Guess he was given the opportunity to make the position his own, and for some reason, failed.  Whether it was fitness, or just not being able to pick up Younger's language for the D, we'll never know.  I does, however, send a message to other vet's not to sit on their laurels...
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

Given every chance to lose the job.  Someone on another forum pointed out that if you watch the BB reciever highlights from the first days of camp/rookie camp, on alomst every big catch, it was DB #4 (McGhee) getting blown up.....

I noticed that as well. OTOH he was getting beat by Demski and Wilson which is the ultimate test.

Ok. Next man up.

Pity, had high hopes for Jahmal Banks, tall receiver with fantastic hands that played for Nebraska, thought he would be the import receiver they kept around on the PR to learn the CFL game. Could be their receiving   priorities changed with the drafting of Daniels and the signing of Nield maybe they don't see the need for another big target.

Goes to show you that "starting" doesn't mean much in training camp, especially early. Or at least it shouldn't (totally get that in recent years it has).

Lots of reasons to put guys in specific places including to assess soft skills, how they react to moving up and down the order, etc.

We haven't seen any examples recently of it not meaning anything, so I guess I'm pleasantly surprised.

Still 7 import OL fighting for a role on the roster. Excluding Bryant and Broxton which are locks.

Get that. The approach is different this year I believe.

Quote from: Tecno on Today at 06:42:03 AMYikes, harsh!  Jones is only 30, so it's not really fair to compare him to Kyrie (33).  JSK is only 31 and been having great seasons no matter where he goes.

Jones is coming off his best season ever -- by double!  And is fairly injury-history-free.

I'm pretty sure Jones is part of the long-term plan.  Kyrie is on the outs, but only because of age & injury history.  But he's one of the smartest D on the field.

What Shay & Smith need to be doing is soaking up all the wisdom around them.  Yes, they need to get more reps -- but not if they're going to lose games for us.

I have no issues with the play of Kyrie, JSK, or Tony Jones as they are, but their days are numbered. From a logistical standpoint I don't think they should have re-signed Kyrie or brought JSK back as they are both on the tail end of their careers and there are capable younger players in house ready to fill their void.

Tony Jones is a first rate MLB, in his prime and also inexpensive enough to keep around, the pressure on him stems from 1st round pick Connor Shay, maybe it will have to come down to injury for him to get his opportunity to sink or swim. If they moved on from Tony Jones today he would be picked up by another CFL team tomorrow, the other two likely would be out of work.

Quote from: Pete on Today at 03:01:29 AMYeah when OShea starts talking about a guy(mcphee) in terms of how he likes his effort and how great a shape hes in, its almost game over He wil always go with the vet until theres almost no choice I do agree that a rookie has to earn his way onto roster but they do need the chance

In yesterdays press conference O'Shea was heaping effusive praise upon Eli, even if he does not become the starting center it's highly unlikely O'Shea would ever cut him.

Yeah, there's a zero percent chance Eli is cut. And we've know for a long time he's the likely starter. They even drafted Daniels for the express purpose of replacing his role as the "6th" man.

If TJ hit the waver wire, I would put my paycheque on the fact he'd be signed by someone with in 2 hours.
