With Craig Roh and Jackson Jeffcoat injured, Bombers have brought back defensive end Alex McCalister, who was a late cut after a very good training camp with Bombers.

BLUE BOMBERS SIGN DEFENSIVE END MCCALISTER

WINNIPEG, MB., August 20, 2019 -   The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed American defensive end Alex McCalister.

McCalister (6'6, 240, Florida, October 17, 1993 in Fort Stewart, GA.) was with the team throughout 2019 training camp. He played three seasons for the Florida Gators, tallying 52 total tackles, 18.5 tackles for a loss, 12.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 27 games. McCalister was selected in the 7th round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles and spent time on the Eagles practice squad during the 2017 season. He also spent time with the Washington Redskins.

Guard Cody Speller and DE Craig Roh are out for the #Bombers this week. DB Mercy Maston and WR Drew Wolitarsky are in question. Rookie DE Jonathan Kongbo set to make his first career start against the most protected QB/OL in the league.

Pre/half/postgame Friday 6pm on TSN 1290

Ted Wyman   @Ted_Wyman
Here's #Bombers depth chart for Friday game against #Esks in Edmonton. Injured DE Craig Roh replaced in lineup by recently signed Alex McCalister. Also in are DBs Dexter Janke and Marcus Rios. DB Mercy Maston likely a game-time decision. Expect Andrew Harris to play. #CFL

Guard Cody Speller also out of lineup for #Bombers after being late scratch last week. Rookie Drew Desjarlais starts against fearsome #Esks D-line, including great Almondo Sewell. Rookie Jonathan Kongbo starts at defensive end,  as Bombers face one of league's top O-lines. #CFL

Worth noting that Craig Roh and Cody Speller have both been placed on one-game injured list, not 6, which bodes well for a quick return. Both out Friday vs Edmonton though. #Bombers #CFL

So, 2 QB's only.  4 guys off the roster, 3 guys on...  with 0 QB's on the PR, not much choice.

Odd that EDM, who have 2 QB's on their PR, choose to only dress 2 QBs.

Same as BC. In theory it saves a game day pay check against the SMS. Even if that is an ELC it's more than a PR check.

What happens when Jeffcoat come back because McCalister looked good today for his first game as did Kongbo and Hansen?

Any idea when Adams comes back and who comes out?

Jeffcoat will start. If McAlister keeps playing well it's Roh who might be out of a job.

Roh will be given the edge over McAllister. That being said, I'm sure the IR will be involved and I doubt we lose any linemen

I believe Adams can come back for the Sept 21st game against the Als. We'll see if he's close if he's practicing during the week leading up to the Banjo Bowl. (There a bye week after that game).

I would take Lawler out. I didn't really notice him tonight. He had 1 ball thrown at him and no catches.

Roster changes this week are going to be interesting. How we choose to deal with the ratio change at RB if we decide to go that route. I've liked Augustine in the small sample size but depth is an issue as well.

Those that go to practice will have to see if Santiago is getting most 1st reps or not.

Either way that's going to create some domino effects.

We might see whether or not Speller or Roh are getting many reps in practice to indicate them returning.

If we find / trade for a new QB there isn't an actual roster deletion from the game day roster. He'd just be an add back since Nichols was pushed to 6 game IR.

Practice is going to see some stiffer competition  / evaluation deciding on the best combinations.

I'll predict Santiago for Greg Jones.

I'm thinking more likely to move K. Jones to PR as the less valuable player.

As I've continued to say that gets Santiago on the roster as a DI. It doesn't directly get him starting at RB.

we can start him at RB if we run out the same starters as last week...DE and SAFETY...2 Receivers and 3 O-lineman....thats 7...so he and Augustine can sub in freely...if Johhny is in we could swap out Woli or Demski for Grant too if we want..as long as we have 5 nationals on field at any time on offence meeting our pre-game designation
