Quote from: Waffler on October 11, 2026, 11:39:29 PMI thought he had to. One too many lineman stayed on and a db tried to run off. Calgary noticed. It would have been an easy td.

But I don't recall someone leaving after the TO?  You're saying we were going to take a for-sure too-many-men?

To me it looked like the alignment was all confused.  I was watching MOS and he was running down the sideline yelling and waving his arms at a few players trying to tell them what to do.  It looked like more than one player was doing something wrong.

Why Kramdi et al weren't getting them straightened out is beyond me.  Maybe Kramdi wasn't out there?  I'll have to check on the PVR.

MOS was NOOOOOOOOOOT happy.  Losing our ability to challenge that early (relatively) was baaaad.

There was a ton of miscommunication near the midway point of the third quarter when Calgary was first-and-goal from the six-yard line. Head coach Mike O'Shea, defensive coordinator Jordan Younger, and defensive line coach Jake Thomas were all waving their arms frantically, as it appeared the team had too many players on the field.

Two players ran off, and Michael Fletcher looked visibly confused about whether or not he should be on the field. Instead of running a play with what appeared to be 11 players on the field, O'Shea called a time out. He was then visibly frustrated, taking off his headset and exasperatedly speaking with his assistants.

The coaches (all teams) talk a pretty big game about the 35s not really being a problem, but it seems to me the number of too-many-men and coaches blowing timeouts at weird times is way up this season.  And it's the 35s clock.

Of course, it's to be expected.  What's disappointing is WFC seems to be handling it worse than other teams.  I think we have more of these botches.  That would also include confused players, not necessarily penalties, because no one has time to communicate.  However, my scrutiny of our team in particular may make us seem worse than we are.

I can see why MOS would be cheesed off, since this would be something clearly delegated to the sub-coaches/coords.

Will it improve by next year, or is 35s just too short?  Remember, 40s in the NFL, and they are supposedly "smarter and better".  And note how this one occurred way down the field -- where players need to run farther/faster just to make it on/off in time from the midfield benches.

What happened was 93, Fletcher was starting to come off after a short yardage play but then stopped and looked confused. Nichols came up to him and pointed at the sideline saying something which is probably get off the field. Vaval is the player at the bottom of the screen trying to get off the field late. If he made it, I assumed no too many men but one short in the defensive backfield. We were not set at all when Calgary tried to snap but the timeout just did beat out the play. Turned out to be a running play probably trying to get the too many men.

The replay right after shows both MOS and Jake Thomas waving and yelling Fletch! That's what it looked to me. You see Vaval run across the field on the replay too as the waving is almost over. I think he makes it although it is not shown. Timeout is then called.

Tell you what, Smith can legit ball out. If we miss on Shay it doesn't really matter, that draft is successful as long as we keep him.

Next year he's going a star even if he misses the last few games here. Talk about a guy who's trajectory went straight up in year two. Next year he has a shot at being the best SAM in the league.

The ref missed Philpot holding Kramdi on the next play for the TD.

That's a valid take.  Forgive the blown 1RDP pick because we struck gold on 2RDP.  That said, ideally you score on both.  From that 1R cohort, how many are legit starters on the other teams?  How many were picked before Shay and thus could have been ours??

Agreed that Smith is legit good and eliminates the need to find a star IMP SAM.  Smith is a bit of a tweener to me: seems like he could play WILL too.  A bit beefier than your average SAM, but still mobile.  Has a good nose, and is smart enough that he's learning a lot on the fly -- he's not making nearly as many mistakes and bites as he did earlier in the season.

Everyone picked before Shay are playing well. Guy's picked after him, Findlay, Frotin, Harris, Ojo, Bagnah, shand, Beauchemin, are all either outstanding or are developing quicker then Shay is.
