Bombers move Karamoko to the practice roster and add Jeremy Murphy to the active roster (per CFL)
So Murphy will play Saturday (almost certainly).

Now to see the two 🇺🇸 players they add for Schoen & Wheatfall. My guess: LB Tony Jones & WR Myron Mitchell.

Curious to see if perhaps LB Tony Jones comes onto the roster this week. Souleymane Karamoko played 0 snaps on defense vs BC.

All-star DB Deatrick Nichols back for banged-up Bombers

By 3Down Staff -June 28, 2024

There hasn't been much in the way of good news for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of late but the team will get a big boost in their secondary against the Calgary Stampeders.

Two-time CFL all-star Deatrick Nichols will return to his usual boundary halfback spot after missing last week with a shoulder injury. His replacement Week 3 replacement, Marquise Bridges, will remain on the roster in a backup capacity while Global linebacker Souleymane Karamoko comes off due to injury.

The native of Miami, Fla. has made 128 defensive tackles, four special teams tackles, four interceptions, one sack, and one forced fumble over 49 career games since joining the Blue Bombers as a free agent in 2021.

On the other side of the ball, the team won't be so lucky. Following the devastating news on Thursday that leading receiver Dalton Schoen will be out for the remainder of the season, rookie Keric Wheatfall (knee) was also placed on the six-game injured list. The pair join all-star Kenny Lawler, who has been missing since Week 1 with a fractured arm.

Canadians Nic Demski and Drew Wolitarsky are the only veterans remaining in the receiving corps, with the next most experienced player being American Ontaria Wilson with three starts to his name. Second-year Canadian Jeremy Murphy will draw into the lineup, as will American rookie Josh Johnson.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-3) will visit the Calgary Stampeders (1-1) on Saturday, June 29 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Canadian safety Malcolm Thompson draws start for Stampeders vs. Bombers
By 3Down Staff -June 28, 2024

The Calgary Stampeders will have a slightly different look on the back end this week, flipping their ratio for a Canadian safety.

Rookie American Bentlee Sanders (shoulder), who has recorded six tackles through two games, will not be available this week. Instead, Malcolm Thompson will assume the starting role in his place.

The five-foot-11, 193-pound safety signed with the Stampeders last September and went on to play in four regular-season games, recording one defensive tackle and one special-teams stop. He has equalled that production in two games this year.

The undrafted free agent out of Wilfrid Laurier University originally signed with the Stampeders ahead of the cancelled 2020 season but failed to make the team's roster the following year. He later played two games with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and had a stint with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2022, starting seven games for the club and finishing with 23 defensive tackles and five special teams tackles in 10 total appearances.

Veteran homegrown defensive back Nick Statz will also draw into the lineup to provide insurance, while rookie first-round pick Ben Labrosse is listed at backup halfback for a third straight week.

Calgary will also be missing a pair of Canadian defensive linemen this week, as defensive tackle Kwadwo Boahen (back) and special teams standout Kelon Thomas (head/shoulder) have both been placed on the one-game injured list. 2024 third-round pick George Idoko draws into the lineup at defensive end but will primarily contribute on special teams. Meanwhile, American rookie Josiah Coatney will make his first start at defensive tackle and bump Charles Wiley to backup.

Offensive tackle Trevon Tate and receiver Tre Dukes remain the team's two healthy scratches.

The Calgary Stampeders (1-1) will host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-3) on Saturday, June 29 with kickoff slated for 7:00 p.m. EDT.

Kody back on Case for Winnipeg Blue Bombers

By 3Down Staff -July 2, 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have brought back receiver Kody Case, who was released by the team during training camp.

The five-foot-ten, 182-pound target played his final collegiate season at the University of Illinois, seeing action in four games as a kick returner. He was signed by the Indianapolis Colts after going unselected in the 2023 NFL Draft but was waived following training camp.

Case spent the previous five years at the University of South Dakota where he caught 82 passes for 1,157 yards and nine touchdowns in 32 games. He reportedly ran a 4.44-second forty-yard dash at his pro day in March 2023.

The native of Lake City, Ia. caught one pass for four yards and returned one kickoff for 24 yards in preseason action with the Blue Bombers.

