On the show after the game on OB, ZC confirmed he got the wind knocked out of him. Do you listen to it?

Don't make things out of nothing. Many athletes get the wind knocked out of them and can play normally right after.  It wasn't a big injury. I've had it happen in sports to me, you need a few minutes.

I heard Zach's interview but we've been having this conversation for years.

To help Zac out and improve the O line until we can find better players is using six O linemen. Our 4 and 5 Nat receivers are hardly used.
Until Bryant is replaced he could use that extra guy on his side.
We started 9 Nats against Ottawa and the way Wilson has been dropping the ball lately get Zac another Imp receiver to throw to

While tempting it's usually not a good every down solution. For one, our 6th olineman is not starting quality and he'll just be a lightning rod for defensive coordinators to exploit. Pass protection can and often does end up one on one.

Secondly, even if our secondary receiving is awful, having them run around and look Canadian still requires them to be covered which is helpful. Less receivers can mean coverage times last longer which means the quarterback is holding the ball longer and that's the opposite of what you want if you're trying to solve pass protection.

What is a good idea is keeping Brady or a receiver or Daniels in to chip and block when we need and then release when it's not. We are doing this by and large.

It would help if our quarterback wasn't as slow as the Titanic or if they were more of a cerebral three step drop and throw style guy but unfortunately for us he's the former and not the latter.

Quote from: bunker on August 15, 2026, 06:44:04 PMOn the challenge he was probably influenced by there being only about 7 minutes left in the game, but agree there was very little to suggest PI there. Should have kept his flag for later in case it was needed.

But did you see how instantly after we lost our challenge the flood gates were open to OTT getting every chintzy call?  It was like immediately after OTT got their long penalty-aided drive.

I agree with the normal MOS challenge paradigm: you hold it until near the end, or only when you are 100% sure you will win.  MOS didn't follow his own rules.  I knew the instant he threw the nylon that we were losing our challenge.

In the CFL you MUST hold the challenge to keep the refs honest.  Fear of being over-ruled and getting a bad "grade" keeps them honest.  When you lose that they tend to go mental.

Quote from: theaardvark on August 15, 2026, 10:37:09 PMIf it had been called PI on the field it would not have been overturned, IMHO.

But the defender has a right to a path to the ball, and he was purely going for the ball.  It might even have been called OPI, and not overturned.

The rules have stipulations about "gained position".  First (b)(i) says "both teams have an equal right to the ball and are entitled to the positions they occupy"

And (b)(vii) "a player who has gained position shall not be considered to have impeded or restricted the opponent [...] if all such actions are a bona fide effort to go to and play the ball".  In this case the OTT DB did have position (which I assume means he's closer to the ball or behind the REC), and seemed to be making an effort to INT.

It happened right in front of MOS, so not sure what he thought he saw.  Pretty sure he knows these rules.  Unless he thought because of that jump the player was faking trying to catch (would he have??) and was just looking for an excuse to block where the REC needed to be.  It's an interesting thought: if he doesn't jump, would it be less "not DPI" or more "not DPI"?

I agree with everything said here.  I thought that hit would put him back on the IR but I'm often wrong with player injuries.  Like you said lots can walk it off.  I have a hard time seeing when someone is winded from the nose bleeds.  The guys on TV pick that up pretty quick.  While we all need to be worried about Zach and his health, that hit proves he can take one still, which I didn't think was true until he got up and came back on.  He is still venerable to re-injury but we have to also remember how durable he has been, more so when he 1st came here.  With his history of injuries, he has done pretty well for us, while his last few years have been very worrisome, both for his ability to play the bulk of the games and have us be competitive.  But mostly b/c I worry about his health long term and many share that view.  You are right, when injuries occur it's critical to stick to the facts.  CJOB was very helpful in that regard.  Even Willie talked about Jake's injury this season and you knew he would be ok (few games back).  We are lucky to have CJOB and the staff there, they are world class imo, mind you always have been.  Radio sport broadcasts are special due to the detail you gain from the broadcast team.  Sometimes if we lose I turn it off to ease the pain LOL.

A hit in the side like that is a little like the one Brown took the previous game. There may be significant pain as opposed to injury per se. Hard to tell when it knocks you out of a game as did with Brown. Teams use precaution to protect players and that makes if for us posters to know where the line was drawn.

I wasn't sure Collaros would be able or allowed to return but he did. All that said, our OL needs to do better. He still had to miss a series in his 1st game back. That is something to be concerned about.

Good - Sergio Castillo briefly set a CFL record for most 50+ yard field goals in a career.

Bad - CFL took the record away after a review

Ugly - The review involved a play that took place 4 weeks ago

Quote from: CFL Game NotesCareer 50+ Yd FGs Made Update: Last week with Sergio Castillo making a 56-yarder vs Ottawa he was shown as having a new CFL career record of 41 made 50+ yard FGs. However to be absolutely certain and to do no disservice to record holder Troy Westwood, based on video evidence provided to CFL Stats this week a review was required. It was very clear that a Castillo FG made attempt on Jul 24/26 v CGY was actually good from 49 yards and not 50 (due primarily to the angle which FG plays can be viewed).

BTW - the kick was from 49 yards away.

I'm fine with them changing it to reflect and accurate stat/record, but it's wierd that it was looked at.

Irrelevant anyhow, he'll probably get the next 50 yarder in a couple of days.
