Right now coaching is hurting this team.

I have pondered this for some time. Is it that we have a bad OC or rather we lack the talent to implement what the OC's game plan happens to be? IMHO it may be a little bit of both, however I am leaning toward an overall lack of talent as our major issue.

I think it's both.our OC shouldn't have been hired and our talent shelves are greatly depleted-receiver, O line and DT

I know that but they also won their game and we got embarrassed while playing badly.

Our receivers are above average when healthy
OL is average with some bad games, couple good ones.  DT needs depth refresh and one baller

We will be ready for this one and will rebound.

the thing is a good oc will tailor his schemes to maximize the effectiveness of the talent he has. Sure longer term he can ask gm to obtain certain types of players but right now with the current oline and receivers it hasn't been great

none of that is factored into the practice schedule.  it perhaps should be but it doesn't.

the lack of practice hours is a contributing factor to poor play and increased penalties.  there is a huge difference between what CFL and NFL players can practice.

Rouge2019

According to the Regina Leader Post Maier will be starting against the Bombers instead of Harris, and Oulette, Milligan, Sayles, Hardrick and four receiver starters will be out of the line-up as well.
https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/other/maier-other-backups-to-play-as-roughriders-visit-winnipeg/ar-AA1OotFW?ocid=winp1taskbar&cvid=53b7b3c68d8f4bf58f27924f8f33e4bc&ei=5

Maier isn't the only backup expected to play this week but other positions on Saskatchewan's offence could look different on Friday night as it appears running back A.J. Ouellette will be given the game off with Mario Anderson and Thomas Bertrand-Hudon expected to handle ball-carrying duties.

With American receivers KeeSean Johnson and Dohnte Meyers dealing with injuries, Shawn Bane Jr. and Joe Robustelli could draw in as starters while Canadians Samuel Emilus and Kian Schaffer-Baker could potentially sit as well. On Day 1 of practice, Ajou Ajou and Dhel Duncan-Busby got plenty of reps with the starters on Monday alongside Tommy Nield.

And along the offensive line, it appears Darius Washington could be in for Jermarcus Hardrick at right tackle while Braydon Noll could make his first career start at centre for Logan Ferland.

Defensively, it appears Saskatchewan's lineup won't look much different than it did a week ago although it appears players like halfback Rolan Milligan and cornerback Marcus Sayles could get a week off.

While this may make it a bit of an easier game for the Bombers, after last week the team really needs to get its own house in order and focus on getting the win.

We might not have the extra yards that Vaval gives us on returns if he is injured. Also, the Riders will still have a formidable front 7 on D and both Zach and Brady need better blocking to get the space to operate.  Receivers will need to step up, especially if Demski can"t play or is limited. The Bomber D should do ok.

Gotta win this one in a blowout against their garbage-season backups.  If they keep it even remotely close, or win, then it's a major embarrassment and complete proof we aren't going anywhere in the playoffs.

We need to absolutely destroy them.  If the coords can't come up with a good plan to beat them, then there's no hope.  If the players (and Zach) can't execute, then that's all she wrote.

I want 44 to 6.

With Schoen & Demski & Wheatie healthy I think our REC corps is well above average.  With Schoen out, it's still average.  With all 3 out, we're well below average.

Zach is stellar when dialed in.  Brady is stellar when he gets some OL help.

The biggest problem, as seen vs EDM, is our OL is still crap.  Sometimes they look like they're getting it together, then they pull an EDM and Zach is running for his life every single snap.

OC?  Ya, schemes are weak and there is never a plan B, or it's even worse than plan A.  They often guess wrong in the chess match (i.e. guessing when pressure is coming).  They don't seem to tailor things for the opponent.  They took until 2 weeks ago to figure out how to make a short pass work!!  That's insane.  Like 19 weeks to learn how to short pass.  That's on the coaches.

I'm disappointed we're rolling with
Stan Wall Ko Neuf Rand
when all season our top line, and my desired one was
Stan Vant Ko Neuf Loft

I think Loft is out next year, and maybe Vant.  Sad, because if Wallace has reached his ceiling already, we're screwed.  And Rand is no Yoshi, which is what we need for a top run game (see: SSK).  I think Eli is safe as jumbo.  We'll need to do some scouting and drafting to refill the hopper.

Not to be a naysayer, but Schoen doesn't exist anymore. The healthy version hasn't existed in 2 years and isn't coming back. Demski was an absolute beast this year, but looking back, a late season healthy version of him hasn't been available either. And Wheatfall has had one game over 100 yards, it was the first game. He had one game over 70 yards it was the second game. And that was it. Now he is also hurt.

What we're left with....

Yes, I doubt teams are allowed to practice without at least two days off even in a short week. That may not be true but there is an injury danger not giving time between games.

It's just been a frustrating season with injuries and an inconsistent team and coaching.

Quote from: Blue In BC on October 13, 2025, 10:16:32 PMRiders practised today. I realize they have a travel day but they are in 1st place and we're in 4th place. We weren't prepared for the game against the Elks with a short practice week coming off a bye.

They live in Saskatchewan. They might as well practice because there's nothing else to do.

How could you watch the catch Dontaria made and think our receivers are average?

😂

Demski average? Wheatfall made some highlight reel catches.

Watching the elks game highlights stearns made a tough sideline catch then out manoeuvred two elks to gain more yards.

Injured, but what teams receivers are without injuries?

I don't get it. People decide things, and then it's written in stone. No matter what happens on the field.

The lineup Sask seems to be starting is  insulting.
