So, Herdman = young Hurl...

I think you guys should actually watch game film, before commenting.  In no way is Herdman like Hurl.  The reason Herdman dropped in the draft was because of his forty time and their was talk of NFL opportunities.

You make it sound as though we don't watch other games. I watch them all. I've read what reviewers had said. I read what they say on Lionbackers and I go to Lions games. Many of my friends are hardcore Lions fans.

NFL opportunities? So what. They have larger rosters and down / distance specialists. In the CFL a MLB is more likely to be on the field for nearly all plays. Speed and ability to cover sideline to sideline on the wider field is critical. Slower 40 is not great  and as mentioned Lions defense ranked 7th in points allowed.

I gave the 2017 stats for Elimimian and 2018 for Herdman. Also compared them to the 2017 stats for Hurl. Which did it appear to you of being closer in comparison?

I thought both Herdman brothers were fairly decent prospects, I was surprised when the Bombers showed no interest in drafting either of them seeing as they are both U of M grads.

It is apparent that Herdmans pedigree and football intelligence are allowing him to play at a level above his measureables.  He is pretty good against the run, and has good instincts in that context.

His slow foot speed though is a major issue, and makes him a liability in passing downs.  Go to lionbackers and search on posts related to Herdman.  There are a number of occurrences where fans point out he gets burned for TDS when matched with a RB running a wheel route.

For this reason, I think he has more use as a situational player than as an every down MLB.  If Stubler is rotating Herdman in tandem with a NI DL, then he will get best use of the asset.

I think the comparison to Hurl is apt, not because they have similar skills, but in the sense that both are bubble NIs.... almost, but not quite good enough to be starters.

Drafted 54th in 2017 by Toronto and still on their roster. Jerome was drafted 60th in 2017 by the Lions.

Looked at Bomber selections in 2017 and most are long gone from the team. Not our best draft class.

It shows that the draft is a non perfect science but also drafting for need and not always BPA kinds of decisions.

They went to SFU. They are from Winnipeg and went to Sturgeon Heights.

You are correct, I initially typed from Wpg. then changed it without thinking it through.

The rap, if I recall, on the Herdman's were they were smart but slow.  And you can't teach speed....  Junior Luke was faster...

That said, smarts and a passport can get you a starting gig.  Or a passport and compete level.

Lions run defense was 7th worst and only 18 yards less than Montreal at 8th. In fact they were 7th worst in many categories for run defense.

You're the one that said Lions run defense improved when he played. Solly didn't play for most of the season and Herdman played 14 games.

Game 17 against Regina: gave up 199 yards and 35 points
Game 18 against Calgary: gave up 145 yards and 26 points
ESF against Hamilton: gave up 114 yards and 48 points

On what planet is that improved or remotely good run defense or good defense? I think perhaps you should consider the facts / stats a bit more before you start challenging whether we watch games or not.
