I read somewhere that he was missing from practice, family matter perhaps? But it sounds like he may not be calling the game. I'm a little surprised this news isn't front and center on the forum given his name normally creates multiple pages of opinion(s).

Maybe everyone acknowledges that he's human just like the rest of us....

OK, I almost made it through typing that before realizing I'm way off.  Wink

I have no issue with a guy missing a few days from work because of family matters, life trumps work every time in my book. My point is more about so little talk about the team going into arguably the most important game of the season without their "starting" DC... Anyway you want to slice it replacing your DC is big news and it will certainly will have an impact on the outcome.

Hall has had health problems in the past and I wonder if these have returned.  Great person but I am beginning to wonder  if  it is time  to retire.  Health is more important that football.

Normally that would be true, but not in this case with Hall. I am expecting whoever is calling the D will have them playing much better and have closer coverage on the receivers.

Either way, whether one agrees or disagrees with your thought I think it falls into the category of "having an impact on the outcome".

Hall has done a job good turning the ship round but there is still some weaknesses that other teams exploit in our D. I think we really need a person to look at the D and O from top to down every week to see what our weaknesses are and fix it before the next game.

Can't help thinking this is the beginning of the end for Richie, his absence this week is most likely health related and it doesn't bode well for his future as a DC in the league past the end of this season.  Coaching is a hard and stressful job, it's probably time for him to retire.

Whether Richie Hall is there or not it's we're likely to run the same base systems we've run all year. Having your DC miss a week at a crucial time is probably not a great thing, even if we've been struggling.

Unless, of course, whoever is calling the plays on Saturday is the one advocating these coverage schemes.

Jeff Hamilton tweet

The #Bombers will be without defensive co-ordinator Richie Hall for Saturday's road game against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Hall has been absent all week to deal with a personal matter. The team hasn't stated a timeline for his return.

I genuinely don't know how I feel about this.  Never been a big fan, but who ever calls the plays is clearly our 'backup'.  On a personal 'human' note: I hope all is well for him and his family.

With all the changes to the D this week and no DC, I think they're doomed.

Regardless of your opinion of Hall and his value as a Bomber DC, I would suggest that everyone remembers that he deserves respect and we all should support him during this difficult time.

This will have a big impact on the game.  Hard coming off a couple bad weeks without your leader.  Lets hope they rally and the other coaches figure it out quick.

You need to stop repeating this crap in every thread.

It is not crap, it is fair comment based on how bad of a D Hall has been calling for the last 5 years here. AND, it is my opinion, if you don't like it don't read it, I am allowed to provide my opinion, that goes for you to PJ.

Yes, since everyone is always crowning Younger as heir apparent to Hall, this makes a great preview of our (possible) future.

But isn't Younger our DB coach, and isn't all of our losses on the DBs?  Yikes.

I think it all falls on the leaders -- Bighill, Jefferson, Alexander -- to whip their units into shape and keep the cohesiveness intact.

And our O really needs to step up and put up 30+ as early as possible.

And the completely absent lately STs need to show up too.

Well the miracle we now need to win has been upgraded from one of biblical proportions to one of apocalyptic proportions!   Sorry to hear about Halls personal troubles and I hope it all works out for the best for him.   It's just not getting any easier for our Bombers lately!  I would have to say that we haven't faced adversity such as we are in a long long while.   Yet I cheer the lads on!!

Why are people so bummed about this game?  We cleaned SSK's clock in the last game, and almost beat them in the 1st game.  We've vastly out-scored them in the 2 games.  We now have our star RB back, and our WR/SB lineup has never looked better.  We have all our stars playing on D.

Most people say Hall is a detriment (I disagree) so in that sense we should have a definite advantage with Hall out according to the peanut gallery!

We're going to cream them...

The negativity on here is very high at the moment.  Halls absence can only hurt us.  Will be same D, same schemes and similar play calling.  I'm on fence about this game.  Will be a battle and a good one for sure.

Latest interviews Oct 4 up on the bb site, in MOS's:

re: a missing Hall:

MOS: "I never said Richie won't be here"
when pressed:
MOS: "Planes land in Regina on Saturdays don't they?"

So could be Hall calls this game.  Or could be more MOS smoke & mirrors.

I call BS.  Multiple flights in and out of Regina, including private planes.  Not saying Hall will be on one of them, but to say Regina has one arrival on a Saturday is garbage.

For the record, Hall wasn't in Regina at all for this game.  They said at the beginning it was sort of being "DC'd by committee" with Young, Younger, and some guy who's name I've never heard up in the booth.

Also for the record, Bob on CJOB post-game show said Hall was gone due to an unexpected death in the family.  He also said guys ripping on Hall (i.e. "D had a great game because Hall was absent") need to show some respect.

I won't comment on this further except to say the D played astoundingly well today.  It was much like the '18 WF, where the D kept us in it almost until the end when they couldn't hold any longer.  Our D showed great heart today, kept excelling at their job even though our O kept blowing opportunities, throwing INTs, and going 2&out all night.  I don't think the D ever quit.

At least we know Hall will be proud of his guys when he comes back and sees the film.

Condolences to the Hall family, however, saying that the D played better without Hall is not being disrespectful, just stating a fact. Sucks he had a death in the family but the D did play better without him, they were more aggressive, even Bob and Doug were saying that.

My condolences and sympathies to Coach Hall and family in this difficult time. The D obviously played inspired football trying to win one for their coach who?s going through a difficult time.

Agree fully that people need to show Hall more respect.  His absence had little to do with out turn around on D.  We made a lot of changes this week and that impacts more than anything.

Agree they were likely inspired.

I doubt that they suddenly overhauled the defence because Hall wasn't there. The secondary just played better than they have.

I've never understood why Hecht was starting besides experience. Hes a slow; undersized and old career backup. He made a couple plays vs BC then dipped.

I think that it was mostly a ratio decision and that Derek Jones isn't as good as they thought. The only other option was to start Jake Thomas but they needed to wait until Kongbo was ready so that they could rotate them.
