I have not and must admit I'd love to know what really happened.

Calgary kind of looks like us, failing in all 3 phases. What's going on with Paredes?

Big Daddy

Quote from: J5V on August 01, 2025, 12:57:58 AMHe knows the game, that's not the knock on him, it's the meandering all over the place often on non-football topics. He has a knack for stating the obvious and he often fails to pay enough attention to know what's going on. For example, his bewilderment on the offside call against Calgary when Brown knew he had a free shot and threw a pick. Everyone knew Calgary had jumped, except him. He's brutal.

And then Suitor talks about ending a quarter on a penalty, then at least catching himself realizing it is the half or game where you can't end on a penalty.  At least he caught it and chuckled a bit.

The Zipp

so Calgary is "human" and not grey cup champions in July...

playing Qb in the CFL is hard and when you have injuries the replacements are rarely better than the injured player.

I see quite a few of you picked Ottawa to win this one. Well done! I didn't see it coming even though Ottawa also beat them in week 3.

And suitor is wrong about that, a team can decline whatever foul was committed against them and end the half or game. It is not mandatory to redo the play

Haha - never even thought about that option!  Although technically, it still isn't ending on a penalty if the penalty is declined.  So thinking it through - the half or game still can't be ended on a penalty.

Yes it does. Say team A on offense, has too many men on the field so they draw the foul, but throw and incomplete pass, team B declines the too many men (why give them another shot at scoring) and half/game is over.

Quote from: bunker on August 01, 2025, 12:42:24 AMBrown looking pretty good. A generally good Calgary D looked like our secondary on that last TD. Adams is much better than PJ Walker although at least one incompletion was on the receiver.

Walker is the typical noob, strong-arm QB from down south: guns every throw in at full speed then wonders why half are dropped.

You need to have touch in the CFL, like BLM & VAJ and even Zach.  If the guy is wide open in the zone, you don't need to knife it in.  Feather it a bit.  Make it catchable.

In the the NFL the talent is so high those guys catch every heater, but not here.

PJ was really good on the middle throws.  He was brutal and got eaten alive on anything on the edge.  Also pretty normal of a CFL rookie, having no clue how wide the field is and how DBs can close in time.

CGY did not have a good game plan going into this game.  They basically had PJ try all of the VAJ throws/plays.  Bad move.

Quote from: Big Daddy on August 01, 2025, 12:45:52 AMCall me crazy, but is Glenn Suitor actually providing some decent commentary and analysis this game?

I don't know about Suits being better with his commentary, but is it just me or did he get a major hair dye job.  Usually dark brown now looks reddish?  Pretty sure he's too old for that.

Quote from: bunker on August 01, 2025, 01:08:59 AMIf you watch that play with Orimolade, he moved prior to the snap but did not seem to actually move his feet into the one yard restraining zone.

The rules don't really limit offside to feet.  However, they often let helmets slide.  But when half your body is over (with no feet), it's often (usually?) called.

I yelled OS live, and I confirmed it on the replay.  The live shot was better because it was more a down the line view.

Don't think I've ever seen IC called behind the LoS before!  Once in a blue moon you get a DPI call, but not IC.

Speaking of which, that was a question/beef of mine I think last year when I think SSK was ICing our screen guy behind the LoS.  They didn't call anything that time.

I got the feeling refs were really helping out OTT tonight.  Tons of iffy ICs: probably 3X more ICs than CGY has ever gotten flagged for this season in a single game.

I can understand CGY's O looking bad.  No qb.  2/3rds of the real RECs out.  OTT saying "no run".

But why did CGY's D look so bad?  This is still OTT they were facing.  I just don't get it.

The ToP was pretty even, so there's no "tired" excuse.  This is the CGY D that even the best teams had trouble moving the ball against.  This is the CGY D that made us a laughing stock.

So how could this D suddenly be so bad that OTT(!!) was effortlessly moving the ball for TDs (until OTT shifted to prevent-O)?  OTT!  Once again: OTT!

Agree and one of my peeves is due to my belief (tinfoil hat time) that the officials think it is their job to call the game ensuring a level of "parity" across the league. We've been victim of that many times in the last 5 years, IMO.
