Quote from: Blueforlife on August 03, 2025, 10:43:30 PMNo need for Allen yet imo
Kelly is way ahead of him for now and he needs reps 1st
Played ok imo seen him in what looked like doube safety sets (guessing)
Not really interested in Mitchell at this stage
I want Woods on but DL was ace so maybe let that simmer 1st

We might be able to get Woods on if he's healthy because we're starting at least 8 Canadians, maybe nine if you count the DT's. At least I think I have the ratio options sorted out.

Lawson for Parker if necessary is a one for one. Same for Bryant versus one of the other OL.

It's the taking Cooley off that gives us a spot for an import. He replaced Case as the other import after we switched to 3 Canadian receivers.

I think that gives us a few options.

1. 3 import OL if they are all healthy but that's not certain.
2. Adding Woods if he's healthy
3. Adding Allen as a back up but not as a starter.
4. Adding an import receiver. Choose one. LOL
5. Leave Cooley on the AR.

Since most agree an import receiver is unlikely that leaves the other 3 options. Options 1 # 2 are dictated by health and if they aren't viable, then the other options are where we have to choose.

Of those 3 I think adding Allen is the best left available. I don't think they'd add Bridges back quite yet. Woodbey over Allen? He's more LB than DB so I don't see that happening.

All of this comes not down to need but best choice available at the moment. I'd choose 3 import OL if we have healthy bodies.

Looking at my list I think that's my ranking even though that wasn't my intent. It just worked out that way.

There used to be a guy that only posted about a terrible quarterback... demanded he played.... I forget the qb name, he was not good.

Eventually the poster wore out his welcome, (mbb) and got turfed. Which takes a lot at that forum, which tolerates a lot of b.s..

There is a strong similarity ("strevy")  to that person.

I'm going by memory, which is always dangerous at my age, but there was a poster "road griller", and if I recall he was a big fan of Justin Goltz.

Yup. Road griller. That's the person.

Strevy

Quote from: RebusRankin on August 03, 2025, 06:41:05 PMSure, I am sure Vaval can have another two return TDs and the D can add a TD as well.

Or someone else can step up.  The team is different when Streveler is under center.  No question there.  Who will be our next hero?  Stay tuned!

Quote from: Blue In BC on August 02, 2025, 03:49:17 PMJust noting that might be Hallett as his role seems less with Kelly and Ball now on the roster playing on ST's. Kelly was also playing on defence.

Nah, Hallett will remain.  How can you possibly justify Ball over Hallett?  Hallett has great top speed and maybe best-on-team burst/acceleration.  And he knows the teams real well.

Think beyond coverage.  Hallett will make the special special teams work.  That, and I see nothing to indicate he's gotten himself in the dog house.

The key to everything will be VAJ still missing.  That would be a boon for us.  The whole CGY team was discombobulated without VAJ.  Doubly so if Zach is still out.

Plus, I'd hope our coords were coming up with some special plans to attack CGY's weaknesses.  They did a pretty good job figuring out how to beat the Arbuckle dink & dunk (which will help vs SSK, too!).

Much better air quality today in Winnipeg. Should be open practice Monday and Tuesday.

I fully expect VAJ to play. Need our new look defence to shut him down and our offence to hold onto the ball.

I assumed they work Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Nothing posted yet anyway.

No coaches show tonight, that's Tuesday this week.

Easy. As I said, all of J. Jones, Kelly and Ball were on coverage teams against the Argos. I didn't say anything about being in the doghouse. I said he seems to have lost his role as a rotational player on defence and may be seeing his duty on ST's diminished. He didn't record an ST in either Argo game.

It's difficult to see who was replaced on ST's on TV but it's reasonable to think Hallett could have been one. Maybe someone at the game can give more information. Maybe he got nicked in the early going.

Either way I'm looking for which Canadian might come off if and when Makonzo is ready. IMO he is a good option to get on the AR with the ability to be a strong rotational or even starter if we have an injury. I don't think we signed him to not play when healthy.

Nothing against Hallett except succession plan and the size of the roster. I'm not specifically opposed to moving Ball back to PR but did he actually replace Hallett on St's or was this just a test? Noting he was on ST's covering J. Grant.

Normally I'd bump up the # 4 receiver choice too. If they didn't add Mitchell last week, he may never see the field. Others thought the rookie on the PR isn't ready. Using Corcoran gives us a ratio option that the import receiver doesn't.

Looking at the low productivity of our offence does make you wonder what we'll do this week if we have healthy options.

You choosing Cooley ahead of Allen is interesting. We saw that Cooley only had a couple of reps on ST's and wasn't used on offence. If they decide to get him involved on offence that might make sense. OTOH, Allen could see reps in rotation.

Although Cooley didn't do well on fielding kicks, he was on the return team that had 2 return TD's. I don't know specifically but maybe he made some good blocks to spring Vaval. That seems less probable but perhaps he did well in that aspect of play. Would be interesting to know who he replaced in that role.
