Hamilton Tiger-Cats shuffle offensive line, secondary against Alouettes

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have made multiple changes to their starting lineup for Friday night's game against the Montreal Alouettes. The team released its official depth chart on Thursday.

The Tiger-Cats have moved veteran offensive lineman Liam Dobson from centre to right guard. Brayden Szeman, the team's fourth-round pick in the 2026 CFL Draft, will start at centre.

The move came after Jonathan Denis, who started last week's game at right guard, was moved to the one-game injured list with a knee injury. He was limited in practice throughout the week and official listed as questionable.

This will be Szeman's first career regular-season CFL start. The six-foot-one, 302-pound native of Vernon, B.C. has dressed for two previous games in a depth role. He made 32 collegiate starts at centre the University of Calgary.

Hamilton has also moved field-side halfback Quavian White to the reserve roster, and will start Devodric Bynum in his place. White has recorded 40 defensive tackles, one tackle for loss, five pass knockdowns, and one sack through nine regular-season games this year. He did not appear on Hamilton's injury report this week.

Bynum has made four starts so far this year and dressed for six games, tallying 17 defensive tackles, one pass knockdown, and one interception. The 27-year-old played 19 regular-season games as a member of the Edmonton Elks over the past two years.

The Tiger-Cats have also gone back to Larry Rountree III as their starter at running back. The five-foot-ten, 210-pound ball-carrier has rushed for 572 yards, caught 31 passes for 163 yards, and scored one touchdown so far this season.

The 27-year-old was replaced by Nahree Biggins in Hamilton's recent loss to the Toronto Argonauts. He rushed for 36 yards and caught two passes for 15 yards in his regular-season CFL debut.

As announced on Wednesday, Harrison Frost will start for Steeltown at quarterback. The 27-year-old has gone 1-1 as a starter this season, completing 58.8 percent of his passes for 734 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.

The six-foot-one, 194-pound passer rejoined the Tiger-Cats in July after a stint with the St. Louis Battlehawks of the UFL. He has completed 59.6 percent of his passes for 829 yards, six touchdowns, and three interceptions over 25 career CFL regular-season games.

The Tiger-Cats and Alouettes have already met twice this season. Montreal won 30-27 at Hamilton Stadium in Week 1, and 31-18 at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Week 8.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (4-9) will host the Montreal Alouettes (10-3) at Hamilton Stadium on Friday, September 18 with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EDT. Last week, the Alouettes lost 48-29 in a gritty game against the B.C. Lions, while the Tiger-Cats were on bye.

The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 690 (English) or 99.5 Montreal (French) in Montreal or the Ticats Audio Network.

Montreal Alouettes to start Charleston Rambo against Tiger-Cats

The Montreal Alouettes will have Charleston Rambo in the starting lineup when they visit the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night. The team released its official depth chart on Thursday.

The six-foot-one, 185-pound target rejoined the team earlier this month. The native of Cedar Hill, Texas made 54 receptions for 585 yards and three touchdowns in 17 regular-season games last year. He also tallied four catches for 50 yards in the 112th Grey Cup.

Rambo has replaced Alexander Hollins at boundary wide receiver. Hollins is listed as a backup at slotback behind Kaseem Ferdinand and has a game-time decision designation. The veteran target was limited in practice this week with an adductor injury.

Montreal has also placed Cole Spieker on the six-game injured list (hamstring). The veteran receiver has made 26 catches for 381 yards and three touchdowns over nine regular-season games this year.

The Alouettes have also promoted Lwal Uguak to the starting lineup at defensive end. The former first-round CFL draft pick has made seven defensive tackles over 12 regular-season games in a depth role this season.

David Perales, who has made six starts this year, has been placed on the practice roster in a corresponding move.

Kabion Ento has been placed on the six-game injured list due to an ankle injury. The 30-year-old has made 17 defensive tackles, four pass knockdowns, three fumble recoveries, two forced fumbles, one interception, and one touchdown through nine starts this season. He was named All-East Division in 2024.

The veteran will be replaced at field-side cornerback by Neil Campbell. The five-foot-eleven, 206-pound defender finished his collegiate career at the University of Texas at El Paso in 2025, where he recorded 56 tackles, six tackles for loss, three pass breakups, two sacks, and one forced fumble. This will be Campbell's first career CFL regular-season game.

Mekhi Mews will take over the return duties after DeVonte Dedmon was placed on the six-game injured list with a knee injury. The 23-year-old finished his collegiate career at the University of Houston in 2025, where he ranked third in the Big 12 with 519 return yards.

I don't know. This is a new type of pressure and Alexander isn't handling it well so far. Plus, Wpg set the template for beating the mtl O, and clearly other teams have taken notes.

Sometimes when you're supposed to be the best and it just isn't working you overcompensate. You also can get too aggressive and lose the necessary patience. Not like Maas and Alexander had any to begin with...

That said, we need to hope mtl wins because we don't want to play a desperate mtl at the end of the season. Still, it'll be hilarious if bad ham beats the Goliath!

If Alexander wants to earn the MOP and show he's better than Rourke, he may start running more and with colder weather hamstrings and ligaments stiffen up just a bit. It'd be tragic if something snapped just in time for playoffs.

Ya, I don't think the hammie will last the season again.  It's already clearly causing him grief, like in this last game.  Every time he has a big run or bad tackle he starts limping a bit.

What I want to know is how many times will the CFL let him stop for a "cramp stretch" every game without forcing him out?  He did it twice last game.  Sure, he has to come out for 3, but if it's before a punt anyhow, that's a no-op.  What if he starts needing that trainer work 3-5 times a game?  It slows the whole thing down and doesn't look good.

Nothing wrong with him a SY QB, if he hadn't asked for his release he'd probably still be in Wpg. and Perkins would have ended up on the PR or cut.
