Blue Bombers Re-Sign Defensive Tackle Collin Kornelson

WINNIPEG, MB., January 20, 2026 –   The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Canadian defensive tackle Collin Kornelson.

Kornelson (6-2, 279; University of Manitoba; born: February 14, 2000, in Winnipeg, Mb.) returns to the Blue Bombers in 2026 for his second season after initially being selected by the club in the fifth round, 44th overall, in the 2023 Canadian Football League Draft.

He dressed for nine games in 2025 and made three defensive tackles. His CFL debut came against the B.C. Lions on June 12th last season.

A product of the Manitoba Bisons, Kornelson attended training camps with the Blue Bombers in 2023 and 2024 before returning to school. He was a second team All Canadian in 2024.

Didn't notice him much when he was playing last season before Lawson returned or after Schmeck got injured, I guess he remains the 3rd best Natl. DT on the club until supplanted.  With this signing I suspect the plan at DT is a continuation of 2 Natl + 1 Import rotation, with Woods the only holdover competing for that spot.

He has a lot to prove in TC. Really didn't show much if anything last season.

It's a now or never for him to show more this TC. Roster will most likely only have 2 Canadian DT's on the AR. Barring injury, or additions during the draft, I'd expect he'd start the season on the PR. He may have some upside otherwise why bring him back?  Logic suggests he's 3rd on the depth chart to start TC.

I do think we'll draft a DL this year but that player may be returning to university for another season. It's possible we sign another player in free agency if one is available as a needed area to upgrade.

These are the players currently pending DL free agents. I haven't checked to see which are DE versus DT.  I don't have any specific opinion or who we might consider if he reaches free agency or during tampering window. Anybody have any thoughts on that?
