Edmonton Elks without Joe Robustelli against Ticats

The Edmonton Elks will be without prized free-agent receiver Joe Robustelli once again when they face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday.

The 29-year-old has been placed on the one-game injured list this week due to a foot issue. He did not make his debut in Green and Gold until Week 14 due to injury and has appeared in just three games since signing with the team this offseason, recording 14 catches for 177 yards and two touchdowns.

Canadian Zach Mathis will step into the starting lineup in place of Robustelli, while backup running back ShunDerrick Powell will take his spot on the roster after he was a late scratch last week. Canadian running back Isaiah Knight has been demoted to the practice roster.

Centre David Beard remains on the roster, but has been listed as a game-time decision due to a calf injury. The former All-CFL selection is doubtful to play, with veteran Mark Korte already listed in the starting lineup in his stead.

The Elks do have some good news on defence, where promising rookie defensive tackle Gavin Meyer is slated to make his return from injury. In eight games, the 24-year-old American has amassed 17 defensive tackles, a sack, two batted passes, and two interceptions.

Carmine Bastone, who was playing in lieu of Meyer, has been returned to the practice roster. Canadian defensive back Benji Sangmuah will dress this week in a depth role.

The Edmonton Elks (10-4) will host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-10) on Saturday, September 26, with kickoff scheduled for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Tabbies lost to the Montreal Alouettes last week, while the Elks narrowly lost to the Toronto Argonauts.

The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on the Ticats Audio Network in Hamilton or 880 CHED in Edmonton.

Hamilton Tiger-Cats down two defensive starters against Elks

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats will be short two of their top defensive players when they face the Edmonton Elks on Saturday.

Star cornerback Jamal Peters has been placed on the one-game injured list after missing practice all week with a head injury. The 29-year-old has appeared in 13 games this season, making 32 defensive tackles, five pass breakups, and three interceptions. He previously missed one game after he had to be stretchered off the field against the B.C. Lions.

The six-foot-two, 220-pound cover man has amassed 37 pass breakups and 24 interceptions in his CFL. He is a two-time All-CFL selection and three-time East Division all-star.

Defensive tackle Miles Fox will also miss this week with a head injury. In 14 games, the 29-year-old has made 16 defensive tackles, two tackles for loss, and three sacks, while batting down two passes. It has been a career year for the former B.C. Lion and Winnipeg Blue Bomber.

Quavian White will take over at field halfback this week, allowing Devodric Bynum to play field corner and Zamari Walton to bounce over to the boundary to replace Peters. Canadian veteran Charbel Dabire will get the start in place of Fox, with De'Jon Benton activated as insurance.

The Ticats have also made a change at punter. Nik Constantinou will take over the position after recently returning from the NFL, sending fellow Global Mitch McCarthy to the practice roster.

Well, entertaining game, maybe best in a month.  Huge letdown at the end though.  You have EDM on the ropes many times and you don't plunge the dagger... just stupid.

All of those drops late in the game and OT were by NATs.  When you need the win, why are you throwing to Tern, Smith, KJG & BOO?  The IMPs whiffed too, but those were harder balls -- Cody was getting tense and putting way too much zip on everything.

HAM should be ashamed of themselves with that idiotic could-win-it-all 2nd mini game.  You're at the 4 with 3 tries you should just go max SY.  Put the beef in and drive it 1.33 each snap on avg.  MOS would do that.  It's virtually guaranteed if you have a good SY QB, and it doesn't matter how much they stuff that box.

I knew that was game when they passed on 1st.  They weren't going to get that 2nd.  They should have tried again on 3rd, because the outcome was going to be the same.  No way you beat EDM in a 2-pt shootout with all the designed stuff they have drawn up just for that situation.

Aggravating.  And still Cody hasn't gotten injured all season with all of that running, scrambling and sneaking he does.  Doubly aggravating.  Running QBs get hurt: it's an axiom.

I guess no one is catching EDM for 1st now, so the West goes through EDM.  At least HAM is eliminated which guarantees that xover spot, which we will likely get.

We should study what HAM did to frustrate EDM's O so much. Edm was never comfortable all game. And they had Cody being wildly inaccurate.

We could use those strategies when we face them, assuming they are still bothering to play.

When push comes to shove Fajardo can't keep up with Rourke, Alexander or Kelly when they get their offences ramped up. No other QB can either, so it's not a black mark on his ability, he's done a fantastic job guiding their offence and would be considered for CFL MVP if they had that award.
