Just read the tweets from Dave Naylor who just attended MLSE brand launch for the Argos, key points:

- Upper deck on east side will be closed to try to create a better football atmosphere. That means capacity will be just under 20K.
- Season tickets are at 4200, up from 3600 last year.
- No more tailgating.
- There will be a ticket price reduction, last year Argos tickets were more expensive than TorontoFC.

Seems like mostly all good news.  I heard a while back that the Bombers were considering closing off some seats to create a better atmosphere, but not sure where that's at.

Curious why they ended the tailgating...was no one showing up?

Good to see season ticket sales up, but 4200 is still pretty sad.

Getting rid of the tailgating seems odd but the rest of the changes make sense.

As for blocking off seats at IGF, I would suggest in the south endzone. Sat in those seats once and it was pretty hard to watch the game unless play was at the 15 yard line. You sit too low to see out any farther. Maybe the northmost and southmost sections in the upperdeck as well. Those sections seem to be pretty empty already.

During first year at BMO in 2016, the @TorontoArgos campaign was all about tailgating. There will be no tailgating at Argos games in 2018. Costs associated were not worth benefits, according to new Argos prez Bill Manning. #CFL #Argos

It's my understanding those are the seats they were considering.  But that was probably over a year ago so no idea where that's at...

Strange that they would eliminate tailgating, TSN sure seemed to push the narrative that tailgating would be a big bonus to luring the young and hip to Argos games at BMO.

guess that just wasn't true...as noted above if it is costing you $30,000 per game (not the real number) and you are only seeing a corresponding benefit of  $10,000 per game averaged out I guess that decision isn't strange at all...

not everyone loves tailgating either...they tried and it didn't seem to work so I guess they eliminate it and try something else...This Toronto problem is not a quick fix.

Although the question is; did it not work or did it?  They seen an increase of 600 season ticket holders so is that because of the tailgating? By doing it another year is it possible they see more growth and are they perhaps being slightly short-sighted by removing the capabilities too soon?

In the end it's not really about tailgating but rather where the Argos are in the pecking order for the entertainment dollar in Toronto, Leafs, Jays, Raptors, Toronto Fc are all way above the Argos, add to that generations of fans that have turned their back on the CFL because of the notion of it being an inferior product and being fed the idea that the NFL would one day come to Toronto.

This got a vigorous debate last season on the forum, but less seats = more demand for the seats that are available.

I think it would be brilliant if the BB cut off the outside section at the four corners of the upper bowl (or at least the back half of those sections).

North end zone is the rum hut, college, party hardy, fun zone.

Why not make the South end zone ultra kid/family friendly? I got all kinds of great ideas (is anyone listening! They're great ideas dammit!):

- Put in a little play structure, kids face painting or kids bb tattoos.
- Sell the tickets (include "kids only" tickets) for dirt cheap at co-op or Safeway.
- Have the mascots come high five the kids a few times a game.
- Let minor sports team sell tickets as fundraisers.

The Moose "give" 50 tickets to local charities if you want to pay $250 to set up a booth promoting their organization. Charities tend to give these to staff or people who can't afford them, or sell them to recoup the costs.

There are a lot of creative ways to fill up the less desirable seats.

Great idea.

Only problem i can see is these ideas will cost more then what will be made.

I understand what your getting at. But im not going to a game and all the hassle for my kid to want to play on a play structure.

Im not against a fun zone in anyway. But im against anything to take their minds off the game and why we are there.

Maybe im old school but...  the smell of peanuts n popcorn, pizza and burgers, sticky floors and beer, loud excited people all cheering for our team was something i grew up with and made me get hooked.

ideas to sell more seats (Wpg, TO, where ever)

discount the end zone seats and sell them Safeway like they used to

that will bring the families back

make student discount better and for good seats

bring back the Gov't employee discount for all games

make partnerships with private enterprise to discount / bundle tickets

continue with the family packs that include food and drinks

allow food and drinks to be brought in so that poor people can actually afford to come

Great examples of why freedom of speech will be the death of democracy!  Open. Your mouth and remove any doubt how stupid you really are! Geez.

The team is hopelessly. Millions of dollars in debt, and ideas are, flowing into  lessen money the club can make! brilliant

How about letting people in free and pass the hat. no wait, have a bake sale

All this is gone when they built it where it is.

Same as us.

They built something that was handcuffed and not sure was the best idea.

None of the ideas PJ mentioned have anything to with the location of the stadium or where it was built.  They could do all of them if they thought it made business sense.  In fact some have been done.  They offer discounted tickets to my work ( not a huge discount but a few bucks off the price).  Everything PJ suggested was pricing or revenue  related nothing at all with the stadium design or location.

I think that may be why Mitch Marner attends Argo games and they always make sure pics of him at the game are on Twitter.

Good start, now he needs to drag Austin Matthews along, and maybe invite Demar Derozan to bring Drake...  or drop off a bunch of free tickets at Much Music...

Instead of closing off seats, reconfigure them to a dance party pit...  or a student section and give away 3000 tickets each game to kids and teachers, and take a huge "charitable donation"...

Or they could donate tickets to the local youth football programs and make these available to people who are obviously interested in the game at the grass roots level. These folks are the future CFL football fans, obviously love the sport, so get them in the seats. Having tons of vacant seats speaks glowingly of the obvious disconnect the Argos have with their community.

With the Leafs, Jays, Raptors, Toronto FC, and 4 NFL teams less than 5 hours away, the Argos are always going to be a tough sell.

They could always change the name of the team to the Leafs, Jays, Raptors, or Toronto FC. That might sell more tickets.  Wink

Not even close.  Steve Anthony, Erica Ehm, Sookyin Lee, Bradford How, Ed the Sock, Rick Campanelli, etc.... ALL GONE.

Much Music now is pretty much 1/3 music videos, 1/3 cartoons like Simpsons, South Park, etc., and 1/3 old movies from the 80s and 90s.

Going even farther back... who remembers this VJ??

Not sure what this has to do with football... ah, he was from Toronto, so there's the Argos connection!  Even better: "In 1991, Gallagher was the in-stadium host of Toronto Argonauts football games at the SkyDome; he worked with a sidekick named Luc Casimiri".  Not sure I'd want to listen to him MC a game  Undecided

At the very least, a pic of Gallagher will definitely make you think "I had completely forgotten about that guy!"
(Sad to say, he died extremely young, not too surprising given his John Candy-esque stature.)
