't a hiccup in his great career, it's the inevitable end.

As for Elgersma another season on the RR will do him no good, time to progress him to the next level and see if he can adapt to the new responsibilities given to him, whatever they may be.

They need to take a pro-active approach in developing him to see if he has the potential to become a CFL starting QB within the next 2 seasons, if not ignore his Natl. advantage and move on with recruiting new import QB options.

Ya, that's what one would think.  But if Zach wants to play, and Mafia is receptive, then I will promise you right now he'll get paid the same as last contract plus a modest bump.

His punishment for being always hurt and throwing INTs and losing a lot in 2026 will be his bump will be smaller than it otherwise would have been.

I'm not so sure this time around that Mafia is receptive though... We might finally have new ideas.  Maybe.

But let's be honest, if Zach could take hits like every.other.qb and keep playing our season would have been fine.  We'd have 2-4 more wins and be vying for 2nd, not 3rd-5th.  But he can't.  It's a sucky situation.  Either we find a way to make it so he doesn't take hits, or we will repeat 2026 next year.

Elgs isn't doing any sneaks.  I don't know why it comes up once in a while.  Even if Perkins is #2, he's still doing the sneaks.  Like Strev was for us for a ton of games.

Sir Blue and Gold

I highly doubt there's any way Pavia's coming here on the reserve roster. You're going to have to sign that guy and make him the number two at a minimum.

We're best to move away from Collaros next year. There's the Chad Kelly moonshot in the off season but failing that, give me Brown, Elgersma, and Perkins/another short yardage QB. If they can get Pavia to come to Canada (I kinda doubt it) then you could do Brown, Pavia, Elgersma and Pavia can run short yardage. He's small but it's not really technically that difficult. And ya, you lose a bit of the short yardage high end skill you have in Perkins but who cares? If we don't have a bonifide starter you lose the flexibility to specialize to some degree. It's all in on finding the next great QB and you need to prioritize your QB spots accordingly.

Elgs.won't.sneak.  Repeat after me.  He's slow and lumbering and seems to lack any fast twitch.  Even Dru can dodge & escape better than Elgs.

Why on earth in your dream Brown, Pavia, Elgersma scenario not put Elgs on RR (full pay!) and keep Perks as SY?

As for Kelly, I'm more sure than ever he's gonzo to OTT.  Dinwiddie after the last game was seen post-game hitting up Ungerer inspiring him to come to OTT in '27 too.  He uses those post-games to talk to everyone he wants to poach.  Smart guy!!

(Not to mention many here vowed to cancel STs if Mr. Abuser Kelly gets signed in WPG...)

Having a 4th QB on the reserve comes with an SMS cost. Even if Pavia comes north, why are we assuming he'd be a better # 2 QB?

Don't ask me! I've never heard of the guy and he stands as much chance as the 50 other qbs we eyeball every year of ever playing a snap in a meaningful game here.... Which is zero.

But I do love what ifs... So here we are!

And we're currently doing 4 qb... So clearly it's doable. When 3 are on elc, it's not so hard even if we had 5!

It's still not the norm. It also takes away a roster spot from another player that could be activated on game day.

If you want to lose fans, that's the way to do it. Sign the loser. Sure he's a good QB but not a good person.

If Dinwiddie gets fired, he probably stays in Toronto.

Personality aside, we're a balanced offence with Oliveria so he doesn't fit our strategy.

I'd be upset if we signed him but I'd be upset with another tanked season. Which is worse?

Signing him.  Honestly. I do not want that cancer in our locker room, QB room or around our cheerleaders.

Still think Perkins is a better option than Dru.

Perkins and Elgersma are under contract. Dru is not signing a backup deal, and he's shown he's not a starter.

If Pavia can come north for TC, and light it up, I'm all for that option.  Or any of the other QB's on our neg list.

Personally, I'd rather enter the 2027 with Perkins and Elgersma and a few prospects, and/or maybe a solid CFL backup at $150k plus play incentives, no more.  If that is Dru or Zach, so be it.

That's a fair position. I can't remember whether he was convicted of bad behaviour or he settled out of court. Either way, it's not a feel good situation. However it does go somewhat against the innocent until proven guilty. Celebrities often are charged and settle to avoid more bad press and court costs.
