"There's always next year."

Quote
Jones merits serious consideration for CFL coach-of-the-year honours. (No, he doesn't)

Who?s better than the Roughriders?

The Calgary Stampeders (proud owners of a 12-1-1 record) are a mortal lock to finish first overall in the nine-team league. Even so, they were held without a touchdown in their most-recent meeting with Saskatchewan - a 15-9 Stampeders victory Sept. 24 at Mosaic Stadium. (Is that a moral victory for the Riders?)

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (10-4-0) are seeded second, but they barely won the season series with Saskatchewan. (Uh, did Vanstone miss the Banjo Bowl?)

For a guy who usually seems pretty level-headed in his articles, he clearly dove into the Kool-Aid before putting together this terribly biased column.

I'm struggling to muster any outrage over this. Our season series was close. We won the point differential over the three games by nine. We traded beatings in September,  and it went to ot in week 2.

3 Candidates make coach-of-the year finalists....

Do any in the East deserve it so far?  No.
Wally with the BC Lions about to miss the playoffs?  No.
Jason Maas with his 6 game losing streak? No.

That leaves Dickenson, O'Shea, and Jones.  Can't understand what's so homer about that.  Takes over a 3 win team...brings it to 5 in first year...and most likely 10 in the 2nd.  5-13 to 10-8 gets a coach of the year candidate easy...and deservedly.

Title of the article was "Jones belongs in coach-of-the-year conversation".  And he's right.

And after he wrote "Who's better than the Riders"....he mentioned Calgary and Winnipeg.  And they are.  But he was also right in that it is not like they are upteen times better based on their games.

Why so butt-hurt?

I'd say if the Ti-Cats get a few more wins and into the play-offs then that Jones should get a nomination. Should be him, Oshea and Dickenson

Any guy who can turn around that 0-8 team and where they were headed deserves mention

The accusations are misplaced. Vanstone's one of the good ones. And he's a big Jets fan too.

They changed the process so there are now only 2 finalists. One from the West and one from East.

I didn't know that... I guess Trestman and Dickenson would be the contenders to date....

Barring a total collapse Dickenson has it. Whoever the powers that be think is the third to 9th is kinda irrelevant really IMO.

But Trappers point is valid Jones would be somewhere in the 3-5 spot on any coach rankings; Jones, Trestman, and June all could be 3-5 depending how you rate them. Oshea isn't even a lock for 2nd best depending what happens the rest of the season.

He showed up for the first time in ages to call someone butthurt for posting an article and having an opinion on it. Indeed, things never change. Undecided

I too fail to see the outrage from the article. Pretty much nailed things down. Put away the blue koolaid
and look at things objectively instead of through hate

Nobody is outraged. The Riders are a .500 road team and still under .500 vs. the division. I simply don't agree with Vanstone in that Jones "merits serious consideration" for COTY.

Typical dumb and clueless response from you, though.

Actually it is true I showed up the first time in ages...but it was just to see what is happening.  Yours was the first post.  "he clearly dove into the Kool-Aid before putting together this terribly biased column." sure sounds like someone being butt-hurt....

trapper where the heck have you been all season?

Keeping busy with other things.  Daughter just got engaged on the weekend.  So that's good.  Just got back from Toronto...was at the Rider/Argo game...had fun...it was like a home game...just with lots less people. Flew home with the team (coincidence) and that was fun too.

Been going to my weekly meeting at Forums Anonymous....guess I fell off the wagon....gonna see if there is a meeting today Wink

You uys have been having a good season....keep enjoying it!
