It's always subjective and, arguably, premature but it's fun to look back at the end of season to people's early predictions on end-of-season standings.

Based on what you know now, take a shot and predict how teams will finish in the East and West Divisions.

I'm going to go like this. The West is going to be intense this year and I'm not sure I like Matt Nichols to out duel Bo Levi and Mike Reilly that often. Hope I'm wrong but we'll be in tough. Trevor Harris has a lot of tools in Edmonton and I can see us in a dog fight with them all year. The East is really anyone's guess.

West

Calgary - just can never count them out
Winnipeg - a very well balanced and deep roster
BC - Reilly is great but they have zero defence but are better than Edm and Sask
Edmonton- still no defence and offence has been downgraded significantly
Sask - ZC is terrible and they lost the architect of their D

East

Hamilton
The rest pick any of the rest of these brutal teams out of a hat

Really early since rosters are nowhere near finalized, but I'll bite:

W
WPG
CGY
EDM
BC
SSK

E
HAM
OTT
TOR
MTL

This is the year we do as Walters says and win the W for the easiest path to the GC.  The most important games will be us vs CGY where we must win >50%.

The teams most in flux are the the ones with the biggest sux.  That's EDM, BC, SSK and basically every E team.  The only teams with stability are WPG and CGY... and guess who'll be #1 and #2 in the league...

*update, revising HAM over OTT, I forgot about Steinhauer.

Winnipeg - taking the next step
BC - making moves to be better
Calgary - maybe wishful thinking but I think the reign is over
Edmonton - downward spiral
Sask - train wreck

Hamilton - Not sure about this one. They were bad before Jun Jones. Now he's gone.
Toronto - mediocre steps in rebuilding
Montreal - rebuilding from train wreck
Ottawa - Lost best players - downward spiral

Looking at the east, the west will win a lot of games this year. East will be in the GC with 500 or less record.

Calgary - Won't win as many as last year. BLM is still the difference maker.
BC - Reilly will make a huge difference to a team that just missed last year. The defence will take some time to come together.
Winnipeg - Losing 3 NI all stars will hurt worse than most think. Nichols doesn't get back to his level of play from 2 years ago.
Edmonton - Did a good job of reloading in the off season, but Reilly is a huge loss.
Riders - Worst QB in the west behind a make shift OL without Jones' defence to bail them out.

Hamilton - Bad losing their OC yesterday, but they have a replacement in house. Can't see any other eastern team coming close.
Ottawa - Lost a ton of good players, but are in the right division.
Toronto - Went significantly younger. Will take time to jell.
Montreal - Made some good moves, but not enough to get them out of the basement.

Always an interesting question and the speculation can be fun. I think I'll wait until I start hearing some TC reports from around the CFL.

I am optimistic that we have a pretty solid team and less questions to be resolved going into TC 2019.

Calgary (Because they're Calgary)
Winnipeg (Have strengthened their weaknesses, and could flip spots with Calgary)
BC (Overspending have left them vulnerable in other areas)
Edmonton (Because they're not Saskatchewan)
Saskatchewan (No QB. No OL. No Chris Jones. No Chance)

Hamilton (No one else in the East will be close)
Toronto (Will have a record that would put them last in the west)
Montreal (Shows glimmers of Hope, but still awful)
Ottawa (Awfullest)

Calgary - I think will regress but I've been saying that every year for a decade now so I'll just take them already
Winnipeg - has made me a believer after rounding us out with Chris Matthews. We will have a stellar D with a great set of DBs, a Bighill-led LB corps, and an incredible DL with among the best bookends in the league (+ depth in Roh)
Edmonton - Had a lot of losses and did alright making up for them. They should be average.
BC - Everyone thinking Reilly will carry this entire team of his shoulders is dreaming. The team is gutted other than the throwing game and it's not going to be enough to win more than 7.
Sask - Damaged QB with no OL. Still very good D personnel but now no Chris Jones to tell them what to do.

Hamilton - Default
Whatever for the rest. West crosses over almost certainly.

I would be kind of happy to see Ottawa experience the lows of being a neo-CFL fan. They have been spoiled with playoff games, GC appearances, etc. Time to hurt a bit.

