They can whitewash it by having WM be the bearer of the bad tidings.  Kind of like WM did with mandating the Brady retention.

Quote from: Waffler on Today at 11:26:36 AMEven in some alternate reality where Younger is no longer here, MOS would promote someone already here to continue the vision. MOS AGREES with what Younger does. He demoted the best DC he's ever had, Richie Hall, just so he wouldn't lose Younger. They are both Stubler disciples from waaay back.

Hall couldn't do the job on-field, that's why they made the move, plus worrying about Younger being lost to another team.  In hindsight it would have been ideal if another team hired Younger because then they would have had the horrible D all of these years and we would have beat said team every match!  Brady would probably do well against a Younger D.  ;)

I'm sure MOS agreed with the Younger philosophy when he first started.  I did.  Many people did.  A younger (pun!) Hall?  Why not?  In fact, I agreed with the Younger philosophy until I saw that teams that were completely willing to forgo "normal football" to just ground pound were our kryptonite, not once, but 2, 3 times in one season.  And when I turn against some WFC person, you KNOW it's bad, because I'm basically an near-eternal optimist like b4l.  But Rankin destroying us in the 4th with zero adjustment, zero reaction, zero change, was the final straw for me.

But how can MOS defend the Younger system now?  It's 100% clear that the system flaws I listed are insurmountable without blowing up the system.  And if you blow up the system, even assuming Younger can and wants to, why would you have a "damaged goods" DC do it?  It's the perfect time to switch to fresh blood.

In fact, I have little doubt that the star players and other key cogs are talking to Mafia behind the scenes with misgivings about Younger... just like they did to Hogan.  If the decent-but-not great O from '25 was rumbling about Hogan, then you better believe the complete-garbage-most-games D from '26 is rumbling about Younger!  They'll never say admit this, of course, but it MUST be happening.

Willie J and Ceresna and especially Kramdi aren't just sitting there watching RB's set new league ground records every game on them while Younger says "stick to the scheme, stick to the scheme" like some demented horror movie doll.

It was 100% the fear that Younger was leaving with Buck. Buck interviewed with Sask (hired Mace) and told them he was bringing Younger.

Where this urban myth about Hall being unable to coach on field came from I will never know. Show me the proof and I'll believe it but I've never seen any to this point.

You realize they go all the way back to playing together in 2004? Who was the DC at that time? None other than Rich Stubler. The two are a package deal by this point.

How do they whitewash picking his coaches for him? It's like telling him he is not in charge of the on field product anymore.  We are talking about a stubborn and prideful coach. CAN'T happen. MOS won't let it happen.

Ah, but you're assuming MOS doesn't WANT it to happen.  Board->WM calling down a Younger firing absolves MOS of any responsibility.  Just like the Hogan debacle.

I don't believe that MOS can look at the Younger result from the 3 "run destruction" games (soon to be 4) and be "ya, this is fine".  I don't care what hips they are joined at, MOS will simply not let Younger drag him down any further now that the unfixable flaws are apparent to the whole world.  It can't be tweaked for next year and suddenly work.  Better players won't help.

He says "they just need to be inches closer" and "5 plays back" but on the D side against that run, he doesn't mean that.  So many runs no one even had a shot at a tackle before the 1st down marker.  Or you're putting guys like Nichols/Kyrie coming from way upfield trying to tackle great backs in space, which is hard for any DB/LB, even the good ones.

Again, they've lost me, then they've probably lost everyone else.  Keep in mind that even if Younger dials up an only-stop-Salter+Horvath plan and it half works, our luck this season will dictate we'll still lose.  Brady will fumble.  Vaval will fumble.  Zach will get knocked out.  This is our season in a nutshell.

The only way this will be disproven is if Younger can limit Salter+RBs to 75 on the ground, and we hold them to 9 points.  Even then, it may be that MOS ripped up Younger's plan and forced a straight run-blitz book on him; not any improvement or lightbulb moment from Younger.

Lost in all this must be the D players.  They must be SOOOO angry after these all-run halves.  They know they can stop these guys if they were allowed to play normal D football like every other team does (you know, cover-1 or cover-0 when a team is running on you).  But they are stuck doing exactly what they are told (cover-2), or they get chastised, as MOS has spelled out on many occasions.  "See, you just do what you're told and it will all work out" -MOS.

The demoralization of the D, and the whole team too, must be INSANE right now.  I wonder if we'll start to see outright mutiny by the D, with DL and LB and FS doing more freelancing to cheat up to the run vs BC.  I think the room is lost, and THAT is a great reason to fire the DC.

Crazy name I'll throw out. Dave Dickenson. Rumored to be out of work if the Bombers win Friday.

As OC, not DC, right  :D  :D  :D

I don't think he'll want to leave his many-hats super-high-pay gig for lowly Condell money.

As for whether he'd be a good OC... he hasn't really proven it in CGY the last 5 seasons.  Though maybe that's a function of him trying to do too much.  He makes some really dumb decisions.  That said, he does like and understand a good ground game -- possibly better than Condell.

It's an interesting idea, but I might still lean towards Condell.

Yes, I was getting back to the thread's topic. OC.

As far as the last 5 years Delmonaco has been the OC there. How much input he gets from Dickenson I have no idea.

Dickenson was the OC in Calgary during Hufnagels run, promoted to HC when the Huffer moved upstairs.

We should clean house at the coordinator positions. If MOS wants to strap himself to failing leaders of failing units, then you really are faced with the decision of whether to give him the benefit of the doubt (despite each unit regressing or being plagued with inconsistency yearly) or making a tough decision for the sake of the team.

100% if you bring back MOS you are also bringing back the same coaches and whatever vets tape can hold together.

Even in some alternate reality where Younger is no longer here, MOS would promote someone already here to continue the vision. MOS AGREES with what Younger does. He demoted the best DC he's ever had, Richie Hall, just so he wouldn't lose Younger. They are both Stubler disciples from waaay back.

And fans wanted to fire Hall, then he was a Grey Cup winner, then  Younger was great, now we have to fire Younger.

I would be disappointed if Dickensen was let go.... Angry Dave is entertaining.

Waffler

Let's say we clean house of our coordinators. With or without MOS's blessing. Do you have any confidence he would hire someone really good?  His record is spotty at best. Lapo, Hall, Pierce. Those are the only good ones. Did I forget any?

You'd be just as likely to get an Etcheverry or a Hogan.

Quote from: Tecno on Today at 04:31:53 AM7?  You give us waaaaaaay too much credit.

You know what will be fitting for the BC game?

1. We'll lose
2. We'll lose huge
3. We'll give up 440Y on the ground
4. Zach will get knocked out, leave, and never be seen again
5. Brady will get an avg of 2.5YPC before garbage time
6. Dru will throw 4 INTs
7. Some REC will get blown up with a suicide throw and be out
8. Nobody Salter who will never beat another team ever will clobber us all on his own, get 200Y on the ground, and Rourke won't even play one snap
9. However many TDs Horvath needs to beat Milt, that's how many we'll give him, thus screwing us now and Milt for eternity, thus crowning our achievement of crap

If Mafia won't fire Younger after that, the board will step in and do it.

And if that all happens

JY, Condell and Zach will all be back next year

People talking like changes are coming and I don't see it.

Any change in this team's passive philosophy will only happen when Oshea is gone
