Veteran centre Peter Godber to make Ottawa Redblacks debut against Calgary
By 3Down Staff -July 30, 2025

Veteran centre Peter Godber will make his debut with the Ottawa Redblacks when they host the Calgary Stampeders on Thursday night.

The 31-year-old blocker signed with the Redblacks as a free agent in February after spending the last two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, starting 27 games at centre. The native of Toronto, Ont. was originally a first-round pick in the 2018 CFL Draft out of Rice University and dressed for 44 regular-season games with the B.C. Lions.

The Redblacks had Jacob Ruby start the first seven games of the season at centre but he has now been moved to a depth role behind Dariusz Bladek at right guard. Right tackle Zack Pelehos will be a game-time decision after being a limited participant in practice this week due to a foot injury.

Ottawa has also placed veteran defensive tackle Cleyon Laing on the one-game injured listed. Former second-round draft pick Daniel Okpoko will start in his place, though he has been listed as a game-time decision due to an ankle injury.

Veteran receiver Bralon Addison and cornerback C.J. Coldon will return to the lineup after stints on the injured list. Addison has caught 21 passes for 220 yards and one touchdown over four games this season, while Coldon made 22 defensive tackles, one special teams tackle, and two interceptions over six starts.

The Ottawa Redblacks (1-6) will host the Calgary Stampeders (5-2) at TD Place Stadium on Thursday, July 31 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT. The Stampeders are coming off a narrow home loss to the Montreal Alouettes, while the Redblacks were on a bye week.

The weather forecast in Ottawa calls for a high of 24 degrees and sunny conditions. The game will be broadcast on TSN and RDS in Canada and CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune-in on 770 CHQR in Calgary and TSN 1200 in Ottawa.

Calgary Stampeders to start P.J. Walker, move Vernon Adams Jr. to one-game injured list
By 3Down Staff -July 30, 2025

P.J. Walker will make his first career regular-season CFL start on Thursday night when the Calgary Stampeders visit the Ottawa Redblacks.

The longtime NFL journeyman entered last week's loss to the Montreal Alouettes and completed three-of-seven pass attempts for 20 yards in a relief effort. He dressed as the backup to Vernon Adams Jr. for the first seven games of the season.

The 30-year-old made nine starts in the NFL as a member of the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns, posting a 5-4 record while throwing for 2,135 yards, six touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. In 2020, he led the XFL in passing yards and passing touchdowns as a member of the Houston Roughnecks, amassing 1,338 yards, 15 touchdowns, and four interceptions in five games.

On Tuesday, head coach and general manager Dave Dickenson indicated the team was "still holding out hope" that Adams Jr. would play. The veteran quarterback exited last week's loss to the Montreal Alouettes late in the third quarter after scrambling for a seven-yard gain. The 32-year-old took a glancing blow to the head as he was sandwiched between linebackers Darnell Sankey and Tyrice Beverette and was pulled by the concussion spotter.

Adams Jr., who has been moved to the one-game injured list, has thrown for 1,913 yards, nine touchdowns, and six interceptions this season, his first in Calgary. He has also rushed for 139 yards and one score. The passer was a limited participant in practice on Sunday and Tuesday and a non-participant on Monday.

The Stampeders have also moved starting Canadian receivers Jalen Philpot (hamstring) and Damien Alford (hamstring) to the one-game injured list. Former NFL receiver Daylen Baldwin will start in place of Philpot at field-side slotback, while Vyshonne Janusas will start at the other field-side slotback position. The five-foot-ten, 221-pound native of Windsor, Ont. was a fifth-round pick in the 2025 CFL Draft out of the University of Guelph.

Adrian Greene, who has recorded four interceptions at field-side cornerback this season, is listed as a game-time decision due to a lower leg injury. Joshua Coker will return to his starting spot at right tackle after being unable to play in last week's loss to Montreal.

The Calgary Stampeders (5-2) will visit the Ottawa Redblacks (1-6) at TD Place Stadium on Thursday, July 31 with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. EDT. The Stampeders are coming off a narrow home loss to the Montreal Alouettes, while the Redblacks were on a bye week.

Woe-woe-wee-woe!  PJ Walker doesn't know what he's seeing yet, look for the Stamps to go all in on running the ball.

How many times have we seen this in the last 2 seasons.  Top-3 team loses their QB and they easily beat down inferior teams.  Ok, normally it's not a nobody raw CFL rookie like CGY seems to have thought was the ticket as the backup this season (probably just no money left!)...

I remember MTL and TOR winning games everyone thought would be lost when their QB went down (cough cough GC anyone?).  The top level teams not only find a way, they usually clobber the weaklings.  CGY is THE top level team.  (for the time being...)

Besides, what's the O/U on Q's until Dru gets IRd again, eh?

Late roster move by @calstampeders.  DB Adrian Greene has been moved to the one-game injured list. DB Dolani Robinson has been activated from the practice roster. DB Godrey Onyeka starts in Greenes' spot

Crum caught a pass a receiver. Havent seen 2 QBs used too much since they changed the rules.

Strevy did have to line up as receiver in tele past due to injuries.

TecnoGenius

Parades can't kick long, never could.

Should have taken the under.  This is one of those games... A team with a half decent O but no D, and a team with no O and an unmovable D.

Stalemate.

PJ is looking not too shabby so far.  At least better than his relief attempt last week.  But run the darn ball more CGY!!!!

Mills enters the game at 8:00 Q1.  What's up with that?  Antwi won't do anything, at least not until the D is tired.

Wow, OTT is stuffing the box and prioritizing run.  They aren't stupid.  If CGY can't run then PJ will have to make some passes.  Then give him more screens and curls.

Although he has 2 nice mid zone hits already!  He seems unable to grok the outside angle throws, so keep it in the middle.

OTT will be in trouble if this new dude can connect on the deep shots.
Never go full Rider!