Why are most so down on OTT?  I see them at #2 (or even #1) in the E.  Surely they can't go from perrennial GC-contender to tire-fire in one year?  The coaching staff remained unchanged, right?  I think OTT is a lot like CGY, the secret sauce is the coaching staff and the system.  You can't look back and pin all their success on QB (Burris then Harris), as Harris really isn't that good.  Campbell is good at fielding well-rounded teams, and making good decisions.

I think OTT will do well this year.  I just can't see them sucking as bad as TOR and MTL.

The Bombers need to get first place in the west this season. That is the best odds to make it to the GC. Their mid season swoon last year cost them a chance at that. I also want them beating Calgary IN Calgary in the regular season this year so I can be much more happier leaving McMahon stadium! Wink Cheesy  Then seeing them here again in the Grey Cup in November! GO BLUE! Time to end this ridiculous championship drought! Pretty soon Leafs fans might be laughing/crying at us or at least with us!! Cheesy

OK now that pre-season is done and rosters are mostly settled lets go:

West - not many points will separate 1st from 5th:

BC (Claybrooks and Reilly make a difference)
Calgary (No first place this season)
Sask (will start cold and finish hot)
Winnipeg (will start hot and finish cold)
Edmonton (Maas finally implodes)

East:

Hamilton (Masoli is the real deal)
Montreal (Pipkin and Khari create some magic against all odds)
Toronto (sadly no one cares)
Ottawa (time to pay the piper for losing all those players)

If the Bombers finish 4th or 5th it's time to flush and start another re-build.

I kind of see it this way - very hard to project and IMHO it all depends on injuries to key players throughout the year. IMHO it seems that Calgary always finds a way to replace key players faster than the other teams seem to be able to do - therefore I see them finishing on top regardless of the injury situation throughout the year. BC may be the dark horse this year.

Calgary has always done a great job finding replacements, but I think that this year, they struggle a bit more with that. This will also be the first significant roster change and coordinator that Dickenson has had to deal with. It's much easier to coach when your team is elite than when they are being pushed, and I think that the Bombers can push them and nudge them out of P1 in the West. I think BC is comfortable in P3 (not contending for 2nd or 1st, and not really challenged from below). Edmonton and Saskatchewan will battle for the crossover spot. I have seen some Reilly fear in some posters. Nichols' team finished higher than Reilly's team in each of the last two regular seasons, and I believe that Reilly had a better team in Edmonton (certainly in 2017) than he does in BC.

If Hamilton doesn't finish P1 in the East, something will have gone terribly wrong there. I see Toronto as the best of a bad lot in the rest of the East, and likely hosts a playoff game with a record that will be worse than P5 in the West. They will win the derby between them, Montreal and Ottawa.

1. Winnipeg. Team=complete.
2. Calgary. The losses skid them out of first place contention but Calgary gon' Calgary.
3. BC. Reilly will win them lots of games but they are certainly incomplete.
4. Sask. Defense will win them games but no QB means crossover at best.
5. Edmonton. Rebuild officially begins Nov 2019.

1. Hamilton. By default. Although I expect them to be a legit strong team.
2. Toronto. By default. Despite lack of caring in the GTA, they have some tools to win some games against the other losers in their division.
3. Montreal. Just a fun guess and very bold prediction that they finish second last rather than dead last.
4. Ottawa. Someone said "pay the piper for losing so many players", and I'll add, "pay the piper for getting 3 cup appearances and one championship after a grand total of 5 seasons in existence". Time to LOSE.

The east has been weak for a while but man it is seriously weak this year. You can interchange any of the bottom 3 teams as all will be sub 500 clubs and free spots on the bingo cards of all other cfl teams!!

I'll change my order slightly from before, but only in the E:

W
WPG
CGY
EDM
BC
SSK

E
HAM
TOR
OTT - picking Dom is a bad decision
MTL - morale problems can't be overcome by just a few star players; continued back office troubles and lack of fans kill morale even more; the birds are circling Molson to pick at the carcass

Well a month ago I picked the Bombers and the Cats to meet in Calgary come November....so I'll start there again:

WEST                                   EAST

1) Bombers.                          1) Cats
2) Stamps.                            2) Argos
3) Lions.                               3) RedBlacks
4) Esks.                                4) ALS
5) Riders

The Esks could be a playoff team pending Harris performance as he has tools
