Quote from: Sir Blue and Gold on July 06, 2026, 03:50:04 PMIf you're going to make that statement you've got to hold Collaros to the same standard (I would argue it should be a much higher standard, but whatever).

Collaros - 5 for 7 for 41 yards, 1 INT
Elgersma 11 for 15 for 86 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT

He also looked better than Streveler last year, and Dolegala and Ford. Context matters: first snaps in the CFL in month 2. His floor appears to be year 4 development for the backups he went up against. More reps to find out more.

I don't think I'm holding them to different standards. I think the coaches are. He was only able to attempt passes at or behind the line of scrimmage. He's never played at a pro level. He needs a year as the back-up. I mean, if you take away his hand off TD that was counted as a pass, he was throwing for an average of 3.9 yards per attempt.

Nothing against Elgersma, but we're not winning a game playing like that over 4 quarters (unless the opposing QB snaps his leg off). If we were stuck in this shortened game plan, would have much rather they had Druski in the line-up.

My wife is amazing!

Hello Jets for life you SHUt UP he has been terrible for years now especially in grey cups 22,23, 24.

He is damaged goods we were lucky what we got out of him for the time we did.

The hit was 100 MPH and Zach didn't see it coming. The helmet is so he can hear the plays being called.
Plan for the worst. Hope for the best.

Elgersma played to the situation which is encouraging, he took baby steps instead of big leaps because that's what the OC told him to do and he obeyed command, one pick-six and the game is out of reach. Of course if BLM had stayed healthy they lose, but they were going to lose anyways even if Zach had stayed in the game.

Hasn't been terrible. A few bad games in the big show agree.  We were not lucky with him, we benefited from his amazing skills at QB.  That's not luck, it was based on a lifetime of dedication to his craft.

Zach will battle back.  Pride and money keep him playing.  Big Dru Brown fan but I would run with Zach when healthy and pass the torch when he can't do it anymore.  I also worry about his health after football.  Tough situation but I can see him coming back from this.

I think it would take Brown a couple weeks to get rolling.

Quote from: Tecno on July 06, 2026, 09:53:05 AMI have no problem with Zach continuing to play, even in '27.  Every time he takes these whacks he's pulled for "precaution" only.  No one is diagnosing him with concussion.  Don't think he's had one they could discern since when he wore green.  Yes, he almost certainly is getting mini ones.  But do those matter?  Who knows.  Doesn't matter if he doesn't care.

We do have one problem though... Elgersma ran our short game O waaay better than Zach did/does.  Even the lack of a deep threat wasn't an impediment to Elgersma finding targets.  He didn't ignore Cobb wide out, like Zach does.  Elgersma had a bit more zip on the short pass.  He was nearly perfect in catching RECs in stride, even on tricky lateral-ish balls.

But yes, HAM was completely demoralized after BLM died on field.  So take Elgersma with a grain of salt after that.

What Zach brings is the superb mid and decent deep game.  Elgersma may not have that -- at least not yet.  I think Zach could be awesome again if we abandon the short game and do like a 2016-2017 CGY where every pass is mid/deep.  It would also force the run game wide open.  Zach is better when he has the wide field and wider-spaced D's to work with, and the lack of ball zip won't mean an INT -- as long as he throws soon enough the REC isn't more than 50Y away.

I don't share you optimism, for about the 10th time in the last couple of years I saw Zach take the field play lackadaisically and put the team behind the eight ball, he was only half way there but headed in that direction when he got knocked out. The only fire left comes out when he is desperately trying to mount a comeback after squandering the even footing the start of a game provides each team. That's also what he did in the ESF last season, by not being effective or productive early in the game he put the team in a hole they could not climb out of.

Contrast that with Rourke who came out flying against the Elks knowing his team had to win the game, you could see he was prepared to do whatever it took to win the game and break the back of their losing streak.

You realize our record with ZC is better than BC's with Rourke as their QB? Thanks for pointing that out.

I don't know how many more hits like that Collaros can take. Concussions are cumulative, and therefore detrimental to his craft, his health, and his quality of life. This makes for a precarious situation for him, and by extension, his family and the team. I worry about his reliability as a starter about as much as his durability as a pro athlete at his age, the latter of which is exacerbated by his history of concussions.

His career renaissance from 2021 through 2023 (and maybe stretches of 2024) was nothing short of incredible. I think it's fair to say that time has passed, though. It's been a noticeable decline going back to at least last season.

I'm not sure what the play is here, but it's probably time to take a hard look at the succession plan.

Is this the bad place?

You're right. Wouldn't hand the keys to Elgersma now but I'd seriously consider platooning Brown for the medium term. Let Zach's neck, erm, heal or whatever. The QB production won't be worse and will have a lot of upside.

With a short week, I think we will see one of Elegrsma or Brown start next week. I could be wrong but I feel it may take Zach a few weeks to get back up and running

Hope so. I'm way more optimistic about a Brown, Elgersma and Perkins lineup honestly.

They can throw 3500 yards and be 1:1 TD to INT ratio which is about where Zach has been the last two seasons with way more upside and an easier run game install.

I think, if Zach is on the IR, we see Elgersma start.  I wouldn't be surprised if Dru is second on the DC, and comes in if Taylor really struggles.

But I would love to see what Perkins could do, though.  Its not like he doesn't have a pedigree, UFL MVP is nothing to sneeze at.  He, no doubt, came here to take it to the next level in the CFL, and maybe get another NFL look.  He's not getting that chance at 4 on the DC on a .500 team.

Could the DC be Taylor, Bryce and Dru if Zach is on the IR?
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

The Bombers best chance to win now is with Collaros. I didn't hear anybody complaining about Collaros when he passed for 400 yards just a few weeks ago.Collaros does not have the mobility he once did however if you give him time he can still be a very effective Qb.

A message to Zach:

As Bomber fans, we love you, and you will always be a Blue Bomber. However, it's time to call it quits. Concussions are serious business, and we don't want you to get CTE. You are a hero for leading us to 2 Grey Cups, and wonderful times that will go down as some of the best in franchise history.

However, it's time to call it a day.  Take care of yourself.

well stated. It is time to cut the cord in a nice way. He woild be a great back up this year.