NEED TO KNOW WEEK 5
JULY 2, 2024  Ed Tait

GET LUCKY?:
No sign of WR Lucky Whitehead at practice Tuesday and there's no indication of when he'll even be in Winnipeg. The team has yet to formally announce his addition, first reported by TSN's Farhan Lalji and confirmed by the receiver himself on social media Saturday after the game in Calgary.

With Kenny Lawler, Dalton Schoen and Keric Wheatfall all on the six-game injured list the Blue Bombers starting receiving corps against the Stamps consisted of veterans Nic Demski and Drew Wolitarsky, second-year Canadian Jeremy Murphy and CFL rookies Pokey Wilson and Josh Johnson. Murphy was injured in the game and replaced by Kevens Clercius.

The club did re-sign receiver/returner Kody Case, injured in camp, and added him to the practice roster this week and Myron Mitchell and Ravi Alston are also available. The receiving corps on Tuesday featured Demski, Wolitarsky, Wilson, Johnson and Clercius, with Case, Mitchell and Alston also getting reps.

FYI: Also not practising on Tuesday beside Collaros and Murphy were DB Evan Holm and OL Tui Eli while DE TyJuan Garbutt, who is on the six-game injured list, was back as a full participant... O'Shea when asked if the closes losses of late — three by a combined total of nine points — were taking a toll: "I imagine. But by toll, do you mean does it accumulate? I don't think so. They're pretty good at getting rid of it. I mean, in any contact sport, you better move on and have your focus on the task at hand or else somebody's going to whack ya. So I don't think a tight loss, or a big loss... you just can't afford to hang onto them for too long."

Winnipeg Blue Bombers list Chris Streveler as starter vs. Ottawa Redblacks
By John Hodge -July 4, 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have listed Chris Streveler as their starting quarterback for Friday's game against the Ottawa Redblacks.

The 29-year-old completed 14-of-24 pass attempts for 170 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in relief of Zach Collaros in last week's loss to the Stampeders. Collaros, who missed practice this week due to a thorax injury, is listed as the third-string quarterback behind Streveler and rookie Terry Wilson.

The six-foot-one, 216-pound passer hasn't started a game since rejoining Winnipeg following a four-year run in the NFL. He has thrown for 2,868 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions over 39 career CFL games, going 4-8 as a starter. The native of Crystal Lake, Ill. has also carried the ball 233 times for 1,257 yards and 26 touchdowns.

Winnipeg has made one change to its receiving corps as Kevens Clercius will make his first career start. The six-foot-two, 217-pound native of Montreal, Que. was the No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 CFL Draft out of the University of Connecticut. He has caught four passes for 43 yards in a depth role so far this season.

The Blue Bombers have also promoted fullback Michael Chris-Ike and receiver Myron Murphy to the active roster, while moving receiver Jeremy Murphy and defensive back Marquise Bridges to the practice roster. The rest of the club's roster remains unchanged from last week's game against the Calgary Stampeders.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-4) will host the Ottawa Redblacks (2-1) on Friday, July 5 with kickoff slated for 8:30 p.m. EDT.

Redblacks flying without Dutchman Tyron Vrede vs. Bombers
By 3Down Staff -July 4, 2024

The Ottawa Redblacks will be relatively healthy for their Week 5 rematch with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Global linebacker Tyron Vrede (hip) is the lone absence this week, being placed on the one-game injured list. The veteran Dutchman has two special teams tackles in two games this season and will be replaced by second-year Canadian James Peter.

Safety Ty Cranston (ankle) will also extend his stay on the one-game, while linebacker Silas Stewart, offensive lineman Dontae Bull, and receiver Kalil Pimpleton will be healthy scratches. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, running back Devonte Williams, defensive lineman Kene Onyeka, and defensive backs Alijah Mcghee, Brandin Dandridge, and Money Hunter all remain on the six-game injured list.

The Redblacks have already faced the Bombers once this season, securing a 23-19 victory. This game will mark quarterback Dru Brown's official return to Winnipeg, where he spent the first three seasons of his career as a backup. Through three games this season, he has completed 65-of-107 pass attempts for 795 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.

The Ottawa Redblacks (2-1) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (0-4) on Friday, July 5 at 8:30 p.m. EDT.

