With that mysterious pre-seaon bonus payment I don't think there will be any teams over this season as they seem to have allowed the marketing money scam to continue as an exception.

Bombers did re-sign Oliveria, Kramdi, Lawson and Demski in December IIRC. It's reasonable to think some bonus money was from the 2025 SMS. How much is only an interesting question.

We may have had the most significant re-signings in that time frame. While we hear some contract details, most info is not public including how it breaks down for the 2026 season.

Never worry about the Bombers, Walters is a stickler at following the rules set out, it's the private owners that always seem to push the limits and create exceptions.

No worries but we hope to see money well spent from limited information.

If the Riders went over by $100K but won the Grey Cup, that might be money well spent. OTOH, if they had gone over and finished last, we might suggest money not well spent.

Obviously I have no idea whether the Riders or any team went over or how much was spent after the end of the season. It's just an example but the accounting regarding end of season versus end of year is the missing ingredient.

Payroll at the end of the season is determined very quickly. Only players making certain target bonus goals might take another week to be calculated. At that point decisions can be made on excess SMS or penalties willing to be absorbed going forward.
