I don't think the coaches are very good. Last year's coaches were better and the gm ..never hear from him . He sits in his office makes off season moves that don't make sense. Picks up White. He hasn't done much. None of our receivers are very good. Except Demski. Receivers are covered like a book on every play.  Other QBs have it pretty good. Players are so wide open it's not even funny Sask game Edmonton player was 25 yards in the open on one play. Never seen any of our receivers open all game.

I hear you on the receiver frustration. Part of the issue is we've gone with three Canadians there (and really the offensive side of the ball is the entire ratio). We don't use the rules or roster to try and solve for that and so we see a game where we're getting a lot of blanket coverage across the board.

On the flip side of that tradeoff, we just aren't getting any value from JYs defense especially when you consider it's basically an all American crew and it's looking a lot like even the safety needs to be American because no one can play there.

demski and wilson are legit starters - white is on the fence and the rest are fodder.

the oline is the issue, then QB/receivers are tied for second then is play calling.  starts with the trenches and we are very weak without Broxton.

Yup. This week is going to be a big pivot point to see how we react. It's a chance to stay in the hunt.

I feel like I want to put play calling way higher up the list. Receivers are never open, we're repeating the same stuff over and over, we're always throwing into crowded parts of the field, running Brady as a wide out constantly instead of using him as a release valve, never getting the run game goin, and when it is going they move away from it.

it goes hand in hand but a lack of talent can't be solved in pro sports by play calling.

the not using BO is puzzling and that was an issue with Hogan too - makes you wonder..

the gaps between the issues are not huge but if your oline is getting steamrolled you are pretty sunk

Teams know where BO will be running and they fill the box to limit him. If our receiving group was more of a concern they couldn't do that. Combine that with the problem on the OL we have some serious problems.

When I heard about the theme I was kinda confused but it was actually fun and oddly worked. I enjoyed it and the present drop looked cool and felt different in a good way. Job well done by the game day team.

That's a theme that could probably grow into something bigger over the years if they stick with it.

Did Gaktooth play another down after almost giving us a chance to get back in it on those 2 big plays

He brought a speed off the edge we havent seen since Jeffcoat and Willie prime

One of the reasons are receivers are not open is how small they are. If you watch the Sask game, their big 3 have a much larger catch radius than ours do, due to their height. There were a number of throws by Dru that were "overthrown", but it was partly on Dru, and partly on the receivers not being able to climb the ladder and go up and get the ball. In fact, last night, it felt like 50/50 balls were actually 70/30 balls for the defense, with Stamp's DBs outfighting our small receivers for the ball. There's Daniels of course but he's pretty useless. And what's the deal with lining Brady out wide with an empty backfield, Brady is fairly slow and not a true receiver. I watched a number of times, and the Stamps corner was barely watching Brady's route, and was watching where they could slide over if the ball went to another receiver.

Yeah, I don't buy that. Hitting an open man doesn't depend on the receiver being 6'2". It relies on the offensive scheme pulling coverage away and receivers beating their man or finding soft parts in the zone.

Not the whole story, but a significant part of it. Lemilus, SBaker and Johnson make alot of their catches up high, and having 3-4 inches over the DB makes a difference. The other problem with such small receivers is how poorly they block, particulalry on wide receiver screens.

Face it, we just aren't that good of a football team. We got lit up my Calgary, imagine what Saskatchewan and Edmonton and Montreal are going to do to us. We are a middle to lower third team in this league

I thought I saw him often during the game. Whether he had nay reps after those 2 plays I'm not sure.
