Frederickson got himself back in the game last night showing a lot of grit but Singer continues to look very smooth, hopefully they both make the team and they extend the battle for the receiver spot into the season. Questions are do they go with 3 natl. receivers and do they need more grit or more polish, they seem to have a fair bit of both quantities at this time which is nice.

Joey Corcoran continues to impress all over the field with his catching, blocking and involvement on ST's, he even got in Sankey's face after he attempted to decapitate Frederickson.  He was very visible while Cobb was not. Not dismissing Cobb as he has good versatility in a lot of positions but I think he ends up as the backup waiting to fill in while Clercius and Corcoran rotate at the 5th receiver spot.

Finally spotted Daniels and he was doing a good job as the 6th O-line blocking but not much of a target in the passing game.  I don't know if they will have room for him and Vibert on the AR, so he may have to start out on the PR as he can't fill in as a backup O-linemen in game, which is essential.

Quote from: Throw Long Bannatyne on Today at 05:33:48 PMIf they both make the AR, there is no room left for one of these game changing rookies unless they increase the size of the D-line rotation above 6, which I hope they do.

Willie
Lawson
Ceresna
Schmeck or Cornie
M-Bailey
Gatkuoth

Hoping they don't give a roster spot to Gatkuoth like they did Derell Patterson a couple of years ago, can't afford to have mediocre components taking up space on the D-line. Maybe he'll be ready someday but I don't think he's there yet, a year on the PR with a few intervals on the AR won't hurt.

That's not true at all. It's simple, remove Ayers for a possible game changing rookie. Keep in mind that Ayers is listed as and used a few times as a DE.

We all know how good Ayers is on ST's but that's the cost to not having an actual DL as a DI. Different season, same story.

Whether Gatkouth or Munier-Bailey are just taking space is somewhat irrelevant. It's about ratio and not about talent on the DL.

I repeat that I like Ayers for his work on ST's but I understand that trade off and I'm not in favour of it. Even one of the rookie LB's might be a better option.

That will ruffle the feathers of a few folks.

Depends on what you mean make the team. Clearly there is no chance both make the AR due to ratio issues unless we have an injury. Both are better than a 3rd Canadian receiver starting but Demski and Nield will both be starting. That leaves one as a choice for the AR and another on PR.

Vaval hasn't been practising which brings us back to injury issue. If he is off the roster for game one then Singer is the returner and we gain an extra spot.

I was looking for a few players to stand out. Some did and some disappointed.

DL
Dixon was awesome! He was creating pressure through the pass rush and 3 tackles for a loss! Really believe he can become what we've been missing on the DL. Hope he gets to start.
Arnold popped off the page from the inside. He has great speed and great strength up the middle. He really stood out from the others.
Gatkuoth and Bailey were disappointing... They both look undersized out there, and not quick or strong enough to create pressure against the backups. Both are still young so they progress with a full season of development.

QB
Elgersma stays in the pocket so well. I recall games last season where Zach was seeing ghosts, panicking in the pocket before running into a sack. Great zip on the ball, and patience waiting for things to open up. Give him a couple years under the right mentorship and he could be one of the best in the league!
Perkins was fun. Really don't like the comment saying that Perkins is the type of player you can find anytime. Perkins has already accomplished great things passing the ball in other leagues. Give him a few weeks and I think he could fall into a really solid backup roll. He was also really good at QB sneaks, so that will help replace Strev right away!

WR
Only one WR stood out today and that was Fredrickson. One toughish catch broken up but other than that he was getting wide open and catching everything. He was building great chemistry with Elgersma.
Singer dropped that deep one but I wouldn't hold that against him. Better to drop them now rather than the regular season. I recall calling Lawler a bust in his second preseason game for dropping a couple catches he should make.

Daniels looked great! Every run play he was making a great block isolating a linebacker. Played very well without touching the ball.

I consider PR as making the team, at least they're still in the mix. Game circumstances and ratio are unpredictable and often determine who gets on the AR.

Quote from: Blue In BC on Today at 01:56:13 AMDixon made a good play early in the game. Didn't notice many mistakes. I still think Jenkins makes the AR and Dixon goes to PR. Fletcher and Young could be PR candidates as well.

Haven't seen anything from Reese or Pace tonight.

Our OL back ups have not been bad but who is on the field, where and when is tough to follow. IMO 3 OL end up on PR which includes 1 Canadian and 2 imports.
Reese chased down a QB and got him, showed some speed, at least that what my foggy memory thinks lo

Great thoughts everyone, a really enjoyed the game and can't disagree with what everyone is saying

Who thinks Peterson might be gone? CJOB doesn't as he took Gauthier's place on teams.  He didn't look great today at RB but I do like him.  Wonder if we have room to keep two extra RBs? I would assume one goes to PR but would they take it? Do we have room on the PR for one if needed.  Seams like some very tough decisions here.  What did we do last year for our extra RBs in terms of the roster?