BLUE BOMBERS ADD RECEIVER LUCKY WHITEHEAD TO PRACTICE ROSTER

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American receiver Lucky Whitehead to the practice roster.

Whitehead (5-10, 177, Florida Atlantic; born: June 2, 1992, in Manassas, VA.) returns to the Bombers for a second stint after spending the past three seasons (2021-2023) with the BC Lions. Since his arrival to the CFL in 2019, Whitehead has recorded 248 receptions for 3,192 yards, 15 rushes for 118 yards, and 13 touchdowns in 58 CFL games, all starts.

In his first season with the Blue Bombers, Whitehead etched 521 yards on 52 catches and three touchdowns, 92 yards on nine rushes and one touchdown, and one kickoff return touchdown in 15 starts, ending the 2019 season as a Grey Cup champion.

His 2021 campaign with BC saw him earning CFL All-Star status after recording 60 catches for 932 yards and four touchdowns in just 12 games.

Prior to coming to the CFL, Whitehead was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys (NFL) in 2015. Over the next two seasons, Whitehead dressed for 30 NFL games, starting in two, and recorded nine receptions for 64 yards, and 20 rushes for 189 yards. He joined the New York Jets' practice roster before being released in 2018.

The team has also released American defensive end Ali Fayad.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers list Zach Collaros as starter vs. Calgary Stampeders

By 3Down Staff -July 11, 2024

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have listed Zach Collaros as their starting quarterback for Friday's game against the Calgary Stampeders.

The two-time CFL Most Outstanding Player missed last week's win over the Ottawa Redblacks due to a thorax injury. Before the game, head coach Mike O'Shea said Collaros was close to being ready to go but felt it was "not the right move" for him to play. He sustained the injury the week prior in Cowtown on a hit from Josiah Coatney.

The 35-year-old passer has completed 62.3 percent of his passes for 796 yards and four interceptions through four starts this season.

Canadian receiver Kevens Clercius will make his second career start at field-side wide receiver, while Canadian defensive end Owen Hubert will make his first career start at defensive end following the release of Ali Fayad. Hubert was an eighth-round pick in the 2024 CFL Draft out of McMaster University who made three tackles and one tackle for loss during last week's win in a rotational role.

Austria native Lucky Ogbevoen, who was selected in the second round of the 2024 CFL Global Draft, will dress for his first career CFL game as a depth defensive end.

This is the second and final meeting of the regular season between the Stampeders and Blue Bombers, which means the season series will be decided on Friday. Calgary won the first matchup between the two teams two weeks ago by a score of 22-19.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1-4) will host the Calgary Stampeders (2-2) at Princess Auto Stadium on Friday, July 12 with kickoff slated for 8:30 p.m. EDT.

RB Dedrick Mills returns for Stampeders vs. Blue Bombers
By 3Down Staff -July 11, 2024

The Calgary Stampeders will have their top running back return to the lineup when they face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers but have lost their top backup long-term.

After missing last week with an oblique injury, Dedrick Mills will be back in the lineup for the Stampeders. The 27-year-old has carried the ball 40 times for 184 yards so far this season, adding 10 receptions for 135 more through the air. In 24 career games, he has amassed 1,445 rushing yards and 363 receiving yards, as well as six touchdowns.

Backup B.J. Emmons (hamstring) has been placed on the six-game injured list after going down late in the Week 5 loss to Montreal. Through four games, he posted 16 carries for 44 yards and five catches for 56 yards. Peyton Logan, who ran for 65 yards on six carries in his first appearance last week, remains on the roster as the secondary back.

Also out of the lineup this week is rookie Canadian defensive back Ben Labrosse (ankle), who has been placed on the one-game injured list. The fourth overall pick in the 2024 CFL Draft has two total tackles in his career and will be replaced with local product Nick Statz.

Left tackle D'Antne Demery (toe) has been listed as a game-time decision. If he is unable to go, Trevon Tate is expected to be activated after serving as a healthy scratch all season. American receiver Tre Odoms-Dukes continues to be the other healthy scratch.

The Calgary Stampeders (2-2) will visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (1-4) on Friday, July 12 at 8:30 p.m. EDT.
