Mike Sawatzky @sawa14

Agent for #Bombers top pick, OL Drew Desjarlais, confirms his client has a private workout with the #NFLJets today and will probably decide shortly if he will sign with #Bombers. Fred Weinrauch says basics of a deal with Winnipeg have been worked out. #WFP

Hmmmm. Not the best news but still a good chance he's at TC. A deal in hand with possible signing bonus versus?

Honestly, he's very likely to not be a starter for us this year so having him get a year's worth of NFL coaching would be a good thing for us.

I totally agree. With Eli around now, we have no immediate need for Drew unless he potentially can beat out Neuf. If not, I just don't see how we fit everyone on the roster.

Do we still have Gaitor for this season, or is he another guy from the secondary gone?
Also is the plan to have Fenner at WILL?  I think that's where he was last year....

Gaitor is still here and the projected starter at SAM. Fenner is expected to compete for the SAM spot.

Santos-Knox was the WILL last year.

Thanks, I knew Fenner was at one of the LB spots. Wasn't Gaitor in the secondary all year?  I don't remember him at LB

Nevermind, I just read the positional thread and saw this as being discussed there.

Rhetorical comment. Bombers expect to have a DI spot for a returner. That's a bit misleading since that could still be a DB that is a returner. Normally that's fallen more to a DB than a receiver as a DI in Winnipeg.

OTOH, this year we've signed some receivers that seem to fit the role as DI candidates. The flip side of that is that we signed and / or drafted many more Canadian DB's that may eliminate a DB as a DI choice this season.

Something to watch who is doing what in TC.

Sounds right. Possible Fenner is still a starter despite Ed Tait, in which case Humes is a likely DI

Hmmm I'm not sure. I think a designated returner is a must this year. Have fresh legs returning kicks. Not sure about Fenner, only because we normally carried a DI at LB. Of course it all depends how the Wil spot shakes out.

Medlock is awesome but this is the nuisance of carrying an American kicker (the DI spot)

Nelson or whitehead would be the designated returner in this situation.

BOMBERS ADD TWO 2019 DRAFT SELECTIONS

WINNIPEG, MB., May 15, 2019 -  The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed the two of their 2019 CFL Draft selections - offensive lineman Drew Desjarlais and receiver Malik Richards.

Desjarlais (6-2, 307, Windsor, April 24, 1997 in Belle River, ON) was selected fourth overall. He spent four seasons at Windsor, playing and starting 27 games over that time at both right and left guard.  He played for the West Team in the U SPORTS East-West Bowl last season and was named an OUA second-team all-star.

Richards (6-1, 195, Mount Allison University, in Brampton, ON) was selected 43rd overall. He appeared in 24 games over four seasons with the Mounties. In 2018, Richards caught 48 passes for 531 yards and three touchdowns, adding 18 rushes for 195 yards and two touchdowns on his way to being named an AUS all-star. Richards also played for the East Team in the 2018 U SPORTS East-West Bowl.

The #Bombers get busy with signings before the opening of rookie camp today

Darrin Bauming, TSN.   @DarrinBauming
As I reported on Monday, the #Bombers have added quarterback @JohnnyMac_18. They've also added undrafted USask DB Payton Hall, a few other NCAA Internationals, and four Global players in G.Ortiz, M.Reyes, and S.Perez (Mexico), and T.Hansen (Germany).

Ted Wyman   @Ted_Wyman
Here is #Bombers rookie camp roster. 54 players, five QB's, 11 receivers, 15 defensive backs. Receiver and DB the two most competitive spots right now. #CFL
