Blue Bombers transactions - June 12, 2023

WINNIPEG, MB., June 12, 2023 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce today that American defensive back Brad Muhummad and American defensive tackle Miles Fox have been added to the club?s practice roster.

Muhammad (5-10, 189; Florida International; born: July 18, 1995, in St. Petersberg, FL.) joins the Blue Bombers after 16 starts with the Calgary Stampeders in 2022 in which he recorded 50 defensive tackles, 10 pass breakups, two interceptions, five special teams tackles, one forced fumble and a tackle for loss.

Muhammad played five games with the Ottawa Redblacks in 2021 and posted 14 defensive tackles, and two tackles for loss. Before coming to the CFL, Muhammad had stints with the Cedar Rapids River Kings of the Indoor Football League and won a championship with the Albany Empire of the now National Arena League.

Fox (6-1, 297; Wake Forest University; born: January 23, 1997, in Lawrenceville, GA.) comes to the Bombers after dressing for three games last year with the BC Lions, recording three tackles.

Fox had a six-year collegiate career with Old Dominion (2015-2018) and Wake Forest (2020 and 2021). In 52 games, Fox recorded 174 defensive tackles, 84 solo tackles, 90 assists, 35 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, and 14 sacks.

The club has also released defensive back Matt Cole and American defensive tackle Caleb Thomas.

Surprised about Thomas. That being said, pre-season isn?t always an indicator of anything. Like the addition of Muhammad, adds some experience to our depth.

Very surprised about Thomas to be honest. I thought he was going to be our future at that spot.
Maybe he had another opportunity elsewhere?
I feel like 2 sacks and a blocked kick in 2 preseason games should get you recognition.

TBURGESS

I was surprised that Calgary cut Muhammad & happy that we picked him up.

Im not sure why we haven't grabbed Lemon.  I know he is a big personality, and not sure how he and Willie will gel, but with Jeffcoat on the hobble, I can't see any reason not to 6 game Jeffcoat and bring in Lemon, and deal with the fallout in 6 games...  Is Lemon hesitant to sign knowing when Jeffcoat gets better he comes back in?  But even then...

Can you imagine a Dline of Jefferson, Jeffcoat, Thomas and Lemon?  Or the Cheetah alignments?

SSK/EDM were starting 3 DT's on their DLines... weird.

Looks like poor roster management to me, they pushed him aside and handed Schmekel his game cheque.  Thomas obviously earned a spot in training camp and probably knows it, wouldn't be surprised to see him pop up on another CFL's teams roster very shortly.

Muhammad definitely has good physical size, looks like Holms will be the odd man out, with Rose and Parker yet to be accomodated.

$$$. Lemon probably still want more money then we have to spend.

Sorry, Holms ain't going anywhere.  Its going to take a really bad game to lose him a spot.  Coach Oshea says he has the best feet he's ever seen.  That does not get cut in favour of a CGY cut.

With Lawler suspended and Jeffcoat on the 6 game, use their more than ample paychecks to pay Lemon, and sort it out if/when Jeffcoat returns to the roster.  By then, we may have another large salary cut or 6 gamed.

Wouldn't be too surprised if Thomas is back on the PR at some point. We are deep at DB. Our DB depth is like Hammy's D-line depth. I also wouldn't be surprised if we see a few more D-line added over the next few weeks.

Rose and Parker are both in 6-game. After that might need to recondition before getting into the lineup. Muhammad went to battle vs Schoen last year. He has the sane physicality as Parker. Holms stays since he can do KR too. If anything, Rose will be the odd man out, I think.

That wouldn't surprise me either, he could be a very good trade asset out East once he returns to health.  Focused on Hamilton as they have the most D-line assets and their secondary sucks.

If our DB group keeps working well as it is, Rose and Parker could be casualties of $SMS... especially if we pick up a DE..

Parker is not commanding a big $ so he will be kept. Rose on the other hand...

Rose will be interesting. Parker, absolutely 0 reason to cut bait. Rose on the other hand, if Houston and Lawrence keep performing well, could be a name to move.
