QB Jake Maier to start for Saskatchewan Roughriders, Trevor Harris ruled out against B.C. Lions
By 3Down Staff -June 27, 2025

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have officially ruled out starting quarterback Trevor Harris for their Week 4 matchup with the B.C. Lions, placing him on the one-game injured list.

The 39-year-old passer missed practice on Tuesday and Wednesday due to a head/illness designation but was a full participant on Thursday, as per the team's official report. On Wednesday, head coach Corey Mace confirmed the health issue was concussion-related after Harris took a high hit from defensive lineman Jordan Williams in last week's win over Toronto. Williams was fined for the hit on Thursday.

Veteran backup Jake Maier will get the start for the Riders after being acquired via trade this offseason. The 28-year-old has appeared in 66 career CFL games, all with the Calgary Stampeders, and had been that team's starter since mid-way through the 2022 season. He finished his tenure in Calgary having thrown for 11,685 yards, 60 touchdowns, and 39 interceptions.

In a corresponding move, Saskatchewan activated Jack Coan off the one-game in order to back up Maier.

On the other side of the ball, Canadian linebacker Melique Straker will miss this week with a thigh injury, while American defensive tackle Caleb Sanders will be a healthy scratch. American defensive back Antoine Brooks Jr. and Canadian defensive lineman Benoit Marion will dress in a depth capacity.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-0) will host the B.C. Lions (1-2) at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, June 28 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT. The weather forecast calls for a high of 24 degrees with a 40 percent chance of showers and a risk of thunderstorms.

The game will be broadcast on TSN and CTV in Canada, CBS Sports Network in the United States, and can be streamed on CFL+ internationally. Radio listeners can tune in on 980 CKNW in Vancouver or 620 CKRM in Regina.

Canadian QB Nathan Rourke game-time decision as B.C. Lions starter vs. Riders
By 3Down Staff -June 27, 2025

The B.C. Lions have listed Nathan Rourke as a game-time decision to start against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday.

The Canadian quarterback was a limited participant in practice all week and took no reps with the starting unit on Thursday. He is attempting to return from an oblique injury that caused him to miss last week's game.

The 27-year-old started B.C.'s first two games of the season, leading the team to a win over Edmonton in Week 1 and a loss to Winnipeg in Week 2. He has thrown for 573 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception and rushed 11 times for 112 yards and one score so far this season.

If Rourke is unable to go, veteran backup Jeremiah Masoli is expected to take the reins for a second consecutive week. In roughly five quarters of relief action this season, the 36-year-old has completed 32-of-54 passes for 365 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions.

Neither quarterback is expected to have the same level of protection, as the Lions have placed prized offseason acquisition Dejon Allen on the six-game injured list. The all-star right tackle and former Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman winner suffered an arm injury last week that will hold him out long term. American Chris Schleuger will get the start in that spot, while former first-round pick Anu Una returns from a preseason injury as extra insurance.

On the other side of the line of scrimmage, defensive tackle Jonah Tavai has been placed on the one-game injured list with a calf issue and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Marcus Moore. Rookie safety Jackson Findlay and returner Seven McGee will also be unable to dress with hamstring issues, leaving return duties to the recently signed Phillip Brooks.

The B.C. Lions (1-2) will visit the Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-0) at Mosaic Stadium on Saturday, June 28 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m.

B.C. Lions name QB Jeremiah Masoli starter, will sit Nathan Rourke vs. Riders

By 3Down Staff -June 28, 2025

The B.C. Lions didn't need until game time to make their quarterback decision, naming Jeremiah Masoli the starter with just over two hours to go until kickoff against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Canadian quarterback Nathan Rourke was initially listed as the starter with a game-time decision designation, but will now drop down to become the third-stringer for a second consecutive game. He was a limited participant in practice all week and took no reps with the starting unit on Thursday while recovering from an oblique injury.

The question is not what's your faith in Masoli, the question is what's your faith in Maier being better than Masoli...

This one is a tough call for me.  If it was being played in BC I'd be a lot more confident.

But never underestimate Maier's ability to completely screw everything up.  As we saw last night in HAM, QB is *everything*.
Never go full Rider!

Blue In BC

A win by the Lions helps the Bombers. We'd remain the only undefeated team and would be in 1st place in the WFC. A loss by the Riders is never a bad thing.
One game at a time.

Weird to see Maier in green.
