Winnipeg Blue Bombers Transactions - July 8, 2019

WINNIPEG, MB., July 8, 2019 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has added National defensive back Dondre Wright to the practice roster.

Wright
(5'10, 210, Henderson State, April 7, 1994 in Ajax, ON) spent two seasons at Henderson State, an NCAA Division II school in Arkansas, where in 11 games produced 65 tackles. That performance was enough to get him an invite to the 2017 NFL regional combine. Wright was Montreal's third-round (20th overall) draft choice in 2017. He played 27 games for the Alouettes and had 59 tackles.

He was a late cut out of their training camp this year. Played 18 games for the Als in 2017 and 9 last year.

Nice depth signing

OR maybe the coaching staff isn't that keen on a few of the guys currently on our roster...depth or competition...either way the guy sounds like a nice signing

Only guy I could see him replacing would be Hallett. Or I suppose Rush

Good depth signing. I think its a sign that Briggs misses this week.

Not a bad acquisition for depth.

EDIT: He shows good stats on ST's and 45 DT's in 2018. I know that was on a bad Als team that was always on the field but that shows he's active.

IIRC he may have played some at CB and some at safety. 18 games in 2018 is some decent experience.

Dondre can play. He is quick, solid at 210, excellent tackling, and a national. Excellent pickup.

Perhaps, they are eyeing him for the S position.

This. If Briggs is not good to go, Wright will draw in to the lineup. Otherwise, he will stay in the PR.

That's what I thought, but Hecht performing (and not nicked?) and Jones as backup (unless they're preparing the axe for him)... not sure we need another FS.  However, if he can play legit non-FS DB, that would be nice for the ratio.  But you almost never see NAT DB.

So, ya, maybe just a stand-in for Briggs, who got totally jello-headed in the OTT game.  Really really hate to see that happen to any player, even worse when it's ours.  Hopefully Biggie gets back super ASAP (please by next OTT game at the latest)!

Strange they say he played so many games in MTL... I don't recall his name being said even once on TSN.

In 2017 he played really good ball for Montreal. Last year he was kind of up and down.

Well right now we also have Hallett on the roster and I don't think he's done much. Keep in mind Hecht and Jones contracts are probably expiring after this season.

Is Jones any good?
I saw him on the punt coverage team standout, as he came down he didn't show much enthusiasm  to make a tackle.  Maybe his role was contain?  Never noticed him otherwise

Hecht beat him out for safety, when the job was up for grabs.  Hmmm.  Have then Bombers noticed his lack of capitalizing on opportunity?
