Kavis really hamstrung the Als with a bunch of expensive contracts with multiple roster bonuses in each.  In trying to get their SMS in shape, they have released Pipkin, Tommy Campbell, and Devier Posey.  All 3 of those guys could help the Bombers.

They also traded Lokombo to the Argos for a conditional 8 the round pick.  Not sure what the condition is, but that's ridiculous.

I wanted Lokombo last year and he'd be a good fit at safety. Maybe his salary was out of line but he can play LB and safety. Big hitter and plays well on ST's.

Didn't know they released Campbell but he's another good talent we could use. We should be on the phone to his agent and see what he's looking for SMS wise.

ace in hole too i a lot of thee guys cut prior to free-agency may want to come here too...and why wouldn't they...Campbell though in getting up there in age would still be serviceable for at least a year...and he has come out and said he would play at minimum if Montreal had asked him...so he gonna be playing with some edge this yr for sure..I'd bring him in, and tell him to bring his buddy Posey...

Campbell was a guy I wanted when he originally hit FA. 6'3 with good speed is almost not fair

Could be a character issue, the Stamps cut him when he was charged for selling drugs out of his mother?s house back home, eventually the charges were dropped so I guess that makes him innocent.

Campbell wasn't cut by the Stamps.  He might have been suspended, I don't recall, but that isn't unusual when there is an investigation ongoing.

Seems like a non-starter. I think he was probably due a bonus soon and the Alouettes opted to let him go instead.

Salary is an issue with Lokombo, he wouldn't come cheap and may be making in the vicinity of $200,000 already.

True but they probably could not afford both Lokombo and Bighill, it's one or the other.

Als also sign former Bomber draft pick Felix Briere, if he keeps trying sooner or later he's going to stick.

Bri?re (5?11?, 179 lbs.) spent time with the Alouettes in 2019 before joining the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The 26-year-old athlete was drafted in the fourth-round (34th total) by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2017 CFL Draft. The Saint-Agathe-des-Monts, QC native was also part of Ottawa REDBLACKS squad. In May 2017, he was invited to the New York Giants rookie camp. He now joins Alouettes General Manager Danny Maciocia, with whom he won the 2014 Vanier Cup with the Universit? de Montr?al Carabins.

I am (or at least was) a huge fan of Posey. If we are going in a different direction than Adams I would love to sign him.

Cambell's age (32) is against him. Posey could be a consideration, but his best season was only 750+ yards, I hope we would be going after a higher producing receiver. I would not re-sign Adams.

Maybe we could trade Toronto a 7th round conditional pick for Lokombo? That we they net themselves 1 conditional round pick. Solid deal right there.

Not sure what Lokombo's salary is, and he wouldn't be here as an MLB, but rather a safety coming downhill... BOOM.   Would have been a nice addition, wait for the trade deadline... during Toronto's firesale Wink

Depends if we're certain we're going to lose Jefferson. I'd say even then we could have room in the SMS, it's a question of whether we want to pay that much for a safety.

Regardless it's not easy or cheap to find a starting Canadian. Staying with an import would be cheaper but we still need that 7th Canadian.

Well he'd certainly give us injury depth / flexibility at both MLB and WIL. He's also give us the opportunity for some different defensive looks.

Toronto isn't likely to trade him away after just getting him.

Every team in the league could use Lokombo, so he's well pursued and paid accordingly as a ratio breaker.  It doesn't matter the specific position, he's versatile enough to play multiple roles.  Als probably could not afford to pay both Muamba at $225,000 and him, god knows what their ratio solutions are, Danny Maciocia has the job of cleaning up Kavis's messy house.

I'm sorry to hear that the Als are still in so much trouble. It's not good for the league. When Reed traded for Manziel, it was a hail mary pass in all senses of the phrase, and when they brought Taman on board--a guy that is known to wheel and deal prospects for today's gain--my first thought unfortunately was "there's nothing left there for Taman to mortgage".

I'm wondering the real true extent of the damage of the franchise. It seems to get worse every month.

