Quote from: markf on August 09, 2025, 01:50:27 PMReplacing Cody with Bethel Thompson was a blunder. I'm enjoying watching the result.

Teams don't plan around losing their # 1 QB to multiple injuries and going on 6 game IR. There was an SMS savings involved as well as FAJ wanting a better chance to be the # 1.

they have to plan for that, since it happens all the time. Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Wpg, Stamps, all had it this season.

Teams plan to have a # 2 QB that fits into the budget plan for their SMS. They don't plan to spend $300K for a # 2 QB as an example.

IDK what Fajardo earns but MBT is earning less and he's not expecting to become the # 1 starter unless their is an injury.

"We got a good team, we've been close...I keep telling the boys, you know what losers say? We're close"
Can you imagine having to listen to that tool "lead" your team? Good gravy!

Quote from: TBURGESS on August 09, 2025, 01:39:54 PMThe Elks didn't win so much as Montreal gave it away. That pick 6 was horrible, so was the fumbled FG return. Those 2 plays gave Edm 14 points, 17 if you include the FG that the pick 6 took away.
Don't forget the 7 points MBT left on the field when he missed the wide open receiver in the end zone on the play preceding the pick-6. That's a 14-point swing right there.

Knowing what we know about Alexander now yes it was an idiotic trade.
Season ticket holder since year 1 of the Reinbold era.

Ya, but "plan for that" means choosing among Caleb, MBT, Strev, loser-in-CGY, Masoli, Arbuckle, Cody.

Of those only Cody & Arbuckle have any pedigree.  And there's always a good chance you don't need your #2 (that's the plan anyway).  You want to spend oodles on the other 0.500 guys?

I think Mafia did it right, take the SY guy and 0.500 starter for $115k and pray for healthy Zach for the post-season.

Even Cody, the best of the above mediocres, is only 0.500 for his team, right?  We got 0.500 from our backup for 1/3 the cost.  Winning.

You mean his hammy?  Alexander is still the #1 up-n-comer QB in the league IMHO.  His hammy will heal and he'll be the best thing around come next season.

No way you keep Cody in town and make that locker room work.  It would fracture by week 3.

Just like an F1 team: you can't have 2 legit #1's on the same team (Hamilton & Alonso for McLaren anyone?).  Someone has to be worse or the human aspect blows it all up.

Right, 2 starts, 1 win, right?  Or has it been 3 starts already...

Ok, but the point remains, he'll be at least a 0.500 if he keeps playing, likely.  Or at least he SHOULD be given what he's being paid compared to all the other #2's!

3 starts, first win, first game was close, should have won the 2nd game but Julien Grant dropped the sure TD in the end zone to botch that one, and now this game.

He gives the Elks a chance to be competitive, Ford does not, plain and simple. No way no how do they even compete with Montreal with MBT playing all the game with Ford in for Edmonton, they wouldn't have got 100 yds offense.

CJ is the right move for Edmonton, and they will make things interesting for last playoff spot in the west.
