Top left tackle Jarell Broxton out for B.C. Lions against Calgary
By 3Down Staff -October 3, 2025

Nathan Rourke and the B.C. Lions won't have the benefit of the CFL's top blindside protector for Saturday's meeting with the Calgary Stampeders.

Left tackle Jarell Broxton has been placed on the one-game injured list after being limited in practice by an arm injury. The 32-year-old missed the team's first meeting with Calgary two weeks ago with a foot injury and returned last week against Toronto, but was unable to finish the game.

Broxton is the top pass-blocking offensive tackle in the CFL, according to Pro Football Focus. He has allowed just eight pressures all season at a rate of 1.6 percent.

Left guard Kory Woodruff will kick out to tackle in the short term, while American Brandon Yates will make his CFL debut at guard after spending the past three weeks on the practice roster. Despite the shuffle, B.C. will dress one fewer lineman than last week, with Canadian Alex Berwick returning to the practice roster.

The Lions will get one key player back in Canadian receiver Jevon Cottoy, who has caught 44 passes for 534 yards and five touchdowns this season. Defensive tackles DeWayne Hendrix and Tibo Debaillie will both re-enter the lineup, with Tomasi Laulile out to rest a hip injury.

Hayden Harris, the 11th overall pick in the 2025 CFL Draft, will make his debut as a depth piece at defensive end after being signed earlier this week. Fellow Canadian defensive lineman Anthony Bennett and long snapper Cam Foran have been demoted to the practice roster.

The B.C. Lions (8-7) will host the Calgary Stampeders (8-6) at BC Place Stadium on Saturday, October 4 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The Stampeders suffered a one sided loss to the Montreal Alouettes this past week, while the Lions came away with a close win over the Toronto Argonauts.

The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 770 CHQR in Calgary and 730 CKNW in Vancouver.

Calgary Stampeders get Marquel Lee back against Lions, bench Adam Bighill
By 3Down Staff -October 3, 2025

The Calgary Stampeders will have longtime NFL linebacker Marquel Lee back in the starting lineup when they visit the B.C. Lions on Saturday night.

The 29-year-old native of San Diego, Calif. started the first two games of the season for Calgary at middle linebacker and recorded 15 defensive tackles. He suffered a bicep injury in Week 2, which caused him to miss the team's next 12 matchups.

The Stampeders turned to Micah Teitz and Adam Bighill to fill the void at middle linebacker, though the latter has been moved to the one-game injured list as a healthy scratch this week. The future Hall of Fame inductee has recorded eight defensive tackles and one special teams tackle through four regular-season games with Calgary this season.

Lee was originally a fifth-round pick of the Oakland Raiders in the 2017 NFL Draft. He recorded 115 total tackles, six tackles for loss, and three pass knockdowns over 45 career regular-season games with the Raiders.

The Red and White will also start Lorenzo Mauldin IV at defensive end after acquiring him from the Ottawa Redblacks via trade. The 33-year-old defender, who was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive Player in 2022, has made 163 defensive tackles, 12 special teams tackles, 36 sacks, and six forced fumbles over 90 career regular-season games.

The Stampeders have also moved quarterback Logan Bonner to the one-game injured list as a healthy scratch with 2025 CFL Draft pick Quincy Vaughn taking over third-string duties. The 24-year-old native of Brantford, Ont. has rushed for five touchdowns as a short-yardage quarterback while also playing at tight end and fullback.

Calgary is riding a three-game losing skid that has put them at risk of falling out of second place in the West Division standings if they lose this week.

The Calgary Stampeders (8-6) will visit the B.C. Lions (8-7) at BC Place Stadium on Saturday, October 4 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.

So, I guess we want BC to win ??  :-\
I feel sick saying that.
GO BLUE BOMBERS GO !

I think I prefer the Lions to lose. finishing 2nd is a long shot anyway, so that pushes the Lions further out of 3rd spot.
One game at a time.

But if the stamps keep losing, they'll fall below us. We have the series with BC and would be ahead of them if we're tied in the standings.
Just a thought.

Having the series over the Lions is why I think it's better if the Lions lose. Calgary has a game in hand and they have the series over the Bombers. Odds are better in favour of beating out the Lions.

A Calgary win means we have to win 2 of our last 3 and the Stamps would then have to lose their remaining 3 games.

Just think about the math overall.
One game at a time.

Haha, Biggie benched.  Knew it.  They started losing when he came in.

Not sure a brand n00b NFLer will get the job done either, though.

We want BC to win, as that makes 1st in the W easier for us.  SSK gonna lose, CGY gonna lose, and we'll slip into #1 after another couple of weeks.
Never go full Johnston!

Can't understand why Biggie went to the trouble of trying to revive his career at 36, he knows the business of the game and could have anticipated this end result. Makes me wonder what he's pursuing, especially when he said he has no interest in coaching.

Doesn't matter how good you're in the dressing room if you can't get the job done on the field. He should have hung them up vs tarnish his career by getting healthy scratched, that must sting, but I guess, he knows the writings on the wall in bold font when that happens.

Stats Junkie

Why doesn't 3DN do weather forecasts for BC Lions home games?

Lions have announced roof is OPEN. Currently 15 & partly cloudy, going to a high of 16, dropping to 13 by the end of the game.
