This weekend the "communication window" opens.  I imagine a lot of players/agents are waiting to get a glimpse of what they are worth on the open market... it will be interesting to see if after that window opens we get a flurry of signings or everything waits for FA day...

BLUE BOMBERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH RECEIVER DREW WOLITARSKY

WINNIPEG, MB., January 31, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension with Canadian receiver Drew Wolitarsky, who was scheduled to become a free agent next week.

Wolitarsky (602, 225; University of Minnesota; born: March 22, 1995, in Santa Clarita, CA) returns to the Blue Bombers for a fifth season in 2022.

He dressed and started all 14 regular-season games in 2021, plus the Western Final and the 108th Grey Cup victory and finished with 32 receptions for 386 yards and one touchdown. He added six more catches in the two playoff games, including a Grey Cup performance in which he pulled in four passes for 48 yards - all of them in the club's fourth-quarter rally.

Wolitarsky was chosen by the club in a 2017 Canadian Football League Supplemental Draft, with the club forfeiting a third-round selection in the 2018 CFL Draft to select him.

He made his CFL debut on October 6th, 2017, and has suited up for 54 games over his first four seasons, with 111 career receptions for 1,412 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Wolitarsky finished his days at the University of Minnesota tied for eighth all-time in receptions with 130 and was named an All-Big Ten Third-Team All-Star Academic All-Big Ten as a senior. He was also named an Academic All-Big Ten in 2014, his sophomore season.

BLUE BOMBERS AGREE TO TERMS ON ONE-YEAR EXTENSION WITH OFFENSIVE LINEMAN MICHAEL COUTURE

WINNIPEG, MB., January 31, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with centre Michael Couture.

Couture
(6-4, 305; Simon Fraser University; born: February 7, 1994 in Burnaby, B.C.) returns to the Blue Bombers for his sixth season in Winnipeg.

A second-round selection by the Blue Bombers in the 2016 CFL Draft, 10th overall, Couture has appeared in 86 regular season games since his arrival - including all 14 in 2021 as well as the Western Final and 108th Grey Cup victory.

Couture became the team's starting centre at the start of the 2019 season and has been a steady presence in the middle of the best offensive line in the league.

The Bombers led the CFL in scoring in 2021 and finished second in rushing while surrendering the fewest quarterback sacks.

His work was recognized by his peers, as he was named to the 2021 CFL Players' Association All-Star Team.

Couture played four seasons at Simon Fraser, making 36 starts over that span. He showed great versatility during his career, spending time at four different positions on the offensive line, and was a Great Northwest Conference First Team All-Star at centre in 2014 and at tackle in 2015.

Couture takes less to stay with #Bombers. 1 year deal for 180k. Being told his hometown #BCLions had offered closer to 200k.

Sounds like Rose is back too... really shaping up to be a banner off season for a GC champion team... we will lose some players, to NFL and overpaying CFL teams... but we've weathered that storm before, and will again...

BLUE BOMBERS AGREE TO TERMS ON ONE-YEAR EXTENSION WITH DEFENSIVE BACK WINSTON ROSE

WINNIPEG, MB., February 1, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American cornerback Winston Rose to a one-year contract extension.

He was scheduled to become a free agent next week.

Rose
(6-0, 171; New Mexico State; born: November 29, 1993, in Inglewood, CA) returns in 2022 for a third season with the Blue Bombers and his fourth in the Canadian Football League.

The league's interception leader and a CFL All-Star in 2019, Rose turned that success into a contract with the Cincinnati Bengals that winter, officially signing with the National Football League squad on December 31, 2019.

He spent most of 2020 on the Bengals' practice roster but did suit up for two regular season games. Rose was waived and added to Cincinnati's practice roster at the end of training camp in 2021 before being released on September 6th.

The cornerback returned to the CFL and the Blue Bombers on October 20th last fall and started the final three regular season games and both the Western Final and the 108th Grey Cup. He had five tackles in the trio of regular season games and added seven more in the playoffs.

A veteran of 43 CFL games with Ottawa, B.C. and Winnipeg, Rose has 116 career tackles and 14 interceptions - nine of them as a member of the Blue Bombers.
He first came to Canada in 2016 as a late practice-roster addition in Toronto after NFL stints with the Los Angeles Rams and Indianapolis Colts before being waived and signed by Ottawa.

BLUE BOMBERS AGREE TO TERMS ON ONE-YEAR EXTENSION WITH BAILEY

WINNIPEG, MB., February 2, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with American receiver Rasheed Bailey, who was scheduled to become a free agent next month.

Bailey (6-1, 208; Delaware Valley University; born: July 29, 1993, in Philadelphia, PA) returns to the Blue Bombers for a third season in 2022.

Bailey started all 14 regular season games for the Blue Bombers in 2021, posting career numbers with 52 receptions for 629 yards and five touchdowns.

He added six more catches for 116 yards in the playoffs, including a touchdown in the Western Final and a critical two-point conversion in overtime of the Grey Cup win.

Bailey made his CFL and Blue Bombers debut in 2019, suiting up for five games that season and finishing with 19 receptions for 206 yards with four more receptions for 26 yards in three playoff starts that November.

He first turned pro in 2015, signing as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles after a college career at Delaware Valley, where he finished as the school's all-time leader in receiving yards and second in receiving touchdowns.

Before arriving in Winnipeg, Bailey also had stints with the B.C. Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers, Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers.

BLUE BOMBERS AGREE TO TERMS WITH MERCY MASTON

WINNIPEG, MB., February 4, 2022 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension with American defensive back Mercy Maston, who was scheduled to become a free agent next week.

Maston (5-11, 208; Boise State; born: November 10, 1992, in Bakersfield, CA) returns to the Blue Bombers for a third season after suffering a torn Achilles tendon injury in training camp and spending all of 2021 on the injured list.

Maston joined the Blue Bombers in August of 2019 and dressed for two games before being injured. He returned to the lineup late in the year and started at the dime spot for the regular season finale and then the three playoff games where he racked up 13 tackles, one sack and an interception.

Prior to joining the Blue Bombers, Maston played two seasons with Edmonton (2017-18), recording 57 tackles and two interceptions in 19 games. He was released to pursue NFL opportunities in January of 2019 and signed with the Philadelphia Eagles before returning to Edmonton.

I am worried we will lose Alexander.

If he's injured and can't play for 1/2 a season it changes the equation. If we're in the hunt for another 1st place Grey Cup run I'd think he'd return.

Technically there wouldn't seem to be any reason to not sign him now. With a non football injury he'd be suspended until he could report to the team and participate in practice.

Taking PR a little further we could sign him and place him on the 6 game IR to start the season. Giving him a full salary but protecting the injury time from SMS.
