B.C. Lions lose two D-line starters, get one back for rematch with Redblacks
By 3Down Staff -September 11, 2025

The B.C. Lions will be without two more key pieces on their defensive line when they take to the field for their rematch with the Ottawa Redblacks on Friday night.

Defensive end Kemoko Turay
(ankle) and defensive tackle Tomasi Laulile (hip) have both been placed on the one-game injured list. Turay, a former NFL second-round pick, has appeared in 11 games for the Lions this season, recording 13 defensive tackles and two sacks. Laulile has suited up in seven games as a CFL rookie, recording 10 defensive tackles, a sack, and a forced fumble.

The losses come after defensive linemen Sione Teuhema and Christian Covington were lost long-term to injury last week. Levi Bell, who is playing just his second game, will get the start on the edge, backed up by recent signee Bradley Anae, who is making his CFL debut as a former fifth-round NFL draft pick.

However, the team will receive a boost from the return of defensive tackles DeWayne Hendrix and Tibo Debaillie off the injured list. Hendrix has made 12 defensive tackles and three sacks in eight appearances, while Debaillie, a Global, made six tackles and a sack through the first five games of the year. Global linebacker Maxime Rouyer (ankle) goes on the one-game injured list, allowing him to dress.

In the secondary, embattled cornerback Jalon Edwards-Cooper (thigh) has been placed on the six-game injured list, allowing rookie Cam Stone to stay on the roster. Veteran All-CFL corner Garry Peters remains a game-time decision after missing last week with a knee injury.

The B.C. Lions (5-7) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (4-8) on Friday, September 12 with kickoff slated for 10:00 p.m. EDT. The two teams met in Ottawa last week where the Redblacks completed a remarkable fourth-quarter comeback to win 34-33.

The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on TSN 1200 in Ottawa and 730 CKNW in Vancouver.

QB Dru Brown to dress as backup for Ottawa Redblacks in rematch with B.C.
By 3Down Staff -September 11, 2025

The Ottawa Redblacks are getting two key players back from injury for their rematch with the B.C. Lions, but neither of them will start.

Quarterback Dru Brown is slated to make his return to the lineup after missing the past two games with a knee injury, but has been listed as the team's third-stringer. The 28-year-old native of Palo Alto, Calif. has completed 72.7 percent of his passes for 1,842 yards, 12 touchdowns, and five interceptions over seven starts this season, but remains limited in practice. Dustin Crum will continue to start after securing his second victory of the season last week.

Defensively, DB Adrian Frye makes his return from a shoulder injury, but is listed as a backup. The 26-year-old was on a tear prior to his exit from the lineup, recording 14 defensive tackles and three forced fumbles in five games.

Also dressing this week in a depth capacity is Canadian defensive tackle Deionte Knight. Quarterback Tyrie Adams, linebacker Ayinde Eley, and Canadian defensive back Eric Cumberbatch have all been placed on the practice roster to make room for the additions.

The Ottawa Redblacks (4-8) will visit the B.C. Lions (5-7) on Friday, September 12 with kickoff slated for 10:00 p.m.

Strange, OTT beats BC last week, and bookies have BC as massive favorites?  They are more favored than HAM is vs us!

If I was OTT, when Dru's back at the helm, I'd make Crum the OTT version of "Strev in 2019".  Give him special packages, especially in the red zone.  He has a nose for escaping the pocket at the ideal gap, and he's slippery (which is odd as he's a bit of a plodder).

Brown can be dangerous coming off the bench but I see they have him listed as 3rd string which would indicate they have no intention of using him but are just fulfilling the requirement of dressing 3 QB's.

Well, now we have to watch more football with a bad taste from a bad loss in our mouths.

How does Haku miss that??  Ouch.  No wonder he's considered a 10th read NAT

Wow 2 plays into the game and the Lions D line gets a sack, that's more than we did all game. 2 plays!!!

TecnoGenius

Remember a few seasons back when we'd open up a game with a deep shot like OTT tried?  Even with Nichols we'd do this sometimes.  Make the DC think you're going to do a big air game.  Immediate loose D.

Man I'd take Crumb in a second as our backup Qb. He's soooo much better than Streveler it isn't even funny.

In a heartbeat.  Though to be fair, everyone has a better 2nd stringer than us with the exception of Calgary, Walker is worse than Strev.

CFL games always seem less fun after a bad WPG loss.  This one included.

I LOVE how JSK stopped the Flying Butler move.  He's relied on that move one too many times.  I don't think it felt to good taking that double-team hit, either.  You can get injured up there.

Stats Junkie

The final score of 38-27 is quite impressive given that BC & Ottawa combined for just 19 offensive possessions in the game. That equals the fewest number of possessions in a game dating back to 2004. 25 years ago, it was common for one team to have 19 offensive possessions in a game.

BC had 9 possessions in the game and generated 31 offensive points. Now consider that Rourke had a possession before halftime that consisted of a pair of kneel downs and a drive at the end of the game which consisted of 2 runs and a punt. 31 points in 7 normal possessions is incredible in the CFL.
