For comparison, Edmonton seems to have become a destination for outdoor gigs.

2025
2 Morgan Wallen concerts

2026
Post Malone and Jelly Roll
AC / DC
Guns N' Roses
Foo Fighters

Bigger city with almost twice the population.  Huge stadium which allows them to draw far bigger crowds...upwards of 55,000 even if they tarp off the stands beside and behind the stage.  This means higher gate revenues which are needed  to break even with the huge concert fees charged by well-known artists.  There is also a lot more disposable income in Edmonton which allows them to charge higher average ticket prices.  Again this is needed for them to break even.

In contrast, our stadium only seats around 31,000 or so for concerts when you tarp off the sides and areas behind the stage. Our stadium actually seats less than the old dump because the Canad Inns actually had a horseshoe shape seating configuration meaning no seats had to tarped off.  Also, the stage could be placed on the old practice field allowing for upwards of 14000 or so seats at field level  ie.  The ACDC concert in 2009 at Canad Inns had an attendance of around 44,000 even though there were only 29500 seats.

People here also have less disposable income so the average ticket price has to be lower meaning the concert might not be viable with artists' high appearance fees

We haven't had a real stadium act that could actually sell out the stadium since GNR in 2017.  I remember when Wade or the board said they hoped to get 3 - 4 concert acts per year at the new stadium lol.  We're a far cry from that, that's for sure.

I hope we can find some better talent in the future.  Some will like this but not my taste.  A good money maker to be sure and hopefully fans enjoy and support it.  I am hoping to see another good show downtown outside of the Burt this year, seen the Headstones, I Mother Earth and Sloan a couple years back and that was an epic bill!  Seen Big Sugar recently at the casino and that was a great time.

@blueandgoldguy I understand the benefits Edmonton has over Winnipeg and the limitations of PA Stadium....

But, what has changed the last few years that has seen less big time concerts at the stadium?

Even with the capacity of PA Stadium it managed to host;
Taylor Swift
Paul McCartney
Beyonce / Jay-Z
One Direction
AC / DC
Guns N' Roses

Since the 2017 Guns N' Roses concert,  Regina (similar stadium size) has hosted;
The Eagles
Garth Brooks (2 shows)
Foo Fighters (upcoming)
