Fishing has been pretty steady so far. Weather on the other hand has been a rollercoaster. The kids are smashing lots of perch and bass in shallow water on just about anything. Walleye's are still in 12-14' of water. On windy days it's been lindy rigs and bottom bouncers, with nightcrawlers. On calmer days it's 5/16 oz. jigs and medium size frozen minnows. Hearing that live minnows are working well.

Fishing continues to be very good. The bass and perch are pretty much biting on anything in swallow water. Still fishing for walleye's in 12-14' of water. Still jigging with minnows on calm days, but my Granddaughter like using Berkley 2" pinched nightcrawlers, or white 2" paddle tails. Live minnows have also been very productive, when the kids remember to check the trap.

Windy days still drifting, and using bottom bouncers and lindy rigs, tipped with a 3" Berkley nightcrawler with a paddle tail. I am old school and still like digging up my own nightcrawlers.

The down side. Lots of mosquito's and wood ticks. The wood ticks are the worst I have seen in years. Pick off at least one everyday. Trying some new tick spray. And, if that doesn't work I am going to try what we have been using on the dog.

Was on the Bird River for three days last week. The kids did very well fishing for Walleye's. Drifting or trolling with  bottom bouncers, lindy rigs, and nightcrawler.

I am also very happy that friends who lost there cabin last year in the fires, have moved out of our rental cabin and back into there new place back in Lac Du Bonnet. They rebuilt a beautiful 1400 Sq.Ft. energy efficient home. Still some work to do, but there back home.

Well in Kenora the walleye have gone deep. 20'- 24', 3/8 jigs, and salted or live minnows.

Beautiful  fishing weather for this  week. Did well on minnows and paddle tails. 20'-21' of water. 3/8 oz, Chartreus green jigs seemed to be the color this week.

Pinefalls is very slow for walleye's right now. Lots of Drums, and Jacks, but not many Walleye's.

A nice weekend in Kenora. The kids are catching smallmouth bass on just about anything right now. But, a small spinning lure tipped with a quarter of a nightcrawler was working the best. But, tipping the lure with a 2" soft bait was also working well.

The walleye were a little slow and deep right now. 1/2" OZ. jig or jigging lure worked the best. Live or fresh minnows seemed to be what they were looking for.

I have  had slow fishing off the dock in the spring, event he jack were slim.  Got a walter from the dock a month ago, bass were biting in June.  Overall not bad.  Got a nice 5lb jack at Otter Falls on the weekend.

Well my granddaughter had a very productive morning. We called it the natural hat trick since we are fishing in Canadian waters. Three 20" walleyes in a row within 15 minutes. 1/2 ounces green and white jig, on live minnows, in 20' of water. Not much action on frozen minnows, and no walleye action in shallow water.

Big weekend for conservation on Lake of the Wood. Lot of enforcement going on. They were checking everything. Even checked to see if Kayakers had a sounding device. Tons of boats get tickets.

Last night was a little slow. I think most of the walleye's may have moved into the channel. Had to resort to dipping the minnows in garlic oil. Sparked the action up for awhile, but mostly 16" and under. Headed back to the beach for some smallmouth bass and perch fishing. The perch and bass are still biting hard. Probably head to the channel in the morning. The kids hate the channel. Faster water and snag city if you fall asleep for a few seconds. Let see what the grasshoppers have learn this summer.
