Blue Bombers Re-sign Shayne Gauthier

WINNIPEG, MB., January 25, 2019 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has re-signed national linebacker Shayne Gauthier to a two-year deal. Gauthier was a pending free agent next month.

Gauthier has spent the past three seasons with Winnipeg after being selected in the fourth round, 28th overall by Winnipeg in the 2016 CFL Draft. He has appeared in 31 games, making 28 special teams tackles and recording one forced fumble.

Meh. Less than 1 tackle a game. I guess he wasn't expensive.

I think only Fenner and Miller racked up more than one ST a game. There were only 5 players with more than 11 including a couple that one had 1 or 2 more but played more games: Wild and Briggs.

That said 1 or 2 more in 15 or 18 games is still less than 1 ST per game.

So give credit where credit is due to Gauthier. Besides an ST is not the only thing an ST player is required to do. Breaking down blocking wedges and maintaining lane discipline allows other players to make those big plays.

He seems to be well liked by his team mates which doesn't hurt.

Gauthier was out with injuries for a chunk of last season. But he is a violent and dangerous player on ST and I'm glad he is back with us.

Obviously you havent watched the kickoff team this year. Gaithier was meh but this year he stepped out.

Over 1 ST a game isn't exactly common, I believe. But this year he was among tops in the league in the category up until injuries.

If he was expensive then yeah, meh. But I don't see him making too much

Ya, he's probably cheap like borscht and a very solid STer for us, especially if his flirt with injury was just a one-time thing.  When many of our ST core was out simultaneously (3? 4?), our ST suckage really started to show.  Can't take these NAT STers for granted.

Good signing.  Keep 'em coming!

I'm looking forward to the day one of these Natl. LB/ST types that O'Shea loves matriculates into a starter, eventually one of them has to break through the glass ceiling set for underdogs.
