DL Jaylon Hutching, DB Adrian Greene return for Calgary Stampeders against B.C.
By 3Down Staff -September 18, 2025

The Calgary Stampeders will get two of their biggest defensive playmakers back in the lineup against the B.C. Lions on Friday.

Star defensive tackle Jaylon Hutchings returns after missing the team's last game with a groin injury. The second-year man has been a wrecking ball this season and is considered by some to be the frontrunner for Most Outstanding Defensive Player after recording 29 tackles and seven sacks in 11 games.

Also back after a five-game absence is Canadian cornerback Adrian Greene. The former Lion had a hot start to the 2025 campaign after joining the Stamps in free agency, amassing 20 defensive tackles and four interceptions through seven weeks, including one returned for a touchdown.

Unfortunately, Calgary will have one massive hole to fill following the season-ending Achilles tear suffered by all-star defensive end Folarin Orimolade. Charles Wiley will start in his place, with the recently signed Byron Vaughns and Daniel Joseph stepping into the rotation. Rookie halfback Sheldon Arnold (hand) has also been placed on the six-game injured list, with rookie Brady Breeze slated to make his first career start.

Offensively, left tackle D'Antne Demery is back after a one-game absence. His replacement, Preston Nichols, returns to the practice roster, while Canadian offensive lineman Rodeem Brown will be a healthy scratch. Veteran fullback William Langlais will return to his spot after an illness.

Also dressing this week for the Stampeders are long snapper Jason MacGougan and linebacker Morice Blackwell Jr. Long snapper Aaron Crawford (knee) has been placed on the six-game injured list, defensive end Shaun Peterson Jr. (ankle) has been placed on the one-game, and Canadian defensive back Dolani Robinson, Canadian receiver Vyshonne Janusas, and American defensive tackle Josiah Coatney have all been returned to the practice roster.

The Calgary Stampeders (8-4) will host the B.C. Lions (6-7) at McMahon Stadium on Friday, September 19 with kickoff slated for 9:30 p.m. EDT. The Lions beat Ottawa by a score of 38-27 in Vancouver this past week, while the Stampeders were on a bye week.

The weather forecast in Calgary calls for a high of 22 degrees with sunny conditions. The game will be broadcast on TSN in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 730 CKNW in Vancouver and 770 CHQR in Calgary.

CFL leading rusher James Butler, top left tackle Jarell Broxton out for B.C. Lions against Stamps
By 3Down Staff -September 18, 2025

The B.C. Lions will be short a couple of key contributors when they visit the Calgary Stampeders on Friday night.

Chief among the losses is that of running back James Butler, who has been placed on the one-game injured list with a thigh issue. The 30-year-old ball carrier is the CFL's leading rusher entering Week 16, having amassed 989 yards and 10 touchdowns on 184 carries. He has also caught 31 passes for 275 yards and another score.

Butler
will be replaced by former NFL fullback Zander Horvath, who dressed for five games as a backup earlier in the season and made just one run for four yards. However, there will be some significant changes to the blocking in front of him, as stud left tackle Jarell Broxton will also sit out this week with a foot injury. Kory Woodruff will bump out to replace him, with American rookie Ilm Manning stepping in at left guard. The Lions will also be without their top blocking receiver, as big-bodied Jevon Cottoy has been placed on the six-game injured list due to an ankle problem and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Keiran Poissant.

Defensively, the news is more positive, as recently re-signed veteran T.J. Lee is slated to make his first start of the season at boundary halfback, returning rookie Cam Stone to the practice roster. Also making their returns, albeit from injury, are starting defensive end Kemoko Turay and key rotational defensive tackle Tomasi Laulile. Global defensive tackle Tibo Debaillie (ankle) has been returned to the six-game injured list, while recently signed defensive end Bradlee Anae (shoulder) goes on the one-game.

Canadian defensive end Anthony Bennett and Global linebacker Maxime Rouyer will also draw in for special teams depth, while American defensive tackle Marcus Moore will be a healthy scratch. Perennial all-star cornerback Garry Peters remains a game-time decision with a knee injury, but is expected to play.

The B.C. Lions (6-7) will visit the Calgary Stampeders (8-4) at McMahon Stadium on Friday, September 19 with kickoff slated for 9:30 p.m. EDT. The Lions beat Ottawa by a score of 38-27 in Vancouver this past week, while the Stampeders were on a bye week.

This could be game of the week...big loss not having Butler and big gain with Hutchings returning - that dude is a beast (29 tackles and seven sacks in 11 games.)

Do the Bombers have anyone close to those numbers?

That week off for Calgary doesn't look good....  21 zip for BC at end of 1st quarter. This Ref crew is brutal.

Nope not even close.

I d go after a young stud D lineman line Hutchings or betts and let Jefferson and vaughters go. We need pressure from our front line, and we ain't getting it, so go get it for next season vs stand pat.

Adams stinking the joint out, now on the sidelines. That's the problem with him-inconsistent. When he's on, he's on, when he's bad he's really bad.

i didn't realize how fast he is with his feet, he can really move.

I think it;ll be a BC-riders west final, calgary won't get by BC

Crap, Glenn Love has ALS?  Truly horrible.  I don't remember him much, but he seemed to get around the league for many years.

I had a buddy who got ALS and it's a quick death sentence.  Almost no one gets the super extended Steven Hawking version.

If you're talking with one, remember that their brain is working 100%, it's just their muscles that don't.  So even though they sound "mentally challenged", they are not.

I wish him best of luck, pray for a miracle, and best wishes to his family working through this.

Wow.  And another arguably late hit on a QB as they take Walker out of the game too.  Dude saw the ball leave his hand.  There was zero reason to take him down at this point in the game.

This will be a fine too.  So why aren't the refs nor EITS flagging these things?

All of these hits would have been flags last season.  Why are there no flags this year?

And now BC takes out Antwi!  2 guys grab him and force him head-first to the turf.  Yes, it's legal (he's "just a RB"), but hardly necessary in a blowout with 4 min left.  BC head hunting all night.  And CGY very reserved not retaliating yet?

Of course all of these injuries will only help WPG if we have to face them in the post-season, or even allow us to catch up to 2nd place, but this is darn ugly.  I don't want to see any of this stuff.  And I really don't like how the refs/EITS aren't flagging anything at all.

How does CGY go from the level they were to this shambles of a useless team?  And this after a bye?  Dickenson The Greater losing after a bye AFTER a loss before the bye?  Unheard of when he has a good team.

And it has nothing to do with VAJ getting concussed: he was doing nothing useful before he got hit.

The real winner from CGY falling off will be SSK.  They likely win the W unless we can run the tables and SSK loses mostly everything.

I didn't watch the entire game and missed Adams and then Walker getting injured. If Adams was pulled for concussion protocol he may miss the next game? I think someone suggested that Walker's injury may have also been concussion related?

Anyone got video of either injury?
One game at a time.
