Stats Junkie

There is a penalty for illegal use of electronic equipment. The home stadium can produce noise (music, sirens, ads etc) through the speakers until the offence breaks its huddle.

Hamilton and BC have employed a half huddle this season which seems to prevent the stadium noise. The lineman assume a position on the LOS while the rest of the offence does a loose huddle in the backfield.

I thought it was until the whistle blows in?  AFAIAC as soon as the 20s clock starts all speaker noise should cease.  That's the way they do it @ PAS.

If the real rule is "until they break the huddle", then PAS needs to do what MTL is doing.  Put in real annoying noise until that huddle dissipates.  Add in an extra 1 sec for good measure.

P.S. At Mosaic Gainer's car has many a time run its sirens well into the WPG *snap* when we've played them.  Totally illegal and it drives me bonkers.

Quote from: Jesse on August 22, 2025, 02:08:16 AMI bet Wilson has more yards on his 2 attempts today than Strev has on all of his attempts this season.

Don't care.  SY is only and all about failure rate.  You need it to be max 1 a season.  It should be so automatic from 1.3Y out that you ALWAYS sneak ANYWHERE on the field.

As such Wilson's 20Y romps are fun, but just gravy.

I was disappointed we didn't go for it on 3rd & 1 to 1.5 a couple of times tonight.  I would have.  Either SY QB.

Who's better?  I think we are in a great situation where both are basically money.

Ya, worst O execution of the game, IMHO.  Had heat, but easy catch.  I think Corcoran had some jitters and butterflies.  He made a far better stab in PS.

Looks like he was trying to catch against his chest rather than trusting his hands.  Always trust your hands.  Never use the pads for a heater.

I think he'll learn.  I hope that's the last bad drop of the season.

Funny you say that, my wife, who basically never watches more than 5 mins of football at a time, said precisely that at the viewing party.  "What's wrong with that ref? Is he dead?"

I told her that's Commander Data.  For some reason tonight he looked like Data on fast-forward.  Or meth.

I still like him better than First Down Valesi...

Quote from: theaardvark on August 21, 2025, 04:37:18 PMThis is the classic trap game, where we tend to play down to the level of our opponents.

We couldn't play down to MTL.  We're firmly at their level!  For a trap game to occur, you have to be a great team.  We're mediocre at best right now... but RISING!

3Q10:55 When Theis wriggles out of a sure tackle by Kyrie.

Why isn't this blown dead?

Kyrie has both arms around and hands fully hugging Theis starting at the 52.5.  Kyrie pushes him like this all the way back to the 55.  This takes a full 1.5 secs (I checked).

Then Theis eventually wriggles free. and goes 10Y for a 1st D.

Rule 1 - Section 4 - Dead Ball:
ball is dead when ... ball carrier is tackled and the forward progress has been halted (tackling is defined as the act of grasping or encircling a ball carrier with hands and arms)

Both conditions occurred.  Refs have blown plays dead for less.  AND this exact play usually gets correctly blown dead.  It's like the ref right there is a homer and saw Kyrie has zero help and so gave Theis the time to try to escape for big free yards.

This really irritates me.  It kept MTL's 3rd Q starting drive alive on 2nd & 7 with what should have been a tackle at LoS.

So we have no RECs.  So Brady is eating them alive.  So MTL leaves Brady wide open for dump passes for half the game?  They really couldn't put a spy on him (like we usually do the RB!)?  Was Thorpe having a stroke?  Or is he really that stuck in his "system"?

It was bizarre.

Blue In BC

Ayers was getting reps on defence. I'm not sure who he replaced in those defensive sets. He had a very good game on ST's.

Weitz was on K/O returns but I didn't notice him on PR? I can't say he was bad but he was invisible on TV. Anyone see more than I did?

One game at a time.

Take the win but maaaaaaan, that was rough to watch at times last night. Seeing Morgan connect with Hollins virtually at will was brutal.

Demski seems okay, which is a huge relief. Sterns can't catch a break on the injury front; that catch he made was pretty sick.

Not gonna lie: I am super nervous about the LDC/BB.

I m not nervous at all about LDC, we're going to get pumped in Riderville!! We don't have the horses right now to keep up to Sask's offense.

The main difference is Wilson is quicker off the snap so even on plunges hes more effective. The threat of him going outside also lessens teams stacking up.
He should handle 3rd down short going forward
Strev unfortunately isn't pushing the line forward anymore, and he hesitates slightly giving the dline a chance to establish themselves

It does irk me when I see mtrl continually picking up players that can help with a proven history
While we struggle with recycled players
( Hollins the latest, Evans, Sankey, Lemon, to name some)
Anyone think Mitchell is better than Hollins?)
Hopefully Houston helps but what is it with Walters only bringing in players that have played wuth us before?

Neither.

...Montreal's defense was just tired. They've played a ton in the last few weeks. It was a short week. They have had a bye less than us and combined with good execution from the Bombers and those factors we had success.  Thorpe's a good DC.
