Two starting offensive linemen return for Ottawa Redblacks against Calgary

The Ottawa Redblacks will have improved protection for McLeod Bethel-Thompson in their rematch with the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday.

Two of the team's starting offensive linemen are slated to make their return from injury. 2026 first-overall CFL Draft pick Giordano Vaccaro is back at right guard after a three-game absence due to a shoulder injury. Meanwhile, Julian Pearl, who originally took over the right tackle job in Week 9, returns from a knee injury suffered in Week 15.

American right tackle Zachary Barlev will be bumped out of the starting lineup to make room for Pearl but remains on the active roster as insurance. Former first-round pick Sam Carson, who was playing in place of Vaccaro, has been placed on the six-game injured list due to an ankle problem.

The Redblacks have also activated a trio of defensive linemen, including Jessie Evans, who will get the start at defensive end after recovering from a head injury. Canadian rookie Charlie Parks and American newcomer Kyron Johnson will provide further depth. Amani Bledsoe will get the start at defensive tackle as Global veteran Blessman Ta'ala moves to the one-game injured list due to an ankle injury.

American linebacker Aaron Casey has been placed on the reserve roster while battling a head injury, and defensive back Kahzir Brown has been demoted to the practice roster. Defensive tackle Isaiah Mack was released after playing last week.

With a loss this week, the Redblacks can tie the 1994 Shreveport Pirates for the most consecutive losses to start a season in CFL history with 14.

The Ottawa Redblacks (0-13) will host the Calgary Stampeders (6-8) on Saturday, September 26, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The two teams met at McMahon Stadium last week, where Rene Paredes kicked a 62-yard game-winning walk-off field goal.

The game will be broadcast on TSN, RDS2, CTV, and Crave in Canada, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 770 CHQR in Calgary or TSN 1200 in Ottawa.

Calgary Stampeders down three starters against Redblacks

The Calgary Stampeders will be without receiver Reggie Begelton, offensive lineman D'Antne Demery, and strong-side linebacker Derrick Moncrief when they visit the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday. The team released its official depth chart on Friday morning.

Begelton has been moved to the one-game injured list with a head injury. He was officially listed as questionable on the team's most recent injury report.

The 33-year-old has made five catches for 63 yards over two starts this season. The native of Beaumont, Texas only recently returned to the field after suffering a fractured leg early last season. The three-time All-CFL selection has made 432 receptions for 5,723 yards and 28 touchdowns over 92 career regular-season games with the Stampeders.

Begelton will be replaced by Erik Brooks, who is shifting over one spot at slotback. Clark Barnes will start in place of Brooks, while Damien Alford will start at wideout.

Demery has been moved to the six-game injured list with an ankle injury. He did not practice this week and was officially ruled out on Thursday's injury report.

The 29-year-old has made 14 consecutive starts at left tackle this season. The six-foot-four, 322-pound blocker has played 53 career regular-season games over six CFL seasons with the Edmonton Elks and Stampeders.

The native of Brunswick, Ga. will be replaced at left tackle by William Barnes. The 26-year-old native of Apopka, Fla. made three starts at right tackle early this season but was subsequently placed on the practice roster.

Moncrief has been moved to the six-game injured list with a hamstring injury. He was officially listed as questionable for Saturday's game after practicing for most of the week.

The six-foot-one, 217-pound defender has made 45 defensive tackles, two tackles for loss, two pass knockdowns, one interception, and one touchdown over 14 starts this season. He is a two-time All-West Division selection and one-time All-CFL selection.

The 33-year-old will be replaced by Bailey Devine-Scott, who has spent most of this season on the six-game injured list. Over 46 career regular-season games with Calgary, the native of Westmead, Australia has tallied 31 defensive tackles, 33 special teams tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass knockdown, and one forced fumble.

In other moves, Calgary has activated receiver Jeremiah Hunter, defensive lineman Daniel Grzesiak, and defensive back Lance Boykin, and placed defensive lineman Khairi Manns on the practice roster.

The Calgary Stampeders (6-8) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (0-13) on Saturday, September 26 with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 p.m. EDT. The two teams met at McMahon Stadium last week, where Rene Paredes kicked a 62-yard game-winning walk-off field goal.

Ottawas secondary is horrendous absolutely the worst in the league, no wonder they're 0-13 soon to be 0-14

Can't believe I m saying this but I'd put Jake Maier back in at Qb, MBT is just plain awful, pitiful actually that you're relying on someone this bad to lead your offense, he should be out right cut

blueandgoldguy

The defense for Ottawa has really improved since they replaced their defensive coordinator huh? :D

Their secondary is a joke, guys just running all over the lace with nobody knowing what to do or make a tackle. Total bush league

Blue In BC

Ottawa seems to have lost this game by half time.
One game at a time

I would take BMT for the rest of the season if ZC8 is out. Strong arm and gets the ball out quick. Give Ottawa a 7th round pick.
Don't go through life looking in the rearview mirror.

I'd go with Brown and Perkins. Perkins has shown he's s threat with his legs, if the time comes, see what he can do with his arm. He was MVP of UFL for a reason...

I'm kinda getting a "Michael Bishop with a brain" vibe from Perkins, and would like to see him get some actual real reps, but that won't happen until were eliminated from the playoffs.

The dude threw for 9 touchdowns in that MVP season. Had 1000 yards less passing yardage than the league leader.

People gotta stop talking about his UFL season like it means anything.
My wife is amazing!

3Q3:10 The VAJ RTP on the OTT pick.  Sorry, that's not RTP.

Is it late?  No, it's maybe 1/3 sec after the ball is out.
Is it a blow to the head or neck?  Not that I could see.  Looked like a shoulder pull.
FM or HC?  Nope.

So all they have left is "is it too rough"?  My standard for this is: if he still had the ball, would they have cared if he got sacked that way?  And I say no, they would not flag that if he had the ball.  The pass rusher used the only tool and method of tackle available to him while being pushed around the back of the QB.

So to me there must be something we can't see, or it's just a bad call.  It appears Dinwiddie still had his flag, so I'm not sure why he didn't challenge.

4Q12:28 Command pauses the game to fix the spot on the is-it-a-catch and is-he-dbc-or-still-running low-catch by OTT.

The rules stipulate what plays command can unilaterally force these pauses.  I'm pretty sure a ball spot is NOT one of them, unless it's the last 3 minutes.  Command can (possibly) fix the spot, but only if it doesn't result in a long pause.

This pause on my PVR is from 2.27.37 to 2.29.36.  That's a 2 minute pause from whistle to whistle.

This should not be allowed.  If Dickenson The Greater didn't like the spot, he could have challenged it.  That's the normal procedure.  Watching this game I get the distinct impression the refs and/or league do not want OTT to win a game.  So many bad spots (guess which ref...), iffy RTP, other questionable calls like this one.  Weird.

Is there some impetus to make sure CGY is in the playoffs so they can sell GC tickets??