Maciocia has a mess to clean up that's for sure, but its not insurmountable.  All the guys he's dumping have multiple bonuses due in the off season.  I think Campbell had a Feb bonus, another one in April/May and then a third for reporting to camp.  That's a crazy way to structure things.  He can likely replace several of these guys in free agency and save some SMS.

Lokombo makes no sense to me though.  He's a starting quality CDN and even if you had to dump his salary, he should have commanded  a better price.

Wasting the draft picks on Manziel probably hurts the worst, but they required Adams for free, so that takes some of the sting out.

Funny how most here were balking at $160k for Loffler a year ago but are giddy at the idea of getting Lokombo for $200k this year... Lokombo's good, but he's a hitter like Loffler, not a ball tracker, ball hawk or hands guy.  Sure, he's usually healthier than Loffler, but they are kind of the same player (with a slight edge to Lokombo).

I thought no one wanted to spend big $$ at FS because "it's the easiest position to hide a NAT in".  I don't think we're a team to take a big $$ FA FS.  Try to draft a guy for ELC who can develop, or sign an under-appreciated (i.e. cheap) FA NAT.

Where the heck is Loffler, anyhow?  Tub med still?

Lokombo is a better overall player with less injury problems than Loffler. He is much more versatile where he could actually start if needed. Loffler was never going to play at WIL or MLB.

OTOH most of agree $200K is not a wise expenditure for a player most likely to play mostly at safety.

It really depends whether we have other areas to upgrade and add a 7th Canadian starter.

At the moment I don't see it at receiver or OL. There might be some opportunity on the DL.

Ackie was mentioned but he wouldn't come cheap either and overall I'd take Lokombo as preferable for the same money. Regardless he's not a free agent. Ackie probably stays where he is as well.

An earlier dream would have been Adeleke for a smaller SMS hit and possible better upside

I like Ackie and he's versatile. He's missed a bunch of games in each of the last 4 seasons including 2019. Anybody remember when he was injured and what that injury was? He only played 10 games last year.

Regardless, I'd want the team to at least speak to his agent and see what his expectations might be.

Just on a side note I wonder how Loffler is recovering from his injury and what his outlook is for 2020?

He's not a free agent but I could see him being released with that hanging over his head and if the Als re-sign Ackie.

He obviously does not have a roster bonus in his deal... I'd pass on bringing Loffler back, even with load management he is an injury concern, just from the way he plays, and if he doesn't play that way, he's not the player you want...  plus he is not getting younger, each injury gets him closer to the end... we went though that with Buck.  No doubting the desire or talent, just writing cheques the body can't cash,,,

I don't want him back after another critical knee injury. I am wondering if his career is over. That would be unfortunate but that's sports and injury. He might be better off saving what's left of both his knees at this point.

If can return I'd expect the Als to re-negotiate his deal based on games played / performance. Too much risk.

Matthews was ?dumped? by the BB last summer.

Burnham re-upped with BC a year ago.

Roosevelt has slowed down and is a bit of an injury risk....no thanks for me.

SJ would be a real nice 1 yr addition to our young receiver group, and he plays boundary side SB. Lawler & Bailey and one the new rookies (ie, Stewart) could learn a ton from him.

2 yrs with 1,000+ yds since his career year and 85 receptions in 2019.

10 receptions in the game vs BB last year.

Several 35 yr old receivers have had 800-1000+ yd seasons and were CFL all-stars at that age.

Imo, SJ could easily join that 35+ club.

It would be cool if we signed SJ. Kind of like Collaros- always wanted them on our team, it just took most of a decade for that to materialize.

Hopefully both have much to give!

I'm ambivalent on SJ.  If cheap enough, sure.

I just wanted to point out that regarding SJ's 2019 stats... take with a grain of salt because you really can't count that "SJ game" (I think vs OTT?) where they basically threw to no one else but SJ the whole game just to amp up his big night.  I remember it well, because no one told me ahead of time it was SJ night and I didn't pick him in fantasy...

IMO, SJ Green likely still has another good year left in him @ boundary SB. I?d love his veteran presence there, but cost vs need certainly comes into play.
