Is there definitive proof Mitchell had substance use issues in college? No actual source was provided.

Looks like I scooped John Hodge by at least a few hours.  Why am I not getting paid ?  LOL...

lol

Im thinking more people might have received the article in their newsfeed if it said Winnipeg Blue Bombers receiver instead of CFL receiver.

He revealed it in an interview with Ed Tait shortly after he signed with the Bombers last spring.  Also a few reports of misbehaviour in college with the Oregon Ducks. These are issues Walters should have been aware of before signing him.

It's strange that you'd make an assumption like that.

Could you share a link to that interview?

Makes sense, and explains why he showed up to TC so out of shape. Hope he gets the help he needs

Blue In BC

Yeah, it's an issue for many players in all sports. The team may have known the issues and hoped to give him a chance to step away from his demons. It didn't work out for either side.

Now it's time for him to deal with these issues.
One game at a time.

Totally agree. I think MOS knew all about his problems and rather than cut him loose, he gave him a shot and tried to help him get on the right path. That's totally MOS.

Nice of those showing support for him.  Obviously he has found himself in a difficult phase of his life.  Hope he can get past this.  Telling regarding his performance this year.  Has some stuff to work out.

Not a fan of the kick the guy when down or on the way out.  Didn't work out and sad story.  Had skill, needs to figure out the mental side of ball and life.

Agree 100%. He needs help.

No question he needs help. Does the CFL offer a player assistance program for situations like this?

Sir Blue and Gold

Lots of folks need help but they don't lead the police on high stakes car chases endangering the lives of everyone around them.

If the Bombers knew about his issues, I am really surprised they took a flyer on him.  These are not issues this team usually cuts anyone slack on.

The fact the Mafia PO'd Lawler by signing him means he cost us more than just his not insubstantial salary, and that return on investment did not manifest.

I wish him well going forward, that he gets help and finds success in the next stage of his life.
Unabashed positron.  Blue koolaid in my fridge.  I wear my blue sunglasses at night.  Homer, d'oh.

I think the drinking problem was in college and was not ongoing when he came to the CFL, he may have relapsed recently or gotten into other drugs which is not uncommon.  Coming from where he did, it's not hard to believe he had an extremely messed up childhood, becoming an addict is not usually a rational decision.
