WINNIPEG, MB., July 17, 2018 - The Winnipeg Blue Bombers today announce the club has signed National defensive back Abu Conteh to the practice roster.

Conteh (6'1, 202, Grambling State University, October 2, 1995 in Sierra Leone) was drafted in the third round of the 2017 CFL Draft by the Blue Bombers. In 2017, he played two games for the Blue Bombers. Conteh spent his final two collegiate seasons with the Grambling State University Tigers. In his senior season, Conteh made nine total tackles.

We need ST players and his addition seems logical. We saw enough in him to draft him in 2017.

I thought he looked pretty decent in camp too. He was no Derek Jones, and that's more or less why he was cut, but he was not far behind.

Yup! Special teamer,for sure.
Did anyone see 3rd string QB Bennett, on one of the punt coverage teams.?  Or maybe I was just dreaming?

If I remember right, he was the holder on a missed FG attempt and took down the returner after everyone else missed.

CORRECTION: I don't see a missed FG return or a Bennett tackle anywhere in the game stats. Couldve been punt cover, as you say.

Bennett did come up with a big special teams tackle. I had to look it up to make sure it was him while I was watching.

Going back to his last stint with the Bombers, I've seen Bennett practice special teams.  He is considered one of the best athletes on the team.

There was an article not too long ago about this and Bennett asked to play teams so he could be involved in some way. Kids a gamer.

When I saw 18 make a ST tackle, I actually had to look up the number to make sure.  But yup, he did.

I guess he was on the field on offense, so it is something he can do as a QB.

That's amazing.  I saw it too but shook my head and thought I was hallucinating, or overtired, or both.  Didn't think it could have really been our QB till you guys brought it up.

I love it!!  A QB who can tackle?!?!?

Phew! I had to look twice also.  I missed that article, so was quite shocked and pleased,to see our back up QB, ask to get out there and be one of the guys! What a great attitude!

I was at BC Place and one of the first things that I noticed on the Bombers' first punt was Bryan Bennett lined up as the wide side gunner. Sure enough, he was out there for all 4 punts in the game.

Bennett was involved in 2 tackles but was not awarded a STT.

On play 66 - Rempel tripped Rainey and Bennett covered Rainey as he was falling to the ground. In a situation like this, the first player involved in the tackle (Rempel) is awarded the tackle.

On play 132 - Rainey did not gain yards on the return and there was a 5-yard no yards penalty against the Bombers. In situations where there is a 5-yard no yards penalty and zero yards gained on the return, the return does not count and no tackle is awarded. If Rainey had gained any yardage on the return, he would have been credited with a return and yardage gained - a STT would have been awarded as well with the penalty applied from the DBS.
