The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed wide receiver Max McLeod to the practice squad on Sunday according to the CFL Transactions page.

Max McLeod is six foot three and weighs 200 pounds. A native of Seattle, Washington, McLeod attended the Denver Broncos rookie minicamp in 2025.

Collegiately, McLeod played four seasons at the Colorado School of Mines (2021-24) making 290 catches for 4,688 yards, 54 touchdowns, five carries for 29 yards, one rushing touchdown, three tackles (3 solos), and one fumble recovery in 56 games for the Mines Orediggers.

In 2024, he made 72 catches for 1,078 yards, 10 touchdowns, and one tackle (1 solo) in 11 games. He ranked in the NCAA D-II top-20 in receiving yards (9th, 1,078), yards per game (10th, 98.0), receptions per game (8th, 6.5), and receiving TDs (18th, 10).

He was named a two-time First Team All-NFFCC All-Colorado, three-time First Team All-RMAC, First Team All-American, and Second Team All-American by Don Hansen, AFCA, Associated Press, and D2football.com.

McLeod finished his career as the all-time record holder in yards, second in Mines and RMAC history. He had more career yards than any D-II player since 2008.

Great news.  We're seeing what the big RECs are doing in CGY, BC and other teams.  They are giants swatting at flies.

I wonder who is getting cut on the PR to make room... finally the end of D.Mitchell?  I would think Case did enough to get a few more tries, seeing as how he got a TD.

This is kind of a rare move for us, midseason, eh?

Oh ya, now for the bad news: this almost certainly means Schoen is 6GIR and maybe season-ended.

We now have no top-5 REC, and probably not a top-10 either.  Ya, Demski is high on the stats list right now, but almost certainly won't end the season that way.

Great that we're bringing in a new guy, but he probably won't be an instant success like Schoen was.  Even Pokey took half a season to get real hot.

I think no one.  We are down a guy because of the Schoen injury.

I like his size but he is as raw as they come. Pretty odd midseason pickup since he is not game ready. Luckily he probably has 6 weeks here to learn the Canadian game.

Players are added to the PR all the time - especially when injuries free up spots. Not a for this year type of move.
My wife is amazing!

Not even a 3rd into the season, this is a good pickup with the DS83 injury. Tall RW with 4:54 speed, 33 vertical, and good hands. Nice signing.

Nice didn't see this coming!  But agree means Schoen is out at least medium term.

6'1" or 6'3"??

First post says 6'3", Bomber release says 6'1"...in reality he is prob barely 6' tall...

Blue In BC

Elsbury going to retired list probably means Lofton will be back after his 6 game stint. Whether he's on the AR or 1 game IR is a TBD I suppose. It might also indicate that Bryant may be back this week and not headed to 6 game IR etc.

Huh, didn't even notice him in pre-season but he must have impressed, with Lofton, Randolph and Vanterpool ahead of him it would have been a long wait. Probably not willing to make the crazy sacrifices in time and lost income it takes to establish a pro football career.

Retiring means he'd still belong to Bombers in theory. He didn't get released per se. In that sense he might get another chance in 2026 to attend TC and try to win a spot again. All of our import OL are potential free agents, so that could change his situation.

He did play in pre season I think he didn't do too badly.

As far as McLeod, I think there is a shorter learning curve for a WR than a SB, so he might see some action in 2025.

not really - from google (and generally known fact):

Athlete height listings are often inaccurate, with a tendency for players to be listed as taller than they actually are, especially in sports like basketball and football. This can be due to a variety of factors, including players being measured with shoes on, players growing after being initially measured, or intentional exaggeration for various reasons, such as perceived competitive advantage.
